Advanced Kickboxer Struggling w/ BM2

Hi,
I'm somewhat new to Cathe's workouts but as far as kickboxing, I consider myself an advanced exerciser. I easily mastered and fell in love with KPC and Kick Max (insert buckets of sweat here!). I bought BM2 and WANT to do it well but am pretty lost in the steps. I consider myself coordinated and I don't want to do a "basic" step because I want a really intense workout. Any recommendations or ideas?

BTW, this is my first post due to the fact that any questions I seem to have, I have found on similar posts. Lots of great info here! :D

Rewind, repeat.

Lisarae, the best advice I can give is to learn the workout when you're not working out. (I do that with Amy Bento's step, which is extremely complicated.) Think of it as a learning session, not a workout session.

Choose a tricky routine and learn it in small increments (rewind, repeat, rewind, repeat). The next time, learn another segment, then put them together.

I love the step routines in BodyMax (I learned them by doing Cardio Fusion, however!). I've found that learning Cathe's step routines are tough when you're new Cathe step, but after you've mastered a few, it gets easier to learn the rest.

Good luck!

I just did this workout on monday. I have finally gotten the moves down. I tried to do it with 2 risers (8 inches?). I was tired by the end of the warmup-LOL. I only made it through the first combo on the higher step before I had to put it back to 1 riser. I was exhausted by the end of the leg circuits. It was a great workout.

I ditto Pearlstrand---when I first started doing Cathe workouts, the step routines were confusing to me (and I'm usually into dancing and stuff).

Once I got one of the routines down in one of the videos, all the others got easier. Now I can do it...and you'll be able to, too. I remember when I first got it - I was sooooo proud of me.

Keep stepping...and rewinding...and you'll be all over it!
take Care!

Hi Lisarae,

I just wanted to say I understand where you're coming from. I also consider myself an advanced kick-boxer. I have been doing Cathe's workouts for a couple of years now, and have most of her workouts, including Bodymax2. I agree with the advise you've been given here about practicing the workouts without actually doing them. Step workouts are soo challenging for me, that I usually preview them quite a bit, trying to master the moves. One thing I've learned for myself is that I don't think I will ever love stepping. I have accepted that and much rather stick to my kick-boxing and weight-lifting workouts. It's great to try new things, but don't feel you have to like every workout. Also, there is nothing wrong with starting with a more basic step workout. No matter how basic, you will still get a good workout. Especially since it is something new to you :)

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to treat it like "homework" since I'm an educator anyway! I'm going to try and tackle a combo at a time. I know I will enjoy it once I can manage the workout. Any other DVD's that are less "steppy" that provide an intense workout? I have KM, BM2 and KPC. :D

I will agree with the other posters and say that you WILL eventually get it. One thing that works for me is to try to do the moves without the step so I can just get the rhythm of how my body is supposed to move. But, I guarantee, if you take it slowly and allow yourself to watch her, you'll get it. It's SO fun. BM2 is an awesome workout.

Do you have 4DS? There are two relatively complex step routines on there but it might be worth it for the kickbox and bootcamp cardio routines. These are awesome - especially when put together! I would say even more of a sweatfest than KPC! If you don't have them, watch the previews online - I'm sure you'll love it!

And don't worry about forcing yourself to like step. Do what you enjoy. I LOVE step and would do it every day if I didn't worry about injury! So I throw a KB/bootcamp type work in every now and then too - just to mix it up.

Also, have you done Turbo Jam? I like these a lot too but there aren't a whole lot out there. My favorite is Cardio Party 3.

Good luck!

I'd recommend IMax2 as a good, sweaty but non "steppy" workout. It has Cardio&Weights on the same dvd which also has a bit easier choreography.
