Any "weight lifters" done Cathe's weight workouts?

Cathlete
I have always liked keeping my weight lifting and cardio separate and was wondering if there is anyone out there who is an intermediate to experienced weight lifter who has tried the weight portions of Cathe's workouts? If so, what do you think of them?

I am hesitant to go in that direction because years ago, when I saw some other instructors DVD's that involved resistance training, it was a joke. These skinny, no-muscle chickees lifting 3-5 lbs weights...too funny! Sort of soured me on taking any resistance training in a DVD seriously.

RE: Any

Is this a serious question? Have you seen the pictures of Cathe? :) :) Recommendations: Muscle Endurance. Power Hour. Gym Styles. No wimps allowed. Expect to have difficulty with routine tasks for days afterwards. :)

Seriously, I worked out in a gym for years before discovering Cathe. Did I have good results? Certainly. But I have had MUCH better results with Cathe, and that's for a multitude of reasons. First, Cathe is loads of fun, the workout is fun and well-designed, you feel like you have some workout buddies in the room with you. You get the kind of form pointers that it takes years in the gym to develop. You don't have to deal with other people ALWAYS on the equipment you want (when they're not even working out! this used to SO piss me off!). You can work out when it's convenient for you. Personally it is more motivating for me to work out with Cathe & co. than it is to go into the gym and hope my motivation level sustains itself through the freshly showered women trying to pick up men, the self-lovers kissing the mirror, and the hygienically challenged who INVARIABLY get on the treadmill next to me. :7

Marie,

Ok, you convinced me to give it a shot. And yes, I have seen the pics of Cathe, but I have also seen fitness instructors in DVD's who are also in amazing shape, lifting 305 lb weights and doing very basic, boring exercise. Truth is, I think they do this becasue if the general public saw the exercises and weights that these instructors REALLY use on a regular basis, they would run the other way! They do what sells!

good to know Cathe is not like that!

RE: Any

Cass,

Go check out the video clips on the site if you haven't already! Cathe's definately not a part of the pink-dumbbell crew!

Cathe's Advanced Weight Training Workouts

Cass:

I just read in your other thread that the only DVDs you have so far are Cardio Hits, Low Max, and Low Impact Step. Now I understand why you asked this question. These are all cardio workouts with the exception of Total Body Sculpting that is on the Low Impact Step DVD. You should know that Total Body Sculpting was designed to be sold through Target to the general public. It is not representative of Cathe’s advanced workouts. She uses 3-pound dumbbells in that workout because she is reaching out to beginners. Please watch video clips of the Slow and Heavy Series, Pyramid Upper Body, Pyramid Lower Body, and the Gym Style workouts. Then report back to us! ;) I worked with a personal trainer last year and still have a club membership that I am not using at the moment. Cathe’s workouts are just as effective and challenging. If you can only afford one of Cathe’s weight training DVDs, I recommend the Pyramids. You will want the others eventually.

By the way, I did the Low Impact Step + Total Body Sculpting cardio and weight circuit premix for the first time this week and really enjoyed it. It is a really fun workout, and it is just the right intensity for weeks like this when I need a lighter workout.

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Cathe's Advanced Weight Training Workouts

My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Cathe's weight workouts are by far the best out there -- they are tougher than anything else I have tried, and yet they are also the only strength workouts that I do that I don't injure myself.

Am in my fifties so I have to watch this last. At first I couldn't believe a tougher workout would be the ones that didn't injure me -- and I didn't understand it, but I think it's Cathe's constant talk of form that does it -- she just doesn't let you do the exercise incorrectly -- and you can't always "see" the correctness of the exercise from a video -- many I was doing wrong.

I recommend her strength workouts to all my friends. No whims here -- and yet no injuries for me, either.:)

RE: Cathe's Advanced Weight Training Workouts

I am glad to hear you are convinced. Wait until you see how easy it is to spend all of your spare cash here! :)

I would personally start with the Gym Styles. I like the Pyramids but to me they were exactly what I was already doing in the gym, whereas the GS have many innovative exercises. They do require the standard equipment plus an exercise band which you can purchase at a retailer or at fwonline.com (Fitness wholesaler, hope the address is correct.)

Good luck!

Wow! All you guys are "pumped" about Cathe's weight workouts, huh? (sorry for the pathetically bad pun!).

OK, I will check them out on the site and decide which ones to satrt with. God, I wish I were RICH!!!!!! I would just buy them all!

RE: Cathe's Advanced Weight Training Workouts

I know what you mean. I'm trying to get them all, too. It is expensive, but I think Cathe workouts are the best.:)

RE: Cathe's Advanced Weight Training Workouts

Nothing comes close to Cathe. I used to use other strength workouts but I never felt like I was worn out. With Cathe, I feel like I have gone as far as I can. Cathe is the best.

RE: Any

Hmmm, I guess I consider myself an experienced weight lifter since I've been doing it for years. The only weight lifting workouts I do are Cathe's and have gotten phenomenal results. You can't go wrong with her Gym Style and Slow & Heavy series.

Debbie,

Ok, you are definitely someone whose opinion I want to hear! Love your arms. I am not there yet, but striving for it. Do you do each body part once or twice a week?

Can you also give me a basic idea of your general weekly workout program? I would love to see what the structure looks like.

thanks so much!!
