40's September thread

Good Morning,

Dh and I went to the lake yesterday it was a little chilly but not bad. I did Xtrain Legs and then walked on the TM for 30 minutes then I did a stretch which I really needed.

Mary-good job with your workout. The toe is feeling better but I overdid it today it started to hurt during legs but I continued to push.

Ronne-crosstrain is not one of my favorite workouts I was so glad Xtrain was different.

Hello

Roxie - I like Xtrain Legs, it's one of my favourites (and I generally don't like leg workouts!).

Mary - glad that this busy period won't last for ever for you! Bet you look lovely and grey-free again now.

Did LL today. Skipped the second set of plie squats. I'd had enough!
Went to see Rush last night, the racing film about Niki Lauda and James Hunt. I'm not interested in F1 at all, but it was fantastic. I highly recommend it (good date night film for you and DH, Mary!).

Good Morning,

I did Xtrain Bis and Tris, 30 minutes on the TM and some core work.

Ronne-I did enjoy legs yesterday which is weird because I don't like working legs.

Hi all! Today did STS TB. I think I have only done once or twice before, not bad, moves quickly. Roxie, so funny, I love that disc! But then I love doing legs. Your toe is better? Ronne, that movie does look good! Another one that looks intriguing is Gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, a little scary tho! Lisa, you out there? How was PT? Hello to Jody and Murphy! Hope all is well with everyone, have to start my driving! At least I don't have any 6th grade homework! Mary

Hi ladies, well, yesterday was PT, no dog walk cuz of rain. What they did was various ways of touching limbs to calm the nervous system. Before she felt diffferent areas and then after to compare. Said she noticed small change in my breathing in left side, and I wasn't so tense when at my neck. I dunno, I did feel relaxed, but then I got home. Got upset because NS won't refill my muscle relaxer because I'm 90 days out of surgery. I have to go to my primary (hate my primary since the one dr in the practice I loved left, but haven't had a chance to find another with everything else). Then DS got home, thought he was going to have a fab job offer and he had another interview with different place today, well, I guess I didn't act excited enough (tired of being in pain and pissed at medical maze, and that I just think I'm not progressing anymore, ie need something else, but no one guides me). So he slams basement door, well, I am not to be out done on slamming of doors and so it all escalated. So much for being relaxed. DS and I did make up after a huge family explosion with DH and DIL trying to calm each of us down.

So today DS did get the fab job offer (10 min after he went into interview with the other company). I'm trying to figure out what I need to do next for me. Dunno if I said how I heated up a rice bag put on that damn trap trigger point and did that a few times and it felt sooooo much better. I just need to get rid of the muscles bunched up and give them healing time. I did buy the hardest foam roller (feels like a cylindar of cement). And I'm getting into those triggers, heating up with rice seems to help relax the upper layer of muscle....I dunno, that's what I'm trying. Meanwhile I friend recommended a deep massage therapist who helps her trigger point (same place other side). SO I've left a message for her. I feel that's the last thing holding me back and PT really doesn't touch it.

I did walk the dogs today, going to celebrate DS job tonight, not sure if I'll get anything in (and I'm feeling like a rebel so thinking of not doing anything but foam rolling (which I've done) and relax those muscles with hot rice packs.

Murphy, I think of you often. I still sleep 10 hrs each night, which is abnormal for me, my body is still repairing, let your's repair too. Prayers, I know you will knock mr c out of the park!

Roxie, I had major doms in calves from that little calve section in LIS. I will get there in baby steps.

Mary, good thing you don't hvae that homework too :)

Ronne, I'm getting flexible for me....until I get those calf doms :)

Guess what, I did a workout today. I did TBT UB premix. It was super short and super sweet. I felt like my old self - well, I felt like an 80 year old working out for the first time with limited range of motion, but it felt good. I used 5 lb weights. It was crazy light for one side and worked fine for the limited side. I hope to manage 30 min a few times per week. I have been walking but slowly. I tried to powerwalk once and it wiped me out. Also, I am trying to switch to working out and night so that if I am wiped I can stay asleep - in theory anyway. :)

Thank you all for the support!

Murphy

Murphy, good job on the workout! Take it slow, your muscles have lots of memory, it will all come back quickly once you are ready. I think if you daily and keep you in my prayers. We are all sending you healing energy!

Hello

Happy Birthday Mary!! Hope you have a lovely day and get loads of presents!

Murphy - well done on the workout - I bet it felt great. It doesn't matter how light the weight, as long as you enjoyed it.

Lisa - congrats to DS on new job. It's really frustrating but you may never get back what you had but something that you can live with. Keep up the good work.

Mary - I don't have that one. I always thought the weights would be more than I have (and also it doesn't look like there's anything in there that isn't in other workouts). What do you think? I've not heard of that film - I'll look out for it.

Roxie - I like B&T - it's not too long!

Did CTX AS (shoulders/abs) today. Starting my new project so trying to get my head round it. I need to cut the grass, it looks like a jungle out the back!! I keep putting it off cos I'm feeling lazy. Give myself a kick up the backside!

Hi all! Today did LICH premix. It was ok, legs are a little sore from yesterday. Ronne, I wouldn't bother getting the DVD. It has 2 sets of everything done in Triset fashion. You aren't missing too much! Don't feel left out! Lisa, hope things are going better today. Congrats to DS and hope the doctor comes through for you. Roxie, what's new with you? Hi to Murphy and Jody! Thanks for the birthday wishes, just a regular Tuesday here, it was! Work, driving the kids around. We did have Chipoltle for dinner! We will have a little celebration this weekend when DH is home. Have a good evening, Mary

A friend visited yesterday and you know how people are put in your path for a reason? Well, I knew she got massages, but never thought to ask her about hers. She has same trigger point (but on right) that I have, and not as bad. So, I'm going to her massage person who she says will get in there and dig it out. Talked to massage person and she seems to understand exactly what I am gonig thru. So leave in a few for that.

Since I pullled myself up by my bootstraps (ie,. I have an action plan), I really did a lot of w/o. Dog walk, then CSS + step portion (minus last drill)! of course subbing my pt things where I couldn't do what cathe was doing. in one of the sections, she grabs an 8 lb weight for a cardio drill, yep, I grabbed my 3 lbs and felt like a star! lol who'd have thought these 3 lbs would come in so handy?

Ronne, hope you were able to kick yourself into high gear. You need a Mary energy boost :)

Murphy, awesome, your posts actually are helping me continue thru my recovery. I started out feeling 80, I might be down to 65 now :)

Mary, haven't taken any muscle relaxer, seeing how I do without them. I may have to take something after my deep tissue, digging and getting that trigger point. I feel very positive about this person and know it isn't a one time thing.

gotta run, wish me luck on getting to the root of these darn triggers

P.S. I'm normally not a massage kind of person, if I am seeking this out, you know I need it! I can find the sore spots I just cant get down deep enough with foam roller to get them out.

Good Evening,

I did KCM TLC Boxing and then DH and I went to the lake. It was only 75 here but felt like 90 on the water and the temp of the water wasn't very warm so couldn't get in to cool down.

Lisa-how was the massage.

Murphy-glad to hear you were able to get a workout in hang in there.

Mary-happy birthday I hope you had fun.

Massage was fabulous. Actually I wouldn't call it so much as a massage, she went around and found all the trigger point and gently press to release them. I can tell she has extreme experience with them because once I get cleared from neurosurgeon surgeon she wants to work on some of the neck tendons cuz they will form scar tissue she said. I go back Friday at 9 a.m. I can't wait for some of the pain to go away. I know I'll be seen her for a long time but it's going to be totally worth it.

Hello

Lisa - glad that you've found something that works for you.

Roxie - it's great that you can still get to the lake in late September.

Mary - thanks for the review.

Did CTX KB. The cardio isn't that challenging actually which makes a nice change! Doing the gymnastics run as usual this evening - will I be able to resist the lure of cake with my coffee?
Oh, I did get my arse into gear and cut the grass yesterday afternoon. Hurray for me and willpower!

Good Morning,

I did Xtrain AOLIH and then Cindy Whitmarsh 6wk 6pk abs, now its time for cleanmax. I have paid the bills and have my 2nd load of laundry going. My wt has gone up another lb just don't know what I am going to do.

Ronne-we really enjoyed it knowing our lake time is about over. Its suppose to rain this weekend and only be in the 70's.

Lisa-glad you enjoyed the massage.

Hi girls! Today did PP, one of my first Cathe workouts! I enjoyed it. Lisa, so glad you found someone to help you! Hope this is the magic that takes away the pain for you. Roxie, sorry about the pound, maybe it's just water weight? I never get on the scale, I'm too afraid! Ronne, you deserve the cake! How can you resist? I hardly ever say no to a sweet! Hi Jody! Long school day today? Hi Murphy! How are you doing? Just running children around this evening, thank goodness tomorrow is the end of the work week! Have a good day! Mary

hi all, didn't sleep well, I think my body was in shock at the relief it finally had. I just laid there and went, ah, but was a bit sore-ish. Same sore-ish today but not bad but I feel 50% better even though I still hurt. I go tomorrow morning again. I bought 3 45 min sessions and 2 30 min sessions, at her recomendation, so maybe after the 3rd session it will be more mantenance (can't spell today) as the muscles continue to accomodate their different role in my new body.

I did a 2 mile dog walk, and MMA boxing. just neck exercises of PT (am going to cancel rest of my sessions (2). My body is tired, so I think if I do anything tomorrow it's going to be YR. I do feel I'm finally getting some of my cardio back, still feel 65ish :)

Ronne, less challenging cardio is nice, I'm loving my modifications I do for the jumping parts.

Mary, sounds like it's been challenging getting back in the swing of work.

Murphy, how are you hanging in there?

Roxie, I do not want to step on the scale, I do need to lose some weight. I hope the magic weight loss fairy visits me---uh, is there such a thing? no? darn!

Jody, don't study too hard!

Hi

Lisa - good to see you sounding so positive. Keeping my fingers crossed for you this works.

Mary - what's PP? I resisted the cake, then had a glass of red wine when I got home, so I still got a treat!

Roxie - busy lady!

Did CTX SI (with Chest). The chest portion was quite tough.
Going out tonight with a friend, we're meeting for a drink and then going to see Blue Jasmine, the new Woody Allen film.
Got neighbours coming round for food tomorrow then have to go into town on Sunday so a busy weekend ahead. Plus one more workout to finish off the September rotation.

Good Morning,

I was headed into my workout room and in the hallway outside the bathroom was the a tarantula size black spider, I have never seen anything like it before so I went into my exercise room and shut the door walked on the TM and when I came out it was gone so I decided to make my bed so I wouldn't find it in there and when I came out it was in the hallway again scared the crap out of me so I tried to find the spider spray but couldn't so I used a fly swatter and beat the crap out of it and left it for dh to pick up pretty sure its a poisonous one. I saw the new workouts should be coming soon so excited and KCM is shipping her new one today too.

Ronne-I have to stay busy or go crazy.

Hey, no w/o, just got back from massage. Here's my lateest progress report I sent work. just fyi

I wanted to give everyone the latest update since if you talked to me prior to today you knew how discouraged I have been.

There were 3 problems that I was working on.
1. I'm happy to report I can now talk a lot without it causing the muscle tightening/choking throat feeling (I still cut all my pills in half though and that's getting old). Food and pills don't get stuck much anymore and if it does, I can normally drink a lot to get it to move (instead of coughing it up).
2. Lower back is much better(about back to normal), physical therapy helped with exercises that doesn't involve the neck.
3. Physical Therapy has my neck rotation back as much as possible, I probably lost 15% rotation, but that is to be expected. Where I was dismayed with Physical Therapy is the continued muscle spasms/pain and trigger points (they seemed to just do the same gentle massage) and it never gave me any relief. Add in the fact the neurosurgeon will not prescribe any more muscle relaxers (not that they helped that much). I was very frustrated and didn't know where to go for relief, thankfully, a friend visited Tuesday and hooked me up with an awesome CMT (certified massage therapist). For you old IBMers, this is Ron Robl's daughter.
4. I saw the CMT on Wed and felt immediate relief in the trigger points right between your shoulder blades. My left shoulder had a huge party of them going on. In talking with the CMT, she is VERY experienced in the type of surgery I had and knows everything that happens with the muscles. I just had my second session with her and she said my body had responded very well, but it is still in a state of healing so this will be a long process. She got out maybe 25% of the trigger points in my mid back, but the muscle that runs from the shoulder to the edge of the shoulder blade to your neck will be a toughie to get feeling better.....it has a lot of work put on it since it attaches to 5 of the facets and now 3 of my facets are fused. She also mentioned eventually needing to address those tendons as they will form scar tissue (need clearance from neurosurgeon first--that appt is in mid-Nov). She agrees that a shortened workday and lowered stress are important in the healing process. I have my next appt with her Tues and she thinks then my mid back should have very good relief and then we can work on the rest each week but tit will all take time since my body is really still in a healing process.

I never expected all of these muscle issues, and I'm learning patience with the body to heal. Geez, here I thought I was in pretty good shape and relatively young but this has really knocked me down. I have a renewed sense of hope with this CMT that with her assistance I will get thru this.
