Hi Sally (and Everyone
)
Exercise is widely known to help in weight loss and muscle strengthening, but its effects on bones may be even more important, especially in later years when bones naturally lose density, and when falls become more dangerous. Exercise strengthens bones, increases bone density, and helps ward off osteoporosis. Weight-bearing exercises, like those you will find throughout STS can also reverse bone density loss. Even if you have osteoporosis already it is not too late to exercise, as long as you consult your health practitioner before changing your exercise regime.
For optimum bone health, include all three types of exercise beneficial to bones: weight bearing, strength training, and aerobic exercises.
Weight bearing exercises work against the body’s own
weight, and many of them used in STS are further assisted by the use of dumbbells or a barbell to strengthen the bones and muscles. These strength training exercises will help to slow down the loss of bone density and increase the rate of new bone formation. Since strength training exercises work against external weights, they are often more recognized for specifically strengthening the muscles, but it should be noted that these exercises also strengthen bones, since muscles are attached to and supported by bone. But the benefits don’t end there! General strength training exercises, as well as those included in STS, strengthen bones and the ligaments and tendons attached to them. These exercises also improve balance, which is especially important for older people.
Aerobic exercises are those that get your heart pumping and send oxygenated blood to the tissues, including bones. While bone may seem lifeless, it is constantly changing, with old bone being replaced by new, as long as it is supplied with fresh, oxygen-rich blood. The tendons and ligaments attached to bones also benefit from the extra fresh blood and oxygen. Aerobic exercises can be fun activities such as dancing, and also include exercises like jogging, running, fast walking, and of course my cardio videos. Plyo cardio workouts have been shown to be the best form of cardio for bone building, but may not be appropriate for everyone.
Weak, brittle bones are no fun for those who have them, but a simple regimen of bone-strengthening exercises can keep your bones strong and healthy for life.

I'm new to this site. Was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis. Want to know if the STS series would be the best thing for me to use to help build bone.
