I don't know how or why after years of not giving a rat's patootie about landscaping and gardening, but I've been bit by the bug, and have turned into a gardening geek!!
My lawn looks awesome (it was a weed-infested mess 2 years ago), the grass is thick and bright green, and I'm like a proud momma because I did it all myself! The landscaping around it is coming along......not done but on it's way.
The problem? My neighbor's awful, dingy, grey, moldy privacy fence, which is even worse because the "back side" faces us. I figure the best solution is to plant either fast-growing vines, or tall shrubs that will cover it up. Obviously, it won't cover it overnight, and I want it to look better NOW.
So, my husband thinks I'm kinda nuts to want to clean and stain our side of our neighbor's fence. I bought this stuff that you wash the wood with, and after a bit of scrubbing it goes back to brown!! Yay! Then I thought I could cover it with clear deck varnish, and it would look a zillion times better. I showed my husband the test spot, and he said he couldn't see a difference .....but then again he didn't notice when I transplanted 2 azaleas!
So, would you go through this effort? I figure it will take me a weekend, and my neighbor doesn't care at all. My husband has kind of thrown up his hands and says "go ahead but you're nuts
", and now I'm wondering if maybe I am a little!! I just want my yard to be pretty, and after all the work I've put into it, that $&!#^* fence sticks out like a sore thumb!
