Another shopping question: pantyhose

I hate the confined feeling of pantyhose, so I usually wear pants. However, I recently gave in and bought 2 winter skirts and a pair of knee high boots. So what do I wear with them? If the skirt is long enough to cover the top of the boots, can I just wear knee highs? I found some "no-waist" pantyhose, but they're control top. I know I'm really sensitive, but control top pantyhose make me miserable, and even give me a stomach ache. Does anyone know of any really comfy pantyhose? Maybe some nice, warm tights would be good, but, no kidding, an elastic waistband can actually ruin my day. :-(

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I use l'eggs and no nonsense and I know that these both have elastic issues. I have tried the thigh highs but have decided that unless one's legs have NO fat AT ALL, whatever one has will hang over the elastic on those.

In the winter, wear tights for sure!

Oh you hate the around the waist deal. So skip it altogether and don't wear anything. Just socks inside the boots. That works, especially if you have nice legs, which it looks like you do!:)

I've tried thigh highs and they just don't stay up x( They are one size fits all, but they don't fit me. And while my legs are thin they are not super skinny either. I bought some footless tights that don't have much of an elastic waist and I don't remember where the heck I got them. If I do I'll post it for ya ;)

I hate, hate with a passion control top panty hose and yet this country manufactures so much of it, why?!?!?!?!?!?! It is totally heinous and I do not understand how anyone can bear to wear it and be squeezed in all the time.

I am like you Nancy. I love skirts and boots in Winter but the thought of panty hose sends me right to my denims every time. I get L'Eggs queen size (need large size for the leg length since I am tall) and I always get the non-control top ones. They can be bought at local supermarkets, which makes it easy, and they are quite comfortable. When I wear them I fold down the top so that the elastic is around the hips and not the wait and they stay put, no fall downs at all. So much more comfy...

I am sure a good department store would have loads of really good, top quality designer panty hose without the dreaded control top. Have you looked?

I also think those self-hold up, elastic top stockings are a great idea. Nothing around the stomach at all and no need for itchy garter belt either.

But what I am thinking of doing this Winter, and is feasible if the skirt length goes beyond the knee, is wearing extra long black socks that reach thigh high. Just as soon as I find some that is.....

Good luck with the panty hose search!

Clare,

I found some thigh high socks/tights at American Apparel over the weekend. They were expensive (I had to pay in Eurosx( ) but they seem to be high quality.

I've been complaining about pantyhose for YEARS!

I thought I was the only woman who couldn't stand 'em!

Glad to know I'm not alone!

I went to an afternoon wedding on saturday. I wore a skirt/top outfit. The skirt came just below the knee. I wore boots with it. I did NOT wear pantyhose. YAY!:)

It's nice knowing I'm not alone! Maybe one of these days they'll make pantyhose that have no waistband AND no control top and they'll fly out of the store and then all pantyhose will be like that forever. ;) :D

I despise panty hose. The only time I'll wear them is for a job interview. Otherwise it's tights all the way for me. I even use them under my pants in place of long underwear in the winter.

How about thigh-high nylons, and a sexy garter belt to hold them up (That would take care of the problem of the thigh-highs slipping down, and no one has to know you are wearing the garter belt but you--unless you want them to!).

>Laura, don't tights have an elastic waistband too? What's the
>difference?

Not really--not like pantyhose. When I think of the waistband on pantyhose I think of an actual strip of elastic attached to the top. Tights have elastic woven into the fabric, not nearly as restrictive or uncomfortable.

Another vote here for tights. I love them. They do have elastic waist-bands, but they are a lot more comfortable, plus, I hate nylon. I'm SO glad tights are in right now.
