Am I the only person who does not like lifting?

Today I was supposed to do MIS but it doesn't peak my interest. I thought about it and did LIC Total Body Sculpt.

Then I got to thinking does a person have to lift weights in that type of forum? I like circuit type workouts much more. Then I got to thinking some more because I would like to acquire more of Cathe's dvds.(the bodyblast series and the hardcore series) should I stick to what I like and purchase one by one or should I get the bundle?

I guess what has my curiosity peaked is is there any type of workout you just don't like but feel like your betraying your fav instructor for not liking everything they do?

I always hated exercising whether it be lifting or cardio. Then I Sprained my ankle, and I am kind of depressed about it because now I am not physically able to do any cardio right now. So when it heals I will be happy that I can physically get up and exercise again. It is something I always took for granted (that my body would never let me down).

I don't ever feel like I am betraying any instructor. I just do what ever I feel like doing. I have a ton of workouts as do most people on these boards. Your body needs the variety. Each insrtuctor has a different way of working your body. I have every dvd that Cathe has out right now. I also have plenty other workouts by other instructors. Since Cathe has gotten plenty of my DH's hard earned money, no, I don't feel that I betray her by doing other instructor workouts.

You have every right NOT to like everything one certain instructor puts out. Instructors also know that not everyone will like what they put out. ;) ;)

Hi Jenn,

I find that I enjoy exercise much more when I do the workouts I like. If you like circuit workouts, then do 'em!:) There is nothing worse than dreading a workout. I guess that's why I don't have all of Cathe's workouts and don't plan to get all of them. Just watching the clips tells me that some of them would make me dread working out and I really don't want that. I did the Fit TV version of Cathe's Boot Camp a few times and decided it wasn't for me. I probably work out with Cathe more than anyone else but it's the workouts I like and I still throw in other instructors about 2 to 3 times a week. I frmly believe that you gotta do what works for you.

There are plenty of things Cathe does in her workouts that I can't stand. I'm sure she doesn't take it personally - heehee!

How 'bout some more push-ups, Cathe?

Oh, gee, only SIX sets of side leg extensions on the step? (see LowMax, please, blast number 3 or 4, I think it is)

Or my favorite from that infamous Boot Camp rotation (was it August 2005 or 2006?) - why do 200 walking lunges? Because 201 will cripple 'ya!

I'd never even consider thinking that it was 'betraying a favorite instructor' not to like their workouts. After all, THEY are business people providing a product for US, their customers, to buy. They aren't our family and friends who might feel slighted if we refuse something they made just for us, like a batch of cookies or a hand=knit sweater.

There are some instructors who have a smaller offering of workouts, and whom I really like as instructors (Kelley Coffey-Meyers, Kimberley Spreen, Tracey Staehle), and I do want to support them in their efforts, but I would have no hesitation not buying a workout that didn't sound like my type of workout (like Tracey's new step workout) or getting rid of one that I didn't like (like her first step workout).

I agree--I'm sure Cathe doesn't feel betrayed either. Cathe's workouts & rotations are geared toward specific exercise goals, as are other instructors. Mixing & matching them to tailor them to your own likes/needs/wishes/fun factor is a good thing. Whatever it takes to keep you going.

As far a the cardio vs. lifting thing I love seeing the variety of this forum's likes & dislikes. Personally I've always felt cardio was a necessary evil & the lifting was the fun part. That's one reason I do cardio in the morning--if I had to do it after a 9-10 hour day I'd NEVER do it. This way I get it over with & have nothing to dread. Lifting, on the other hand, I do after work b/c I do love it & look forward to it.

Lifting used to be an afterthought for me. I did tons of cardio, and went around on a few weight machines maybe twice a week. I was still overweight after all that (well my diet wasn't stellar, either)

Since discovering Cathe, I absolutely love to lift. I haven't even been using her DVDs (or any at home) for the longest time due to my son's sleeping schedule. I take the principles I have learned and apply them in the gym now. I usually lift before cardio now, and and just love my time doing so. I have cleaned up my eating, and have now (huge credit to lifting) have maintained a 18 lbs less pre PG and am in the best shape of my life. WHOOT for lifting.

Thanks ladies,

I know I shouldn't feel guilty. I just have to do what works for me. Tweak rotations to fit my interests and enjoy it.

Laura I am just the opposite of you, I love a good sweaty cardio workout and often dread weight lifting. But I know it is a necessary evil for strong muscles and to burn more calories at rest.

Jenn, I used to feel the EXACT same way. I loved doing cardio and lifting was an afterthought. Now that I've seen the great results that lifting creates, I can't believe I didn't take it seriously before. I had an instructor once who said that cardio can change your size but lifting can change you shape. At the time, I thought he was talking about getting bigger and bulkier. Now I totally understand what he meant. A few weeks ago, my husband gave a lecture on injury prevention for marathoners (which of course included lifting - the BEST injury prevention out there!!). I looked around the room and I could tell who lifted and who didn't. The ones who didn't lift had that scrawny, sort of withered and thin look. The ones who lifted had that totally lean, young and fit look, even if they weren't young! It was an amazing difference.

I am not a big fan of lifting - but I, too, like circuit workouts. For just weights, my favorite is the Push Pull/ Supersets DVD - just seems to challenge without overwhelming me. For what it is worth...

I'm the opposite; I like lifting, but I don't like circuits. I always feel like I'm rushing around, changing out equipment, etc. I'm afraid that I'm more likely to hurt myself or leave my weights in a bad spot and trip over them. Current favorite weight DVD is Pyramid lower/upper.

But overall, I prefer cardio (step)....something about all that dancing around!
