I was thinking I wanted to read something different, first thought of Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen, a book I saw advertised in a magazine. Somehow I always want to do something seasonal, I always want to watch the movie Practical Magic, Sandra Bullock - Nicole Kidman - Stockard Channing, (or the Lake House, just because it makes me think "fall"), but now I think I might just pick up the paperback, by Alice Hoffman. Fall always seems filled with woodsy color, smells, folklore & spells.

It appears the second book, is more coarse (language) & a bit darker than the movie, we'll see, 2 paperbacks, 40% off coupon at Borders.:)

I love the movie Practical Magic! I also love autumn and agree that there are certain books and movies that i prefer to watch during that season.

I read Practical Magic about 12 years ago and it was OK. I recently made the mistake of trying to watch the movie with Bullock and Kidman and it was unmitigated crap. Don't go there!

40% off is a bargain and there are so many fabulous books to choose from. My personal reading want-to list is about 6 miles long, although I don't tend to do seasonal reading...

Enjoy!

Too late Clare, already have seen it at least 5 times & love it. Totally bought into the sisters, aunts, boyfriends, townspeople & spells. Just started the book today, let's not spoil it.....it reads so far, like the movie...except for the foul language...totally unnecessary IMO, but then I saw Jackie Brown, the movie, a few times, and also thought there wasn't anything lost from the story by taking out the F-word.

In fact, it just made the story that much better, not for kids though (Jackie Brown) it's amazing what parents subject their kids to, these days. Sadder yet is kids buy into it so quickly.

Let you know Elle_P what the book ends up being like since you enjoyed the movie. Now I think I'll have to watch it again...:)

I read Practical Magic last year around Halloween because I LOVE the movie. The book is good, but different from the movie. It was a great fall read.... Love the movie though... Makes me hum, "You put the lime in the coconut ..."
