A little disappointed

I know we all love Cathe, but Nancy, have you tried Cardio Coach? I haven't, but probably eventually will. A lot of VFers and Francine (here at Cathe) love it. It's Coach Sean talking to you when to do your blast, cardio, and recover (it's interval-like). You can use it on your treadmill, rebounder, elliptical or bike. In fact, some people use it with regular running. They have a free download:

You have to have mp3 player for this though. The sample is for Cardio Coach 2. They have Cardio Coach 5 -- I think this one is 1-hr long.

I agree I'm optimistically cautious about the whole merger. I want the best thing for her, her company and most importantly her family. I wonder what will happen as far as the high level of quality we've all gotten from her. She really is one of the best out there and I hate for the advanced stuff to become like all the rest of the videos who claim to be advanced but really don't push you hard enough. Well just have to sit back and see. Best wishes to her either way.

RE: I am SO EXCITED!

I, too, am VERY glad to see so much cardio on the way. Don't get me wrong - I only use Cathe for my weight training, but there's so much of that already with S&H, PS, GS, SS, PP, PUB/PLB, ME, PH, MM. Also, there are only so many ways you can work muscles at home (only so many chest exercises, etc). I think cardio just lends itself to more variety - step, kickbox, hi/lo, step kickbox, etc.

Bring on DRILL MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!}( :9 ;-)

I'm there with you, Nancy! Not so much on the workout aspect, as I love all shapes and forms of a workout. I am, however, with you on the merger deal. I really don't post or participate often, but I've been lurking here for many years. I absolutely love the intimacy and personal nature of this board. That is pretty much guaranteed to go away when exposure becomes mainstream. It's not a beginner-thing, it's purely a mass thing.

I'm hoping that Cathe is truly correct in that she'll have the freedom to create the workouts she wants. Sometimes you just don't realize the power a parent company is capable of holding over you until you're being held. My gut feeling is that it'll be ok, but I can't help but to wonder just a bit!

Steppingfool-
I was interested in Cardio Coach when I first heard about it, then I think I sampled some of the music and didn't find it motivating. Maybe I should check it out again if everyone is liking it. I could REALLY use something to make my gym experience less boring! Thanks for mentioning this.

I thank all of you for making me feel okay about speaking up. You know the old joke about no one mentioning that there is an elephant sitting in the middle of the room? I'm always the one to speak up and mention the elephant. I don't do it to be negative, just to get things out in the open.

Thanks guys!

RE: I am SO EXCITED!

Laura I couldn't agree with you more!! I do most of my weights at the gym since I work there and all my cardio's at home. I usally do my weights at lunch time. I just can't do cardio because then I would be all sweaty when I go back to work.

Nancy I am so sorry that you were disappointed. Of course you do have your rights:). Maybe Cathe will suprise you and add some extra weight training in the winter.

Nancy, I'm going to pass on these new workouts also. So, I think there's a few of us who are going to wait for reviews. :)

Nancy: I had the same reaction. I use Cathe mainly for weights and don't really do any of her cardio, so I was disappointed, too. On the other hand, with a bigger company and more resources behind her, who knows what we'll get next from Cathe. :)

Bunbun-
I thought you did a lot of Cathe cardio. I must have missed something. What kind of cardio do you do?

Hi all. I've been very busy at work the past couple of weeks working a proposal. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the announcement yesterday!!! I'm not too smart on the business aspect presented here. Does anyone know how this helps Cathe's business? I know there must be something huge in it for them or they wouldn't have done this.

I will remain optimistic. The only time I was disappointed in Cathe was when I heard the price of the July road trip. Not that I couldn't afford it...but the fact that many were investing lots of money to travel to NJ and stay in a hotel and all. Anyway...that's another story (sorry).

Nothing she has ever produced has been a disappointment to me...even her earlier stuff so I can't imagine it going bad.

Nope, I mainly use Cathe for weights. I do Rhythymic Step or Lowmax sometimes for variety, but by far my main cardio is racewalking on my treadmill.

Nancy,

I just want to thank you for mentioning the "elephant" in the room. I believe you are an attorney, and I imagine that may give you more of an idea of how things could change and not necessarily be for the better for us.

I'll be honest with you. When I first read the beginning of Cathe's announcement, I was immediately happy for Cathe but felt a little leary about the situation.

I know we have confidence in Cathe and her decisions. I'm going to go forward being as optimistic as I can, as I know you are as well. I do have the advantage of really looking forward to all the great new cardio as I just love it. I hope something will come along for you to enjoy as well.

Thank you, Nancy, for being so brave and honest about your feelings.

P.S. Did you ever work out your problem with your legs fatiguing (before you heart rate was elevated) while using the elliptical trainer at the gym?

Lisa J.

I am indeed bored with cardio, so new cardios look really promising. I would like more weight training variations as these are new ways to shape our bodies. I think the intimacy is not gone. We can still share our experience and help each other as well as newcomers. I remember Cathe's forums when it was 200 total posts. I see so many newcomers and hope I can embrace them and remember what their goals are. I look at as there are still so many discovering fitness and have questions. Maybe we can help them and still enjoy the closeness of those that have been working out awhile.

I rarely post but I must admit that I am skeptical about the new merger. I'm happy for Cathe and I'm sure that monitarily she will be set.

Unfortunately, it seems that so many times that when money / profit are factored into an equation along with marketing professionals the results can be dreadful. At least in this case, dreadful for the market of advanced exercisers who will become a small percentage of her market. Hopefully she will have enough clout in the company that she will remain true to the advanced exerciser (which I know is the intent) and I'll be purchasing her advanced workouts for years to come.

Diane Sue,

I'm touched by your remarks. I'm a relative newcomer to Cathe w/o's and I absolutely look to this website for encouragement, inspiration, and wisdom. It's nice to know that you and others are so willing to hold hands with the newbies, and I really need that sometimes. Thanks again. I've learned so much from you gals and I do appreciate it.
