I'm at my wits end with my allergies. Any time I try to stop taking my allergy medicine I start to get VERY run down, extremely tired and feel congested with sinus pressure. It doesn't matter what time of the year it is either so I can't say its pollen. I finally got an appointment with an allergist to see what I'm actually allergic to which hopefully will tell me something later this week. But...I don't want to be on medication forever. This has been going on for about 4 years now. Has anyone found a natural cure??

If you haven't had one yet, definitely get an allergy test so you can find out exactly what you are allergic too. I learned that I am basically allergic to everything (dust, trees, grass, weeds, cats, etc..). I get allergy shots every 3 weeks to control my allergies. Basically, they inject a little of what I am allergic to into my body and then my immune system fights it and I build up an "immunity" to the allergens. It doesn't completely get rid of the allergies, but I rarely have the problems now that I used to - itchy eyes, head congestion, sneezing, etc... I used to not even be able to cut grass. I never have to take medicine anymore and eventually I will not need the shots either. Good luck! They say this year is one of the WORST for allergies. All of the counts are really high.

Hmmmm....do you feel "sick" with your allergies? I literally feel sick and am sooo tired I don't want to exercise or work...I just want to sleep. The doctor said I can't take my meds until after our visit on friday so I can't get any relief until then. I usually think of allergies as watery, itchy eyes, sneezing, etc. I usually just get sinus pressure and a very sick run down feeling. I can't wait to see what my tests come up with.

When I used to have problems (before the shots), I felt so bad, I wanted to throw myself into traffic! ;) My head would get so congested that it felt like it would explode. My sinuses usually would get messed up as well and anytime those are messed up, my equilibrium is off and I get nausious very easily. I was good for nothing and any medicine I took made me feel that much more "out of it". It finally got to the point where I was getting nose bleeds and my eyes were so blood shot I couldn't wear my contacts. I finally said enough is enough and went to the allergist. I was told that if I didn't treat the allergies, I could end up with asthma because I guess the two are closely linked. If you are feeling nausious a lot, it might be worth looking into possible food allergies as well.

Nettle tea is great for allergies and Dandelion root tea is great for the liver which aids in allergy relief. Living in the high desert is a killer for me, but I just got some recommended herbs at my Co-op. It is made by natural Factors: "Aller-7" formula. It is really working. Good luck. I also find jumping on my mini trampoline for at least 20 minutes a day really helps. If you don't have a trampoline a stability ball will work. The bouncing helps activate the lympatic system.

Gosh, I've had allergies ever since I was old enough to remember....

Without meds, the only non-herbal quick fix I've ever found is a cold pack. When your eyes get itchy and your nose is runny...and it just feels like your whole head is one giant hive, try a cold compress.

Just lay with it over your face for 5-10 minutes. It'll give you relief for about 1/2 an hour or so. Which is better than nothing when you can't take anything.

I feel your pain.
