Hi All,

This is the only DVD I don't have and I was wondering how much I'm missing. I'm wondering if I can mix and match from other dvd's to get a similar workout. Any advice would be appreciated.
THANKS!!!

It seems that quite a few people don't like the cardio on these DVDs, but I happen to love it. It's a little more dancy than Cathe's normal stuff, and I kind of like that. I was frustrated at first by a couple of them, but after a couple of tries I was fine. I really like everything about this series, actually, and I have everything of Cathe's.

If it's the only set of hers you don't have, I'd say go for it. If you really can't afford it, of course you can live without it, but I say go for it!

I like 4DS. Last week I combined the 4DS weight work with Shock Cardio. I've used 4DS as is and I've gotten a lot of use (in the past) out of the premixes. I enjoy the 4DS cardio and to me the step workouts are fresh and fun. I find that I use 4DS on and off quite a bit and I'm glad I own it. I feel this set gives a lot of bang for your buck. Fabulous premixes used to be something Cathe offered that set her workouts apart from everyone else. I hope she gets back to that (sorry, I know...broken record). I'm just a HUGE fan of Cathe's premixes and it's hard to settle for less when she set the bar to high in her past offerings.

I like 4DS cardio. I use them if I want a shorter cardio workout. You could probably use the cardio from CTX, if you have that, but 4DS is more "modern," if you know what I mean. Besides, there is the whole Now I Have the Complete Cathe Collection thing going on too!:D

I personally really love the two step workouts on this DVD. I try to do them when I can, even though most of my cardio is running. The choreography was very tricky for me to learn at first (because I'm NOT very coordinated LOL), but once I did, it just became so much fun.

I think I may pull it out this week and do the double cardio workout (which combines the two step workouts)! I haven't done it in a while and this thread reminded me of how much I love it :).

I also love the Boot Camp workout on this. Not super crazy about the kickboxing segment, but that's not too bad either. I used to substitute with the kickboxing workout from CTX.

I really enjoy the Kickbox and like Bootcamp too but am not a fan of the step work outs at all. Just not into really intricate choreo. The hardest step routine I ever learned successfully (choreo-wise) was Rythmic Step and that was when I was stepping all the time. These days I can't be bothered with intricate cardio of ANY kind...not even in a floor or kickbox routine and I rarely step which makes my patience for that choreo even less. That's just me though! :p

I love this series, especially the step workouts.

They are great when you don't have a lot of time for exercising and there is a lot of variety.

I really think that the 4DS workouts are a gem! I think that one of my current favorite cardio workouts is the LIS/HIS double cardio premix. I really love the cardio in this series. The step workouts are great and for me didn't take long to figure out. Also, the KB workout is fun.

I also use this as a full body workout by picking the full body premix which is 97 minutes long  and doing all the leg work but just picking and choosing 2 exercises per upper body part. It makes for a nice 60 min workout.

I really like the weight workouts on this set (though the moves are not always in synch with the music, as Cathe slows down during sets, which bothers some people, but not me).

The cardio I have mixed feelings about.

I like the KB workout, even though it's a bit short and doesn't really reach the intensity I like without modification (like double-timing punches).

I've only done the bootcamp cardio once, and it didn't really call to me, but would appeal to those who like bootcamp cardio.

I did not like the step workouts at all. Rather torquey, and badly cued. (I did higher-intensity step once after a couple of previews, and got about 80% of the choreo, but on a few moves, I needed one more rep to really nail it, and it wasn't there. I did not even do lower-intensity step after preview.)

You could definitely mix and match from other workouts. Good chaptering and premixes make this very doable. Start with a 30-minute cardio premix (or just do a warm-up and a few sections of the rest of a workout, until you get to around 30 minutes), then tack on 1/2 or 3/4 of a weight workout split, like GS. (I think sometimes reps in some of the workouts are overkill, so they can definitely be shortened).

HTH!

I was never a big cardio fan, but love weights & yoga, but once I bought 4ds, I really loved it. I mean it, every cardio. Perhaps b/c they are 30 min's and it goes quick, the music is cool, and the moves are really fun. My fav is the kickboxing. And I usually hate doing ab work (who loves it really?), but I love the KB ab section, it's fun but challenging. You can do 2 of the cardio's if you want. I like to do the 2 step routines back to back. I like them both, and bc is fun as well. I am afraid I will wear out the dvd, should have got in on a download.
Now that I got the new STS cardio, I'm mixing that in with them and feel like I'm missing my fav w/o's. but I try to get them all in. - autumn

I LOVE 4 DS! The KB is my favorite kickboxing workout and the step workouts are my favorite step workouts. I love the shoulder workout too, I like how much the rear delts get worked in it. Overall a very fun series!

4 Day Split is my least favorite of Cathe's newer releases. The step choreography is not near the quality of Step Moves and Athletic Step.

However:

I really like the music and the weight work is pretty good - esp. the lower body work in Kickbox.
