50 years and older

Hi A-Jock,

I've been wanting to talk with you for awhile now. You are an inspiration for so many people. With your educational advice and for your well known mish-moshes and teacher.

I saw this an 80 year old woman on TV, in a body building competion, with her 40 or 50 year old daughter competing with one another. It was fantastic to see this senior citizen wearing a thong type outfit, with buldging muscles and in a shape that most of us dream about.

That image is now ingrained in my brain forever. If she can do it, why can't I? At least to stay as fit as you can and know how.

And YOU! You are like a chearleader, and giving us all kinds of wonderful advice. I can hardly wait to do one of your mish-moshes.

The mantra, "Someone else out there is doing it so I can too!" runs through my brain a lot. And Cathe has been my intensity inspiration; she's only a couple-three years younger than I, and not only does she film these nosebleed workouts 1-2X per year, she also maintains an instructor schedule AND a family life. I always say, If Cathe can do it, so can I (usually).

My own feeling is, if I want to be doing this in my 80's, just don't STOP doing it in my 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond. I've also gradually let go of thinking there's an gender/age-related ceiling to the intensity level (and frequency level, and duration level) of my exercise. Finally, I NEVER listen to what the medical profession has to say about women and exercise. The total tonnage of what the general medical profession knows about exercise physiology you could stuff up a cat's @$$.

Hi Robin,

Yes, I too try to get at least one hour of full exercise in a day. It just has to be. But I seem to follow a schedule, it just fits me. Something for me to work on.
