Alkaline diet?

Anyone on an alkaline diet? Do you like it?

I'm hearing a lot of good things about this. What are your opinions? Any recipes to share? Anyone using a green powder called "Green Vibrance"? Also what kind of hemp protein powder are you guys using?

I know, a lot of questions, but that's how I learn.

Janie,
I'm not specifically on a high-alkaline diet, but I think it's a good idea. I do avoid or limit high-acid foods (coffee, colas, sugar, white flour, many grains) and try to favor alkaline foods (greens, etc.)

I haven't tried that particular green powder, but I've used green powders in the past. They taste pretty healthy (ie: yuk!). I prefer wheat grass juice from www.dynamicgreens.com , which doesn't taste too green, but rather pleasantly sweet.

As for hemp protein powder, I like Nutiva. I've tried other brands, but most taste too green or earthy for my tastes. Nutiva tastes nuttier, IMO. Nutiva's web prices are good (better than in stores), and shipping is free over $30 (?) . www.nutiva.com .

Thanks Kathryn,

I knew I could count on you. I'm gong to add lots more green to my diet. I hear all kinds of great things about that.

I bought from Amazon.com a couple of books about the subject plus some recipes. I also bought sweet pea seeds for sprouting to join in the others I need to use up.

Going to the store now to by the hemp powder you suggested and later this week or next will be growing wheat grass. Hopefully Fred n Meyer will have that brand name of hemp. I've ordered a wheat grass juicer from Amazon today as well.

Here's to good health,

Janie

Kathryn,

Just wanted you to know, I've ordered hemp protein and oil. Should get them in the mail in about 5 days.

Thank you again,

Janie

Hi Kathryn,

How do you use the hemp protein? I bought some, then I realized I have no idea what to do with it.

Hi Janie,

I think eating more alkaline foods is fabulous! A few years ago I followed the acid/alkaline diet (I think Christopher Vasey wrote the book that I followed) and I loved it! I even bought some of the supplements though they were a bit pricey. In fact I found the litmus paper roll I bought when I was really into it. Weird! lol

Unforunately, I let myself waiver from it. Why do "we" do that to ourselves? I still try to lean towards alkaline foods, though, and notice that I feel MUCH better when I do.

I'm not sure but I think a lot of the vegan and vegetarian diets are pretty alkaline, but you can work some meat in if you choose. If I remember correctly it's just a matter of balancing out the acid you eat with alkaline foods.

I'm thinking I need to focused on an alkaline focused way of eating. That is, after I get back from vacation. ;)

Keep us posted on what you decide and how it works for you. :)

Fitt44,

Loved the article. Thank you so much for this information.

Connie12,

I'm going to go slow on this one. My plan is to eat alkaline foods in every meal for about a week. Then move on to one total alkaline meal for one week. Then again move on to at least 2 alkaline meals a day. The last meal will be a balance of the two acid and alkaline based foods. It's got to be better than what I'm doing now. Which I thought wasn't to horribly bad, but I had a bone density test done on me and found out that I have osteopenia. Which means I'm starting to have porous bones. The good news, is it's reversible. It's scary and I'm now taking 1 multiple vitamin and 2 calcium tablets per day, and not forgetting to do this. I figured eating the correct way, or most of the way will do me a whole lot of good.

Also weight bearing exercise is very important. Which I do 3 times a week. Then cardio 2 days a week, in between the weight training.

My grandmother and mother had this condition and each one later in life, just walked wrong and broke their foot. This will not happen to me if I have anything to say about it.

I bought a wheat grass juicer, seeds and seeds for sprouting. I'm going for it. Will be making wonderful vegie smoothies and drinking them at least twice a day.

If I want to reverse this condition, I won't be able to let this waiver, I have to do this for my own protection and it's up to me to do this the correct way. I'll be tested again in 2 years.

Thank you for your story and the important information. Enjoy your vacation. Where did you go?

I'll be balancing,

Janie

I put a couple of scoops in a smoothie (with rice milk, frozen fruit and a sweetener; with rice milk, frozen banana and cocoa powder, etc.).

When my FIL was in the throes of colon cancer he was learning about this. He got us all excited about doing the paper test! LOL! I was pleased to discover that I was in a good range. One thing that he started to do and the rest of us do now to is to drink Goji juice. It is so good! DHs #s were low and after a couple weeks of drinking this stuff his levels were better. MIL orderes it by the case and we get it from her. If anyone is interested I can find out where to order it from. PM me if you'd like.

Hi Janie, your plan sounds very wise and healthy. I'm looking forward to reading about your progress/results/whatever you want to call it. LOL

I leave for vacation tomorrow (Wednesday), yay!! I'm going to visit my family in Memphis (where I moved from almost a year ago). I'm meeting my new baby niece, and being part of my sister's wedding. :)

I just may follow in your wise alkaline footsteps when I get back...I'm sure I'll need some cleaning and rebalancing in more ways than one. ;)

Take care!

Thanks! All the other protein powders I buy are flavored, so I was lost when this arrived. I'll give the smoothie a try.

I'm just trying to get more protein in my diet, but I'm intrigued by this discussion. What are the benefits of an alkaline diet?

Shari
