I did M1 W1D1 today and I am sooo glad I took the time to do the 1RM tests. On most of the exercises I was questioning the wisdom of the amount of weight listed, but went with it. And most of the time it was the right weight. I would not have pushed myself to use those weights on my own. There were a couple that were way too high, so I'll use my instincts on those in the future, but the "right" far outweighed the "wrong."
I was a little disappointed that I still had to pause the DVD so often. But between writing notes and getting equipment I just couldn't get it together in the time allotted.
I am really pleased with the wrist weights I bought. They are gray and soft and I call them "doughnut" weights as that's what they look like. They have elastic in them and they slip on and off very quickly. These were perfect (I have four of them) for getting those in-between weight amounts.
So, if you're waffling on whether to take the time to do the 1RM tests, I highly recommend that you do. It will be worth it in the longrun having to wait on the start of the program until you finish the testing.
