Any downside to doing a rotation for more than 4 weeks?

Happy Friday everyone!

I usually follow Cathe's rotations with some tweeks here and there depending on what DVD's I have. I'm at the end of a 4 week rotation with the Intensity Series and not only do I love it, I am getting great results. I finally figured out that I get better results with a little less cardio and an extra day of strength training and I want to continue that for another 3-4 weeks increasing the weight I've been using.

Is that too long to be on one rotation or does it matter as long as I am getting results and not getting bored?

Thanks, Melissa

The only downside you run into is that your body may adapt to the stresses that you're placing on it and then you would get less return (results). However, I just read a thread on Ask Cathe where she indicated it's fine to stick with a rotation longer than 4 weeks as long as you are still getting results. I think as long as you are increasing your weights, you should be fine!

Good luck!

Hey, I've been doing the same routine, plus or minus some small changes, for years.

I know there are a lot of different opinions on this, but I subscribe to Arnold's, who says there's no need to change your routine unless you're bored with it.

If you are still getting results, and are not bored by it, then by all means continue.
The downside would be that, even though you may still be getting some results, you might have better results by changing.

I do think it's easier for the body to adapt to cardio than weight workouts, because you can always increase the weight you use to make the workout still chanllenging.

You might want to take a recovery week, doing less intense workouts, and maybe focusing on core or yoga or balance, then come back to the rotation, to keep it 'fresh' longer.

Or, take the basic set-up of the rotation, and plug in different workouts, or switch things around a bit using the same workouts, but in a different sequence.

I appreciate the input. It's funny you should suggest taking a recovery week because I am on vacation this coming week and was contemplating taking the week off from working out as well. Just not sure I can do it without having withdrawals, but I think I might, then come back to the same rotation and start the increase in weights.

Thanks everyone!

Have a great 4th of July!

I was going to say boredom but that has been answered. If you are happy, getting results and happy :D, stick with it until you want a change. I change everything all the time because it suits my personality to do it that way. You have to suit your own style and love your workout regimen. Or like it a lot. Or find it doable. That goes for how much weight you use too. I don't even try to go pound for pound with Cathe on some of my body parts, tris and shoulders, chest with flies, because I like my body parts attatched! I am an ecto and tearing off a limb by going too heavy is a messy business and they don't always reattach anyway. ;)

Be happy and workout to suit yourself!
