2 LB Thumb Weights For Kickboxing...

I finally found these at our local Target store today. I had all but given up on ever finding these anywhere...in a store or online.

I had read on the forums here that someone had seen these in a Target store but ours never stocked them...until now. So, if anyone else has been looking for a pair of these (they also had the 4 LB pair too) Target must be stocking them again if our out-of-the-way Target has them.

Can't wait to use them!!}( }( :D }( }(

Thumb weights? I'm not sure what you mean.

I can't picture them, but they don't sound very balanced or safe. Are they just weighted gloves with a strange name?

If someone is just starting out using weighted gloves (is this what they are?) for kickboxing, I personally think 2# can be a bit too much.

These are like narrow ankle weights that wrap around your hand and there is a loop for your thumb to keep them in place. The weight is in the palm of your hand instead of on the back side, like some hand weights. The 2 pound pair are each one pound individually.

I was tempted to get the 4 LB pair (2 lbs each) but will use the 1 pounders for awhile and see if I really need to go heavier. I messed around with them last night and they fit really well, they velcro so can be snugged up nicely. :)

NOW I can see them! Makes much more sense.

They actually sound pretty good. I've tried many kinds of hand weights, and I hated the ones that have the weight on the back of the hand. They seemed unbalanced.

What is the weight made of? I really like the "heavy rubber" that is in handweights by Ironwear. Fits much better than stiffer rubber, and is more stable than sand.

I found that 1# works well for quite a while, as you can increase intensity by increasing the amount of "oomph" you put in the punches rather than going up in weight (which can stress the elbows and shoulder joint---even so, I got a bit of elbow tendinitis at first because I went overboard in wanting to use them sevearal days in a row!).

This sounds exactly like what I have been searching for...I didn't know they existed. Are they actually called "Thumb Weights"?? I've tried 2 different pairs of weighted gloves & I don't like either one..one feels awkward (sand filled on back of hand!) & the other is ok, but rubs against teh back of my hands as the workout goes on & is sweaty! Hand weights don't work either!

I'll have to check out my Target...in what region of the country do live?

I use the 2 lb thumb weights for lower intensity cardio workouts - like Low Max and Body Fusion - but I can't IMAGINE using them for kickbox - I would think it would fatigue the arms so quickly.

Hmm... I think y'all are stronger than me.

YEA!!! I found them at Target! They must have recently upgraded their sporting goods selection. They only had the 4# ones, but I also found these 2# "walking hand weights", which are similar but smaller & w/o the thumblock. I'll use 2#s for a couple combos & switch to the 1#s when I feel fatigued.

I am so excited to see how this will work!!!

Well, after using them twice now for Cathe kickbox...I find my left arm is affected alot more than my right. I am right handed so that arm naturally is stronger. Using the handweights has not fatigued my right arm at all but I feel very awkward with my left. I'm not losing form, just feel like I'm not doing the punches right so the extra weight is working on that side! I will be picking up the 4 lb pair next time I'm in Target though.

And rose2boys...our Target has made definite improvements to the sporting goods area too. Must be a company wide move and all the better for us!:D

I know - I am so excited. I used the 1# walking weights today w/LowMax & boy, what difference 2 little lbs. made! It felt great! I've never used any hand weights for step/cardio before (recently started to w/Kick max & KPC). I definitely feel the difference so far using the weight for kickbox - I actually feel like I do the punches in better form & tone the arms more...

I was in Target today and saw 2# wrist weights. Is this what you are talking about? They said thumb weights for your wrist on the box, so I was confused. I didn't buy them because they said wrist weights but if that is them I will definately go back for them. (I am there like 2-3 times a week!!):p

Yes, those are it. The box says "4lb. thumblock wrist weights", but I use them kind of upside down w/the weight around my hands instead of my wrist.

I've only used them once so far (today to do KickMax - only during combos 1-2, then my 1#s for combo 3-4, don't use during warm ups or blasts). They worked pretty well, not as great as I had anticipated though.

You may also want to try looking at title1 boxing online. I got a pair there very reasonably-like 16.95 with shipping!
