>>>6 month alumni checkin<<< Jan. 17 thru Jan.23

Good morning to all!
I hope the weekend has been a relaxing one for you all. We had a late night last night. We did not leave the house to take our nephew home until 10:30 and did not make it back home until almost 1 am. It is about a 35 min drive tom my brothers and then we stayed and poked fun at my brother for wearing his John Deer t-shirt to the play :p My niece was all dressed up and it was just too funny to see how clueless my brother was! haha In a funny way of course. Plays are not his thing but I love that he took her and they got to hang out. She will be 13 this year and things are slowly changing. Wow it makes me want to cry happy and sad tears all at the same time. haha

DH and I had our hands full last night. haha. I am so not used to kids! lol I could not get him to eat. I even gave into ice cream:eek: I know , that is so bad. Then when we got to my brothers house , he said that he has got a good temper on him. I told him I would too if all I had to eat for dinner was ice cream. And Jo, they played every game we had for about 10 sec each time for about 5 times each...haha! He is cute though. You can not help but look away and laugh when he is not getting it exactly like he wants it. I guess it kind of sounds like he was a little monster but he really wasn't. lol At one point he came up to me and said..."Say sorry Carson" and I said for what and he said "for not letting me play with the big ball...(the ab ball) I almost laughed right then but he was so serious I had to hold it in...

Well it is a rest day for me and I need it. What tough week of work outs. I am ready to go another one though!!!

Jo, Cendrine, Kim, & sometimes Mary;), Thank you for being the fitness friends I don't have here. If I did not have yall, I would not have any one to talk with about working out and clean eating. Yall give me that thing I so need! Inspiration, advice, motivation, all these things, I know I would falter on some days, if I did not have this place to come to and reinvigorate myself. Not just those things but you also have helped me to not just go through the motions but to actually set goals for myself and push to get better.

Jo, energy, I can feel it jumping out of the screen. You are always upbeat and vibrant. It is infectious. You seem like the kind of person I would love to be...Not afraid to try anything at least once. I would probably be scared out of my wits going to trapeze school but I would go because you would make me want to try anything once too...haha

Cendrine-Creative, you are always moving forward and not letting anything stand in your way. I love how you are always trying new foods and sharing your experience with us. I love how you are not rolling over and letting your issues stop you from your goals. You made me throw spinach in my protein shake and I loved it!

Kim, Caring, With such a busy life it never ceases to amaze me at how you still manage to make your self a priority and take your family along with you. I love hearing about how the whole family works out together and runs marathons and truely loves just spending time with each other. I like how you have made your work outs a family affair. You make me want to work out with DH. That is what inspired our yoga session.

Mary- Motivational, I am inspired to see you motivate an office full of women to be better because you know how good it feels. I love how you worry about picking just the right work out for them. You do not want to scare them away and that shows me that you really care about them succeeding.
I love that!

I know I got all mushy this morning but hell its Sunday or something right!:D
You are all great women and I am so happy we have a cmmon thread among us. It is great to know you all!

Have a great day!

Rachel

Oh Rachel!!!! You got me teared up over my oatmeal and pomegranites!! :D What kind and wonderful words! I feel the same way about everyone! And you! I always think of you as creative and caring and organized (I know you say you aren't but...). I agree with you on all our friendships. I do have one GF to talk to about clean eating but she doesn't workout! So our group we have here is my only all-in-one! I don't know ANYONE that is commited to working out like the girls here. That's also what keeps me wanting to talk to all of you and I so enjoy having a little glimpse into everyone's lives. I feel we've formed wonderful friendships! Thank you again for your heartfelt words! I think you're sentiments about everyone is exactly how I feel too. That is why I keep posting, besides all the motivation and inspiration, it helps with my accountability AND I feel we learn from each other! :D I wish we could all meet some day!

Today I did Disc 7. Though I like how quickly we're moving through this Meso (and I'm already ready to be done with the pushups!), I think I do prefer repeating each week twice. Remember how we always thought we did better the 2nd week? On some exercises, because I don't remember exactly what they were, I feel I'm not as mentally engaged and giving it the same level of energy. And, I still haven't been able to increase my weights back to what I originally had (mostly on shoulders). I wonder if I was struggling more before. I will tell you though, I think I'm stellar on my form this time through!

Off to the shower. Happy Sunday! BBL!

Thanks for the sweet words Rachael! It's funny I was thinking about you just now as ds and I went down to the river to skate, we saw a licence plate from Texas! I was thinking it would be so much fun to bring you to the winter park to try skating, sledding, curling!

Yesterday flew by with piano, swimming, hockey and supper out with friends. DH painted dd's room. We're making it a underwater/dolphin theme. DD and I went shopping a got a dolphin lamp, underwater 3-D picture, white curtains, etc.

Today was disc 7, HOLY MOLY PUSHUPS!!! I did about 3/4 of them in this dvd. How did everyone else do??? Then ds and I went down to the river and did about a 4 mile skate. which was absolutely beautiful.

Rachael It sounds like you had a great day with your family!! How old is your little nephew? I like your theory on why you remembered the second week of legs to be easier, LOL. I did not find disc 6 any easier than disc 3!

Jo Oh the tortilla chips sound yummy. I never thought of making homemade chips and crackers. That's what I love to snack on. I found the 3rd combo of KB very confusing with that little rotation. It's hard to rotation on the carpet :(

Cendrine I think using some of Cathe's beginner/intermediate workouts would be a great idea! How is the back today??

Mary I'm feeling a little guilty after some overindulgences with friends last night as well. The extra cardio from skating makes me feel better!! No girlfriends to deal with here yet but last night at dinner with our friends, their 5 year old son kept trading chairs to sit beside our 9 year old dd. LOL

Jo, thanks for the recipe, I think I won't put anything spicy in the chips like you suggested. My pesto crackers actually ask for chili flakes, a lot of them in my opinion, I only added a sprinkle and it is just perfect for us.
I have a cuisinart foodprocessor that is pretty big, but it would not hold the ammount I needed to blend for the pesto crackers, the only way I was able to do the pesto 'brew' with the three bunches of greens was in the extra large jar of the total blender, and even so I had to leave about four leaves out because it would have overflowed.... You got a birthday coming up anytime soon? Hint, hint....LOL

Mary, I had to laugh about your instructions to your son about how to properly hug a girl...LOL I'll have to remember that! Using the weighted gloves for kickboxing is an excellent idea! I will do that when I'm back in the game!

Rachel, thanks so much for sharing with us! It touched me! I think you are just amazing, I don't know if I would have my meals clean and prepped like you if I had a full time job out of the house! And that you are taking care of your health and cooking well for yourself even if dh does not join you is really remarkable to me too! You always seem upbeat to me as well, and I agree as all of us do that this thread has been super fun and motivating, encouraging and friendship building. I love checking in with all you guys, and I know I've said that many times before and I will continue to say it...LOL!

Kim that ice skate trip on the river sounds wonderful, I would love to some day do that! Back when I was a kid there was a pond in our village that would freeze over during the winter and we would go skating on it, rather than on an ice rink and it was really fun!
How has your eating been this week? It's already another week under the bridge, amazing, isn't it? I'm doing really well, so glad about that! I feel I have more balance and 'moderation' in my life these days. I tend to be black and white and so when I usually try to be clean I do it so stricty that I crash and burn somewhere along the line, but this time I feel like the focus is much more on healthy and protion sized than numbers and what I can't have, and that seems to make all the difference for me, focusing on why I eat the things I eat and why they are so good for me than rather think of what I try to avoid.
My back seems to be doing ok, so tomorrow I will start one of my workouts that I started out with years ago...LOL I'm ok with that and just glad that I am taking my time instead of trying to get back to the level I was overnight, (another black and white tendency....)

Good morning all!

Well this will be a quick one for me today. We are off to work. It is probably only going to be a couple of days but it should be real interesting. I will have to feel you in on the details later.
It was disc 7 today and holy moly pushups...every time I looked up it seemed like we were doing more of them.haha I do alright in the beginning and then about mid ways I start on my toes and finish on my knees and then by the end I start on my knees and finish on my face...haha:D:D:D
I am just in aww of everyone doing it on the screen. For the most part they do not even seem to struggle. If only they could be that easy for me. Oh well another goal I am pushing for!

I hope all of your weeks start great, I know I am going into this one with a big smile on my face!
Have a great day!

Rachel

Good Monday Morning!!!!!

Today was the HIIT Pyramids! I liked this workout! I hadn't previewed it as I wasn't worried about picking it up (which was fine!). For some reason I had tons of energy this morning so am very pleased with my performance. Okay a couple of things to note: I actually squeezed out a couple of "Jo air jacks" and I tried really really hard to actually do a few tuck jumps (still pathetic though!). But overall, I was pretty pleased!

Rachel, woohoo on a happy day for you! Nothing feels better does it? :D It must be in the air! I'm happy too! You made me laugh about your pushups! LOL! You're ahead of me! I'm more knees all the way through but can only do about half of what they do! Face plants are not unknown to me either! LOL! :D:eek:;):cool:

Off to the shower! Have a great day everyone!

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYBODY!!

It's lunch hour again, and thought I would drop a note to say HI!!! I finally listened to my body yesterday and gave it a much needed rest! I don't know how much of a rest with cooking, cleaning, & bill paying, but today I feel ready to take on disc 7. Push ups are probably my least favorite exercise, but I'm like the rest of you, I start on my toes, move to my knees and hope I don't fall flat on my face by the end of the workout .

Rachel - Your words to everybody were so inspirational. I don't have a lot of people that I can fall back on for encouragement. I'm sure we are all self motivated, but it really helps to have others who really understand what we do. I mostly keep my workout regime to myself and my DH.

Jo- I'm with you on repeating each week a 2nd time. I really miss that with this rotation. I always feel that I could have gone a little heavier/lighter on week 1, then the 2nd week I'm able to do a little tweaking to get each move just right. Still seeing results though. I really don't miss doing MESO 3 two times through! With Meso 3, I was so exhausted with each week, I was so ready to be finished.

Cendrine-Just remember that some of Cathe's workouts from years ago can still kick you in the tush. I'm always surprised when I want an easier workout and put in one of Cathe's oldies, only to say "WHAT the...I forgot how tough this one was." Still can't help but chuckle when I hear her say "that's hot" over and over in one of her older workouts. It's funny how those saying come back and make you cringe!!!

Kim-I don't know of to many people who can keep up the pace like you. I've got to stop my whining about the few errands I need to run for my DS. You seem to have a non-stop schedule, yet you can still fit in fun family time. The schools are closed today for Dr. Martin Luther King Day, so DS asked if girlfriend could come over for dinner. My DH has the day off also, so I asked that he stay close by for supervision. I hate to be like that, but my son is a few months shy of 15 and his friend will be turning 17 soon. They are both good kids, but.... I really was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with the boy/girl thing for several years yet, but that is not the direction things are going.

Ok ladies, I need to get back to work. Enjoy your Monday and work hard...

Mary

Hi all,

Rachel you cracked me up too about your pushup description! I love your honesty! Any your's too, Jo, about the air jacks and tuck jumps! It will take a while for me to get back to trying those, but I never had even close to perfect form on those even on my best days...LOL

I did a circuit workout with light weights today and was getting a good workout. I'm going to try it again on Wednesday but tomorrw I'll do the treadmill.

It's pouring buckets here right now. How's the weather where you guys are?

Well Cendrine, I am a little embarrassed to admit that it was almost 70 degrees here today and sunshining. I complained about the cold so much last week and all in all it only lasted a week. This should teach me a lesson!

It was a typical day at work today with too many chiefs and too many indians too. I still had a pretty good day because I promised yall I would. lol.
I have to look at it like the weather , it will be over before I know it!

JO I was thinking about you saying you are struggling to get back to your weight that you were using before and thought maybe it is that your form has improved so much that you might now be using the proper weight. I know some times if I tweak a move a little it feels like I hit the sweet spot and then the weight actually feels way heavier than whe I might not have been in the correct position.
Thanks for the Hiit pyramid heads up...from one previewer to another, I thought this one would not need to be but I am always a little apprehensive if I don't, but I think you and I are the same way about that.

Kim-I would love to come up and try ice skating, sledding and curling...I would feel like I was in a Charles Dickens Christmas movie..lol I remember one time here when I was really young and it snowed and iced really good...We made a sled with a piece of plywood and a trashbag...Now is that redneck or what! haha

Cendrine-It sounds like your work outs are coming along. So far so good, huh? I am so glad you are easing into it. You have a lot more self restraint than I do. I have noticed though, that the older I get the smarter I get about that. When I used to run, I had a recurring pain in my hip and I just would not listen to my body and stop. I was afraid I would not start up again. I was notorious for that. Finally I had to quit because it was effecting everything. I think I just never really learned to run properly, if that makes sense.

Mary- lol Your rest days look like mine. Full of every thing you needed to do during the week but either did not feel like it or did not have time!
I am so motivated and inspired and interested by all of you and your lives...I just always want to let you all know. It is fun to take these little fitness journeys with everyone even if we are all over the country!

I hope you all have a great night!

Rachel

I just finished HIIT Pyramid, it seemed much harder than the first time I did it. I think partly because I didn't sleep well last night. I'm noticing that I never sleep well Sunday nights, but I can't figure out why. But, goodness is it making Monday mornings hard.

Cendrine I didn't do great with the eating over the weekend but feeling back on track today!:D

So Mary, the rest of the family got the day off but you had to work? Doesn't seem fair;)

Rachael and Jo, you both seem to be very happy for a Monday morning! Hope you both had great days!

Since we're been talking about having supportive friends around us. I just wanted to vent a little. I'm very lucky to have many sports minded/fit people in my family and workplace. Over the years I've done many different sports/fitness activities with them. Now I've settled into my home gym and really enjoy my fitness routine with my Cathe rotations and the occasional other rotations although I still enjoy getting outside occasional for some outdoor sports. I do find that people constantly invite me to come and join them. My mom is very athletic and is retired. For example she called me Friday and wanted me to go the gym for a workout as her gym had "a bring a friend day". I've gone before but I'm not familiar with the machines/instructors and I just wanted to CCC as per my schedule. But I felt bad saying no.

I often do go crosscountry skiing and stuff with her on the weekends and that I enjoy but I'm not into the gym. Now my coworkers who I've run with over the years are nagging at me to train for a half marathon this spring. I have ran one full marathon and 3 half marathons. I sort of feel my running days are over. A 3-4 miler though the parks in the spring with friens is a fun activity but the days of wanting to do a 20 miler is way behind me. For most of them running is their only fitness activity and they completely don't understand why I work out in the basement. As spring approaches I know they will be asking me often. Anyways thanks for understanding my love of my home gym and my Cathe workout dvds.;)

I hear what you are saying, Kim, people have a hard time understanding that working out at home is so much fun! I also understand that you don't want to train for a 20 miler.... that does take a lot of training and would probably take away from time you could otherwise spend doing weights with Cathe and other fun workouts. I think it really helps, as I get older and grow in maturity, to know what I want and what I don't want and it gets harder for me to be talked into something these days and I am soo happy about that! It sounds like you are good about standing your ground workout wise, even if it does take effort to say no sometimes, huh?

I have a sort of an ongoing issue with friends too, they all act like they want to get in shape and want to have 'training and coaching sessions' with me, even in the nutrition department, but they are not committed, they want me to make them what they want to be and don't want to do the life style changes it would require.... I would soooooo love coaching and motivating and encouraging and training people with what I have learned over the past few years, but I'm not willing to invest in a 'drop-out'.... When people eat at my house I usually sit them in front of my healthy fare and they love it and want to know how to make it and all that, but it always boils down to this: they would love it as long as someone else does it for them.... Too bad, but then, getting healthy has been a process for me as well. I didn't turn into what I am now overnight.... Maybe one of these days it will click for my friends too and then I will be there to give support.

Rachel, I think you're right about my form! In fact, I have had DOMS in my biceps every week and I rarely had that before! And that's another one I've had to drop my weights on! I truly think though I thought my form was good before, it's really good now. So I know legs aren't a problem, and neither back or chest (except pushups) but I'm definitely having a harder time with shoulders and biceps and have had to drop my weights. But, I'm good with it!

Mary, can't remember if you went all the way through Meso 3 with us, but I ended up doing only 1 week each of Meso 3 but part of that was because of summer vacations coming up. I know I couldn't have done 2 weeks each! It ended up working good that way. Nice to have you checking in with us again!

Kim, sorry you didn't sleep well again! Sometimes I have trouble going to sleep on Sunday nights but I think it's because of sleeping too late on Sunday mornings! Yep, I'm with you on people "not getting it!" about working out at home! Oh...okay...you won't believe what someone said to me last week! I was going to post this to you guys and forgot. So a gal, a friend, more of an acquantince said to me last week: "Aren't you a little obsessive about working out? When are you going to be happy with your body?" My jaw dropped...I was stunned! It's not like I'm trying to be a competitive body builder here...WTH!! And, I'm not obsessive! I don't stress or sweat it if I miss a workout...I don't deprive myself of food or sleep. Scheesch! Sorry I digressed from your original post. Yes, people not only don't get it, they don't get that you enjoy your time at home, with your routine, your DVD's, and the trainers that MOTIVATE YOU!

Cendrine, you are cooking girlfirend! So glad you got your circuit in! Hope you were very careful! (I'm sure you were!) I can't wait until you can try the new workouts! You're going to love them! Oh, and we had CA weather today! It was a balmy 56! Yes, can you believe it!

Oh, and finally, since I'm on my soapbox...I said to that person: "Here's my perspective: I feel it's my right to workout, I owe it to myself, and that since I've been lucky enough to be blessed with good genes and am really healthy, I want to do everything I can to make sure I stay that way! It's my God-given right to workout, keep my weight in check and that I think it's a shame that people don't take advantage and care of what they have! I said it would be a shame to not to be able to do what I can do and that I will continue being active and taking advantage of my good health - ALWAYS!!!. Also, that I couldn't keep my body the way it is if I didn't workout and eat healthy! Mind you, I said all this very nice and sweet such that I am all the while sending her subliminal messages that what I was saying MIGHT have some impact on her!! :p;):D:cool:

Okay, so Kim, I know your vent was with other fit friends that don't understand your basement workout routine. That whole conversation I had came from someone who has had to modify their eating for health reasons but still won't workout!???? Go figure! Crazy huh??? Last thing last thing...I've read other posts where people have said some silly things to other devoted fitness enthusiasts, but it really had never happened to me. Usually people come to me for advice!

Talk to you all tomorrow!

Sorry, one more thing...Cendrine, I just reread your post. Yes, that happens to me too! I've had people come over to my house and tell me they are inspired when they are around me to be healthy and workout and like you, ask me all kinds of questions. But then it dissolves the minute they leave my house! LOL! Oh well...I do have my little group I'm working with at work so that's inspiring for me! We do what we can do! Maybe I should get one of THEM to go to circus school! HA!

Good morning...
I had to come straight from my shower , before anything else, and comment about Hiit Pyramid...and all Hiit's , I guess. I think I have a love, love, love, hate with these work outs. I love that they are short , love that they warn you about how long and what is coming, love that they push me farther than I have ever pushed before, and hate that I am not better at tuck jumps:p
I thought I was not going to like these work outs at all but wanted to go in to them thinking positively so when they got here, I promised myself to go in with an open mind. I really love them. They are terribly hard at times but with that little ticker on the tv I know exactly how long they are going to be hard and if I just concentrate, I can make it to the end. I LOVE THAT! I also love when she says that this is the last one and I thought there was one more after that. :D That is always a pleasant surprise.

This was a good work out to have today too because I snoozed my alarm for 30 minutes and when I finally looked at the clock instead of blindly swatting it , I almost freaked out. haha Then I remembered it was a Hiit day! Thank goodness for a 30 min. work out!

Ok I am late now again so I better go. Have a great day!

TTBBL

Rachel

Rachel, FANTASTIC! Sounds like you're having another FEEL GOOD day with the surprise of the HIIT Pyramids! LOL! :p I also am having another great day! Everything was working for me with Disc 8 today! I feel fantastic!

Cendrine, I just saw on the news you're supposed to get a TON more rain today! And we're going to have another SoCal day with 58 degrees! I'll wear a tank top under my pullover today and pretend I'm in CA! Stay dry!

Good Morning Kim and Mary! Here's to a GREAT day! Kim, we have TBL tonight!

Hellooooo again! I forgot to tell you girls that last night I spent about an hour playing with my Wii Fit (and bowling!). I really like the little run application and the hula hoop! Yes, I spent about 20 minutes playing with the hula hoop game and no doubt I will have sore obliques! So far, the basic run and the hula hoop work up the biggest sweat for me! :p:eek::cool:

Good Afternoon All,

First let me say that disc 7 last night really, really challenged me. I tried my best on the push-ups, but those dropsets, upsets, and every other kind of set she did was a KILLER. Could she possibly find any other way to do a pushup???? And those Elmo pushups, I couldn't even get my body off the ball. Maybe I need to put a little more air in my ball (Yeah that's it, definitely it's the lack of air in the ball :D:(:D:(:D:() It's getting better, but I have a ways to go. I keep hoping my DH doesn't come downstairs during that portion of the workout, some major grunting & groaning going on!!!

OK everybody- I could talk all day about family, friends and fitness. I think I shared with all of you some time back that I used to workout every morning at the gym with a group of ladies. Once the STS series came out, I made a hard decision to discontinue my workouts at the gym and start working out at home, primarily because the ladies were not as focused as I was with the series. They did not want to invest the time to do the testing, and the workouts were more challenging than they were willing to tackle. For so long I had guilt because I abandoned the group that I had started several years ago. I did leave several of my dvd's in my locker for the ladies to continue to use. I am still friends with these ladies, but their workouts have slowed, and the sad news is that they are really putting on a lot of weight. My one friend said that she wasn't motivated anymore because I wasn't coming to the gym and cheering them on. That also added a lot of guilt!! It took a long time for me to understand that if they wanted it bad enough, they would continue with or without me. I absolutely love working out in the privacy of my basement, and I love following Cathe's rotations. I can't tell you how many times at the gym I would push the ladies for a little more challenging workout only to give in to a lighter workout because they weren't up to it that morning. I finally decided I needed to get selfish and do what was best for me. Some of my sisters who are trying to lose weight feel that a daily workout routine is unattainable for them, and I try to get them to go onto Cathe's site for encouragement. They say OK, but then don't follow through. If I hear "I don't have time" one more time, I may scream. Like all of you, I don't feel we are obsessive, just dedicated. I know I want to be the healthiest I can be, even more so as I get older.

We just finished our lunch hour workout, and Yes we did the travel band workout for the 2nd time. This has become one of the favorites in the office. After doing all those blasted pushups yesterday, I opted out of the pushup segment of the workout today. My chest muscles know when to draw the limit!!!!

I'm sorry, I've rambled a bit much. Need to get back to work. Have a good one!!!

Mary

Jo, I loved your preaching! Preach on Sista! LOL! Feels good to hear you talking!

I did a walk today with lots of incline intensity, I'm feeling my legs from yesterday, and my shoulders a little, but I kind of want to do another weight workout tomorrow if possible. Light weights, of course.

Yep, we got the rain and you got our sun! As I type I can even hear some thunder out there and that is very, very rare around here! We can definitely use the rain.

Rachel, I'm glad you like the Hiit workout, I know when I get to it I will love that it is 30 minutes, not sure if I'll love anything else about it....LOL!
Oh, by the way, I was thrilled to read that you now put spinach in your protein drink because of my green smoothies! Awesome!

Hi Kim and Mary, I hope today is a good day for you guys!

This has been such a cheerful thread today, I hate to bring it down. But just want to share that a friend of mine passed away this morning. She was 39 years old and battled cancer for over a year now. She has 2 children ages 9 and 11. This is someone that I spent 3 years in university with and then use to work with at the hospital. Although we didn't socialize much outside work/school, I've known her well for over 20 years. Before Christmas she had a transplant and everything seemed very optimistic, so this came out of the blue. Many of the girls I work with also knew her well, so we were able to give each other lots of comfort throughout the day.:(:( Just breaks my heart.

Sure kind of puts all my venting in yesterday's thread into perspective.

I was very tempted to skip my workout when I got home but felt that it would be a good stress relief and it was. Now I heading off to watch ds's hockey game, but Jo I'm taping TBL to watch another day.
