Anybody want to take the pushup challenge with me?

I hate pushups just about as much as the rest of you (based on that other thread about pushups, that's a lot of you). Pushups have always been super hard for me, as I have very little upper body strength.

Something that is getting me over my hatred of pushups, though, is a goal I've set for myself to do 45 at one time by the end of 2007. Right now, I can only do about 20 at once, bent-legged. So, I've put together this little pushup training schedule to build me up. On the days I do GS:Ch/Tri, I'm doing as many of the drop sets as I can, really pushing myself. 2-3 other times during the week, I then do 2 sets of pushups before my regular workout. I do as many as I can, then rest, then do as many as I can again, then go on to whatever workout I've picked for the night. My goal is to do 1-2 reps more than the last time every time I do them, and after only 2 weeks, I'm really starting to feel a difference.

Having the goal pushes me to do them, and with a plan in place it's a lot more tolerable, especially since I'm only devoting a couple minutes to pushups a few times a week.

So, anyone else want to take the pushup challenge?

Yeah, I can go for a push up challenge. I am testing for my first degree black belt on April 20 of this year. I have to be able to do 50 straight leg push up.

I did 35 for my black belt testing last April. My problem seems to be I do quite a bit of upper body work and when I am sore it is harder to do all the push ups I need to do at once. During my karate classes many times our instructor has us do 50, and most of the time they just kill me.

Do you notice when doing push-ups there is a cardio factor in them? When I do LIC, the push ups with one hand on the step bench, I am really winded by the time I get done with two sets.

I have been telling myself that I really need to do push ups everyday like you said before my regular workout for I really need the endurance to be able to do the 50 for the testing. The thing is I have to do them in front of about 100 people by myself and they count them as I do them. No cheating in this one.

So, I will start my morning workout with 50 push ups. Then, I will try to do another 50 before my weight training at night. I will see how that will work. I want to be able to do 50 AWESOME looking push ups for my testing!

No way, but I wish you the best on your goal. By the way, I did a GS rotation for about 6 weeks last year and by the end of it I was able to to the first two sets of push-ups of C/T on my toes, something I would've never thought possible because I was never able to do at least one push-up on my toes. At the beginning I couldn't even do all the drop sets on my knees and by the end of it I was doing push-ups on my toes for the first time in my life. Of course I can't guarantee you the same results but you will definitely see improvements with GS:C/T.
