Advice on Adding Strength Training

The STS user guide (PDF download) is available for purchase here:

http://www.cathedownloads.com/sts-users-guide/

I think we should all respect Cathe's intellectual property and pay her for her products rather than passing them around as if they are free resources.

Hi Sue,

I suppose your remark is directly addressed to me.

Sorry for passing it to christin.
That being said I am not selling it.
It is a one off favour done to a fellow cathlete.

I am not selling cathe's intellectual property!

Only Cathe is allowed to decide who her property is transferred to free of charge. Since you received the PDF from someone free of charge you should pay for it at Cathe's downloads site. Anyone you passed it on to should also visit and pay for it. That would be the right thing to do. Just because you didn't make money by giving it to someone else does t mean that Cathe wasn't financially impacted. I think you had good intentions and maybe didn't know this is an actual product, not a freebie like a blog post.

To be frank I did not know there was a STS pdf file.

Please let's not make it a big deal!

If you didn't know there was a STS PDF file what did you send to the OP? I'm not making this a big deal. I'm politely pointing out that people should be paid for their hard work. I think we can all get behind that concept.

I got to know what this means (I'm not figuring out how to work the new reply or quote features) so I just cut and pasted this:

To conclude, try not to be distracted by advises from users who claim to know about overloading (sts)
while they stick to wasting time lifting toothpick advocating catabolism:D:D.

Hi there,

This interesting thread has turned heated again unecessarily.

I would like to point out that I did not mention any name neither did i specify this forum.
So I do not understand why anyone would feel "belittled" or bad about this.

Please do not take my comment out of the context.
The sentence was relevant to the topic discussed.
I was replying to the question regarding muscle building through overloading method.
excessive cardio which is the result of catabolism does not help building muscle.
This is proven and it has always been one of the training fact to bear in mind.

That being said I am not going to validate anyone comment just to please an EXCESSIVE inclination TO cardio!

Hope anyone does not take this as a "belittling" comment.
I will stick to science. Should it make anyone belittled, then he or she need to deal with it!

So rude Nathalie, shame on you. Hard to reconcile your constant rudeness and public antipathy.
Your opinions are just one, just yours. There are always multiple perspectives and approaches. Once you've had your say, no need to hammer it home repeatedly. I am sure Christin is an intelligent woman. Let her figure out for herself what works for her in the world of so many fitness approaches.

Clare

I think your comment above mentioning constant rudeness is a total pathetic fallacy!

In fact you are the one who seem to get irritated by my opinion. hmm...:cool::cool:
Also you are notoriously known here for , to use the word, constantly snapping (snipping) at people while trying to make YOUR point!

You can carry on expressing your own training science on building muscle snapping at me but I will stick to reputable/documented source.
You can even write a book on your training approach, i will still stick to my gun:cool::cool:
should this please you or not!

As I stated before, you seem to have an issue with me.
Please do not drag lovely and helpful cathletes into this!

OK you have made your point. I can purchase a DVD or a file and decide to give it away as a gift!
posting more than once fairly sound a big deal IMO. I would like , politely, to point out that I did not massively distribute the file and get money for.Which would be an infrigement.

I have tought fitness and dancing classes myself.
So i know and understand the concept!

Oh no, I certainly didn't mean to stir up any trouble. I truly appreciate each and every opinion and word of advice that you all have given. We all have our own, unique experiences and we each have bodies that respond to different things in different ways. I am open to ALL suggestions - you never know what might be the "perfect fit" for me. More than anything else, I appreciate the support you all have given to me as I start this journey. It's been a tough stretch for me and knowing that I am not alone and that some intelligent, strong, and kind Cathletes have got my back is a real Godsend. Please keep the words of advice coming and know that your words are appreciated. Wishing you all a Happy New Year's Eve!

Hi Christin, just wanted to offer my support and well wishes for you in 2015. You seem so open-minded and willing to explore. I am sure you will find what feels best for YOU and what works best for YOUR goals. We're all different and there's nothing wrong with that. Ultimately it's about personal happiness and health, right? And that can look different for different people. Be healthy and well and keep us posted on how your plan shakes out!

Thank you so much, Lisa! :) You couldn't have said it better or more accurately. I will definitely post updates. As of right now, my boyfriend is in the basement setting up my new squat rack/ tower. Sooooo excited to get started!

Hi Everyone,

I know there are many users just lurking forum and looking for information on how to add strength and gain muscle.

This topic has been covered by many fitness professionals (including cathe).
Many have, God knows how many time, they have encouraged women to reduce cardio
and lift heavy. I can't no longer count how many vblog answering questions on this.
Everytime the answer is the same cardio yes, but not excessively with more focus on lifting HEAVY.

Our body was not made to successfully achieve two opposite goals catabolism (muscle breakdown)
and anabolism (building/gaining muscle). This apply to anyone regardless of bodytype!

Now I would like to share a Q&A from a fitness professional.
Yes she is a bodybuilder with a gymnastic background.
Yes genetics plays but she works hard. We can have different opinion and think this could be gained
by consuming enhancing harmful supplement, each of their own opinion. Opinion I am not personally sharing!

Bottom line is we can all gain muscle but there is some work to do and more importantly
there is a smart rotation/plan including reasonable and realistic ratio between cardio and weight.
Circuits only won't add muscles. They do condition a body though.

Last but more importantly NUTRITION.

HTH!

Hi everyone!

I am happy to say that I am LOVING STS!!!! I am on Disc 6 of the STS program (I'm going in order on a 3 1/2 month rotation as recommended) and have been doing strength training only on M-W-F, doing Hiit Cardio only on Tues & Thurs, and Kickboxing or Kettlebell workouts on Saturdays. I take a fabulous yoga class on Sunday and the rest of that day is pure rest and recovery. I have a long ways to go and have been truly humbled by how uneven my body is. My left side is VERY weak compared to my right. I also find pushups maddening because I have a bad left shoulder and I feel like I should be able to do more without dropping to my knees. I am very glad that I started with Disc 1 and am going on from there because I really did need to build up my endurance. It just goes to show you that you can be in incredible shape cardiovascular-wise yet be lacking in the strength department. My upper body may be rather wimpy but my legs are so much stronger than I thought they were!!! That said, I think I am gonna need to get a weighted vest for all of the heavy squats, lunges, etc. that I know are coming. My little hands and little bod simply can't hold on to the weights!!! Any suggestions on a good one to get or any other ideas that may help me are very welcomed!

I am going to post this message on the other thread and hope that Michele updates us all there. I've been crossing my fingers that she's enjoying it, too!
