A glass of water?

I was wondering what exactly is the messurement for "a glass" of water? I know that you are suppose to drink 8 glasses on a day that you are not working out and 10 glasses on the days that you are. But what exactly is "a glass"?

I typically drink anywhere between 80-100 ounces of water a day and a soda every once in a while. But I was wondering is this enough water everyday? I drink 20 ounces at a time, but I am thinking if I need to drink more than 100 ounces I am going to start floating on my feet instead of walking. :7

Thank you for your time!! Any advice goes a long way!!

typical serving is 8oz so 8 servings a day. the is what the minimum requirement is said to be but i think if you drink more and you feel fine with that its okay. i usually get 12-16 servings a day especially on heavy cardio or weight days.

Since people vary in size, a 'once-size-fits-all"'guideline for water doesn't really make sense, IMO. I prefer the guideline of trying to get about 1/2 your bodyweight in ounces of water (or other liquids, not including caffeine or soft drinks) per day. So for someone who weighs 120 pounds, 60 oz. is a good guideline. For someone at 200 lbs., 100 ounces would be the goal.

On days you workout, add enough water to replenish what you lose through working out (you can judge this by weighing yourself before working out, then again afterwards, and making sure to make up the difference).

I also think the body can better deal with nutrients, including water, in smaller amounts at one time. So 20 ounces might be a bit much all at once.

Thank you, that really comes in handy. I drink 20 ounces at once really is filling a 20 ounce cup and drinking it slowly, I don't slam it down and go for more. I drink anywhere from 80-100 ounce throughout the day, but it does take me all day to do so.

If I use your math, I weigh 113 which should be 56.5 ounces a day, so I am a little over with what I drink. I just wanted to make sure I was getting enough, which sounds like I am.

But you made me think up another question..
When is the best time to weight yourself? In the morning before your workout or in the evening before heading to bed, or any other time during the day. I know I love what the scale reads first thing in the morning and hate to look at it at night before I go to bed. There is a 3-5 lb difference in doing that. So which one is the correct weight?

I don't know if there is any one 'correct" weight, since it can fluctuate due to hydration level, etc. But I've always heard, and follow, the advice to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, after going to the bathroom, buck naked. It wouldn't really matter, I suppose, as long as you are comparing apples to apples (morning weigh-ins vs. morning weigh-ins) or oranges to oranges (two evenings weigh-ins) but by doing it in the morning, you are most apt to have the same hydration levels, etc. whereas doing it later in the day: too many variables from day to day, like if you eat a lot of carbohydrates one day, which can retain water, or even workout, which can cause your muscles to retain water.

Actually, you are pretty much right on target! Don't change a thing especially with working out to Cathe.

Our bodies are 70% water and for proper hydration and flushing of toxins and to keep water retention under control, it is good to strive for 1 ounce of water for every pound of your current weight. You weigh 113 pounds which means you should strive for 113 ounces. I say STRIVE because I know drinking that much water is hard to do all of the time.

You know your body the best, don't drink so much that you get sick. Honestly, it is really hard to overhydrate yourself unless you drink all of the water at one time then you will throw your electrolytes out of balance making you ill.

I agree with morning weigh-ins. After all day, you are still retaining the food and water content consumed; whereas, in the morning you have been on a mini fast. And by the way, get off the scale! Weighing once a week is enough to keep on track. Weighing yourself too often just will make you crazy due to the body's normal fluctuations!

Hope this helps,
Gina

I agree, once a week is plenty.

Thank you so much, that really makes a lot of since. And I am glad to know that weighing myself in the morning is the way to go. I really like my morning weight!!

On that note, I do only weigh myself once a week. Sunday is my only day off from working out and that is the day I choice to weigh myself. Altough there are times I walk past my scale and for giggles jump on just to see. I try not to make a deal about my weight, but like to know where I am at.

I just had my second child 4 months ago and I am getting back into shape and keeping a journal to see how long it takes me. This is a good vs. evil thing to do. Because when you hit a plato for weeks it makes you very frustrated. But that is when I put the scale up for a while and come back to it later. I have lost 31 lbs since he was born and only have 9 more to go to get back to my prepregnancy weight. :p

Thanks for all the advice!!!

Hi Melanie! Congrat's to you and your newest little bundle:) If you are breastfeeding it may take you longer to lose that last 5 to 10 pounds because the body hangs on to fat stores a bit longer when producing milk. In any case, I sure do understand your desire to want to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. Its a very natural desire for a post-pregnant mommy. Good luck and I agree with the water advice....drink your weight in ounces of water, pace consumption throughout the day, try to stay off that scale more than weekly as you already have been doing and in your case, try to get some sleep ;-)

Take Care!

Thank you Cathe for your advice, it is always a treat to hear from you directly. Although I must say that the support from the other members here is wonderful too. This is such a great forum site and I am glad to be apart of it.

Thank you again!!
