Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone else ?

RE: Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone els...

I really liked her Advanced Step Challenge, but it was so high impact that I ended up with the worst Plantar Fasciitis flare up I have ever had. There were too many high impact moves to modify, so I traded it away.

I also like (and have no trouble with, impact-wise) her kickbox workout. I liked All Pump, but it was too short for me. I have yet to try APX, though.

I like her as an instructor and I don't see that she is in any way copying Cathe. They are extremely different in my opinion.

I'd definitely give the workouts you have a second chance before you get rid of them.

I haven't tried Amy's weight workouts, but I've tried her A-team Bootcamp workout and her Hi-Lo Xtreme and Kickbox Xtreme. I liked her Bootcamp workout, and actually prefer her way of doing plyos to some of Cathe's (instead of doing air jacks one after the other, she does three dynamic side-to-side steps then an air jack, which gives my body enough notice to actually do them better!). I did think she presented some weight moves that were different 'just to be different,' and were somewhat questionable for safety (like leaning back unsupported while doing a front raise).

The workouts from that first series DO have a lot of whooping in, but I'm glad to see she learned quickly and responded to feedback about it.

I've seen clips of her other weight workouts, and same goes for them. I can't imagine trying a squat with heels on the step platform, holding the bar behind the legs. Seems like an accident waiting to happen, IMO.

I like her hi-lo Xtreme workout: it certainly fills a niche that seems to not have a lot of options (high-intensity, athletic hi-lo).

Her Kickbox workout needed a LOT of modification on my part to get it to work with good, actual kickbox form. I'd still like to see another kickbox workout from her in the future, maybe with some input from someone who is more knowlegeable in martial arts and logical sequencing of moves.

I really like her energy, and I think her being taller (she looks like she's pretty tall, but at least not short like Cathe and crew) means she moves in ways, and at speeds, that suit average-to-tall women better.

I do find her cuing a bit frustrating at times--when she throws a sequence of combo moves at us without any cuing, more like a 'watch this, and pick it up when you can' technique--but it doesn't happen often.

I think if she cleans up some of the cuing, gets some pointers on kickboxing, and maybe some input on safe yet effective weight-training technique, she could definitely give Cathe a run for her money!

I wasn't on the RT but read in her forum that she didn't go. She has a lot going on now with getting out her new series.

Has anyone heard of KAREN VOIGHT? I have a couple of her DVD's...she's not bad...actually, she's pretty good. However, she doesn't get as hardcore or really energetic as Cathe does. And that's what I need...so really...I'm all Cathe!

I went through a brief Karen Voight phase before discovering Cathe. I found her likeable, but not tough enough (which is funny since I think she's usually intermediate level and I'm still intermediate myself). I sold most of my KV workouts, but kept a yoga one that I really like.

RE: Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone els...

I own and enjoy most of Amy's workouts. I actually love AP for a short total body workout. I tried Amy's newest offerings first and then purchased most of her older workouts. Her production quality, premixes, music, woo factor have all gotten better with each production. I can't wait for her next series and I plan on preordering. She is making another step workout (Advanced Step Challenge 2) and I love her step style because it is more complex than Cathe yet has the athletic moves that get my heart rate up. Amy has really gotten better and better in my opnion. I used to do Cathe exclusively b/c when I found her she was head and shoulders above the Firm and what I was finding in the stores. Now, I've discovered a lot of other workouts/instructors I enjoy (although Cathe remains my all time favorite) and I greatly appreciate the up and comers on the market that are now producing workouts geared to the advanced home exerciser. The variety has been great for me as I had started to get bored with doing Cathe all the time. All Pump is one of Amy's first offerings so the quality is not up to par with her latest offerings but I still enjoy the workout. I actually like the "twists" she puts on some of her moves...they are fun and different and safe to me. If I'm ever uncomfortable with a move, I just don't do it or sub another move in, but I have not had to sub for anything Amy has included in her workouts. Angela:7
