Amazon selling dogfighting DVD

I guess that is my point! "The" right thing to do is different for every person. Should a bookseller have to remove books about gay marriage, because people don't approve of it, it is also illegal in most states?

<These are not DVDs and publications that just TALK about <dogfighting, they actually show dogfighting which is against the <law. That makes the producers a party to a criminal activity

And how many movies are out there which glorify the killing of another human being? Isn't killing someone illegal in ALL states?

I totally agree about dog / cock fights being horrible and all appropriate measures should be taken to stop this reprehensible "sport" and anyone involved should be punished to the full extent of the law.

I guess my questions is, why isn't anyone up in arms about the unbelievable brutality and the inhumane way lifestock is treated? But all we hear about is dog fighting.

Leave it to Beavs and Carola to bring up very good and valid points about censorship and the legal cruelty of animals by the meat industry.

I'm just glad to know that there are such smart, classy, and concerned people on this forum. All of you. Once again, there is a debate going on here that makes me stop and review some issues that are anything but comfortable to process.

I don't know what else to say.

I don't know..I mean, I guess I feel like: to whom is animalfighting/promoting animalfighting the 'right' thing. I guess some people think it is okay, but I don't think that it is a really controversial subject(as in, is it right or not?)

I think people are up in arms about the inhumane way livestock are treated. Groups like PETA, etc. do try to get things changed. Just because dogfighting has sort of come center stage right and more people are talking about it, doesn't mean that other causes/issues aren't just as important. I understand that some people feel that this is misplaced attention. For example, why aren't people as upset over child abuse, etc.(I'm not being glib) but just because people are putting their energy one place doesn't diminsh the importance of other issues/causes. You can be someone who works to raise awareness of breast cancer research, walk/run in breast cancer 5K's, gives money for breast cancer research, writes to the government about legislation and urging funding for breast cancer research and that doesn't mean that you don't think leukemia research, etc. is important. It just means that you choose to focus on something else. For me, one has nothing to do with the other. JMO...I'm not trying to offend anyone.

I think many good points from across the spectrum have been made about this issue on this thread, and they have been made forcefully AND respectfully.

I guess, from where I sit, the fact that these DVDs do not simply DEPICT illegal and barbaric acts, they actually SHOW actual illegal and barbaric acts in which live, senseless animals were tortured and/or killed is what draws the line for me. If these DVDs were staged, fictionalized dramatizations in which "no animals were harmed during the production of . . ." I wouldn't have a problem with it. I wouldn't buy it, but I wouldn't lambast the vendor for selling it.

However, I see little difference in filming and selling an actual, live dog/cockfight and filming and selling the actual assault (sexual or battering) of a child or other vulnerable person, or filming and selling the actual rape and/or murder of another person. In fact, I see no difference at all. When you film and sell an illegal act for profit, pandering to some very prurient tastes, you better be prepared for some backlash.

From what I've seen, Amazon is entirely inconsistent in its philosophical approach to what it sells, and that too give me personally ample reason to continue to avoid buying from them.

BTW, as I implied above, I am impressed with the civil manner in which everyone here has contributed her Point-Oh-Twos.

Whew! I made my original comment a few posts up to mean if Amazon were to stop selling the dogfighting DVDs because dogfighting is illegal, they should probably also stop selling the marijuana books because growing marijuana is also illegal, right?

Which is where the trouble begins. Where do you draw the line?

Sorry to start such trouble.

My dilemma is I use Amazon a lot to purchase CDs and books for my music classroom. It kills me to pay $18 bucks for a CD at Borders, when oftentimes I could get it for *much* less through the sellers at the Amazon Marketplace.
