A little disappointed

Cathe's announcement indicated that all of her workouts for the next year or so will be cardio-oriented.

I wish I were able to do cardio workouts on video, but I just can't. I've tried Basic Step about 3 times now, and still wind up just doing my own routine and getting uncomfortably hot. I'm a reasonably good dancer, not clumsy at all, but just can't follow someone else's routine.

So I get all my cardio out of the way on the machines at the gym. The atmosphere is conducive at the gym and the air conditioning and giant fans make me so much cooler than I can ever be at home.

My favorite part of working out is coming home to my Cathe strength training workouts, but there are none on Cathe's current agenda.

I'm happy for cathe.com that it is going public, and CCETV sounds like a good company from all I've read about it. I'm hoping that we will continue to get the same level of personal attention that we have always received from Cathe and Chris, and I realize that a good company must grow in order to continue. Still, there's a part of me that knows that the days of the kind of intimacy we've enjoyed here are ending, and that's a teeny weeny bit sad. Please forgive me for this. I mean no harm and wish Cathe all the happiness and success in the world, and I know I'll get over it. But I think I'd get over it faster if I had an S&H II to look forward to.

Sorry to be such a bummer. Maybe next year we can have an S&H II? And maybe with the new resources available to Cathe, she will be able to put out more workouts and please us all. }(

Not a bummer Nancy. I was disappointed about that too. Although I DO do Cathe's cardio, so I am very pleased we are getting some new stuff.

I think you are just being compassionately analytical! :)

I get bored with the cardios faster than the weights though, so I can just reuse and reuse my strength tapes, or make up my own routines. As much as I love StepBlast or the Imaxes, it is sometimes hard to do something once you've done it over 20 times and some of the cardios I've done a lot more than that.

As to the intimacy, I am "pre-mourning" the loss of that too. But like you say, it's a trade off and I certainly wish Cathe and SNM every success. Maybe they are beginning a process of Global Domination. Mwaha haaaaa!! }(

Don't be sorry, Nancy! You are not a bummer, you're disappointed and it's good to share that. I can only hope that out of these new workouts, you may find some cardio to suit you and you could, you could! :) This sounds like a wonderful pairing and I think we'll continue to get that personal attention. Do make suggestions to Cathe about your disappointment, Nancy. I am sure there are others who are like-minded who will do the same and she aims to please all of her base so who knows what she may come up with for the not cardio oriented in the future? Cyber hugs to you! :)

Mogambo-
Global Domination sounds good! I'd like to live in a Cathe world. My DH would say I already do.

Just LOVE the pic of you and your daughter!

Thanks so much for your post, Bobbi. I keep editing my post. I'm sure you know from living with your DH that lawyers are ALWAYS editing and can't leave well enough alone.

Hey Nancy,I agree no need to feel bad. I didn't even think about no new strength stuff not coming out. I guess Cathe might lean towards where the demand might be at the moment. But, seems like a lot of new w/o are still going to come out so maybe we just need to be patient. Not all of us are going to be ecstatic at all times and that's A.O.K. :)

I'm bummed that the low impact workout is circuit because I hate circuit training with the intensity of a million burning suns! But who knows, maybe this will be the one I love?

Editing is a wonderful thing! For me, once a typo is set the sun doesn't shine as brightly. I hate spelling and grammar errors a lot. Is that weird? ;)

I love people who express disappointment with grace and style and edit their posts too. ;)

I was also a bit bummed about no weight training workouts coming soon. She may change her mind on this, I sure hope she does. The boxing stuff doesn't interest me at all so that to me is a bummer. I was hoping for another Pyramids workout or a GS II. Slow & Heavy is good as well, I would love to see another series like that.

RE: I am SO EXCITED!

I've been waiting literally for years for Cathe to start focusing on pure cardio again--I guess I'm the opposite of you Nancy, I do all my weight training at the gym but I really depend on Cathe for my high intensity cardio. Personally I was disappointed when the bulk of new workouts she came out with concentrated on weight and/or circuit training.

I can't wait to get some new Cathe cardio! WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

RE: I am SO EXCITED!

Yup, Laura, sounds like we're the yin and the yang. And you're right, we did get the Gym Styles last time and Musclemax.

I am worried about the little company merger too. I'm hoping this change will bring us better service and more workouts, instead of changing what we already love about Cathe workouts. Sometimes, I feel like everybody here on the forum is positive about anything coming from the company, and if I have a dissenting opinion...I'm the only one and therefore should keep quiet. I appreciate the honesty of your post.

I'd like a new two-day split weight routine at least.

I like having "pure cardio" workouts to alternate with "pure strength" workouts. It's always hard to figure out where to put those cardio-weight circuit workouts into my schedule.

I'd also much rather have seen an all-weights workout instead of the low impact circuit. You just can't go as heavy as I like to go on circuits.

Maybe there will be premixes that allow us to do only the weight portion (maybe each segment repeated, for a longer weight workout).

Guess I should be happy that Beachbody is coming out with some new weight workouts (P90 Masters).

Hi Nancy,

I don't really have an opinion about Cathe's business, or even her new DVD's because I'm still fairly new to her w/o's. The only DVD's I have are the beg/int.

I just want to acknowledge that I also have a hard time with cardio. I just barely mastered Basic Step and now I'm trying to get through Body Fusion. You should see me during that 3rd combo--now that's physical comedy. LOL!! I had to insert my own drastic modifications because I cannot do those turns.

I also battle with the heat factor. I have to put my step directly under a ceiling fan with an additional fan on the floor aimed straight at me. The last time I did step my face was red for 45 minutes.

I hate the gym so that's not an answer for me. I am looking into an elliptical trainer but that's just not in the budget at the moment. Fortunately, I don't have any of Cathe's weight training w/o's yet so I have a long way to go before I get bored.

Hang in there, fitness friend. I'm sure more strength training is on the way.

I hear ya Nancy! I'm a little sad about this whole merger too. I saw what happened to the Firm when they merged with Goodtimes and then proceeded to put out a lot of crappy workouts that required goofy equipment purchases, which I never bothered with. I don't think Cathe will fall for that, but I'm a little sad that she's going global. I've been a fan of hers for years, and it was so nice having this little advanced corner all to ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that she's going to get the recognition she deserves, but I hope she doesn't devote too much of her time to the "workouts for the masses" market.

Nancy and Leslie I'm right there with you. I posted the exact same reservation over in the Ask Cathe forum. So many of us loved the old Firm and then GT took it to he!! in a handbasket. Bad workouts, cheap equipment, terrible customer service, etc. I'm sure Cathe won't let us down, but I share in your quiet and reserved sadness. I did however, preorder.

>I got the impression that Butts and Guts will not be cardio.

You're right!
How did we forget about that one? (Such a "Firm"-like title!)

i, too, wish there were more strenth and less cardio..... but only because i recently figured out that the combination of cathe's step and all the cycling i do... are giving me knee pain! i didn't have ANY while doing the p90X rotation.... one day back to step with cathe... and that evening after my bike ride.... achey knees ..... however i did still order the complete set! i'll just do her cardio (step) less often than i used to!

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

Don't forget about the 4 day split due out in Winter:
"2) A four day cardio/weight split routine (ie: a) 30 minute form of cardio plus 30 minutes upper body b) 30 minute form of cardio plus 30 minutes standing lower body focus c) 30 minute form of cardio plus 30 minutes remaining upper body d) 30 minute form of cardio plus 30 minutes lower body floorwork)." This sounds a little like CTX style and you can always mix and match.
