100 push up challenge Tuesday

MAYNARDSMOM

Cathlete
Rest day for me. Feeling a little sore from yesterday, just a touch. Still going to skip chest work on S,J, & P though sub in bi's & tri's instead so I'm ready to hit the mat tomorrow.
Hubby didn't get his push-ups in yesterday, working OT so he was to tired.

Doing the challenge backwards

Meaning I do my "big" set first, & I use the Perfect Pushups handles. Why? 'Cause I've done massive #'s of pushups before, and this method works for me. The handles I use because it's harder to do P/U's with them - I find I can do about 10 less using the handles than not using them.

This morning I did 2 sets - 1st was 45, 2nd was 35. Will do more later for a daily total of at least 100.

Good Morning Ladies,

I started the challenge yesterday. I am in column 3 and did 49 pushups on my toes! I have a question for all of those who are doing the challenge. I was wondering if GS Chest and Tri's will count as my DAY 2 on Wednesday. There isn't that 60 second break in between sets. Should I do the GS or try another upper body chest w/o?

I would count it

Do it the same way Cathe does it. JMHO - but I CAN do a lot of pushups, so I think my opinon is somewhat valid.

Day 3

Today is day 3 for me at level 2. I did 10/8/8/5/10 for a total of 41. I thought the idea behind this was that it is supposed to get easier? It isn't. I am seriously doubting :( I will make it all the way thru all 6 weeks. But I will keep pluggin' away. Go, Nan, go!!:)

Nan

On 2nd thought, its not getting harder, either. And since I'm doing more and its not getting harder, maybe it really is getting easier?

It should never get easier...

...because the goal is always to do more! Just like spinning never really gets easier when you crank up the intensity. You can always go faster and harder! Or the "Hundreds" in Pilates - that exercise NEVER gets easier!

Today is a rest day for me. I'm not as sore as I expected so maybe I should've pushed harder?
I think I'm slipping into a funk b/c I'm finding it incredibly depressing to read how many toe push-ups you all can do. I can't do any and only managed 27 knee push ups yesterday. I guess it just proves how fat and out of shape I really am.:(

You ladies on the other hand are amazing! Keep up your amazing workouts!:D

Maybe someday I'll be able to post I eeked out 1 big girl push-up.
Unlikely, but who knows, it could happen? ,,,,,, so *could* world peace, low fuel prices......

Becky,

Hang in there! It took me a long time before I could do any toe push-ups. I started on my knees and just built upon that. Right now I can only do 15 straight leg pushups at a time, and I'm shaking by the end. I found it is easier for me to have my arms a little wider that my shoulders and hold that core tight. Maybe try to do toe pushups on your step w/2 or 3 riser. The elevation makes it easier also.

Good Luck and don't give up

Do the best you can!!!

Hi Becky,

I have to agree with Carolyn! Don't give up!!! Just do what you can and you'll get there even if that means just starting off with one or two on your toes and going to your knees! We have all started out this way along the road to a successful push-up.

Great job for all of you that did your workout today! Today is a well earned rest day for me. I am pretty fried from PH, bike workout and push-up challenge yesterday!

Hi Carolyn!!!! Hope that your are doing well! Miss you over at BFL forum.

Have a great day!
Heidi

Becky, I definitely agree with the others! Don't give up! It took me at least two years of trying before I could do any pushups on my toes. Another thing to try: I can't remember which workout Cathe does this in, but she recommends pushing up on your toes, then dropping to your knees to go back down for each rep. Or do it the other way: push up on your knees, then go to your toes to come back down. That helps strengthen the muscles so you can eventually go both directions on your toes.

Go Nan, Go! I don't think they are getting easier either, because every day we do MORE! You can do it! Keep pluggin' away!

I did day 3 of week one (level 3), so 15/13/10/10/19. Wrists are really feeling it. I guess I should try pushup handles or something to see if they help my wrists.

Good work everyone! Hang in there!

Did more, but not done

Did 80 more in a Circuit Training class - 4 sets of 20 - and will go home & do more with Perfect Pushup handles. Maybe 40 more to bring today's total to 200. Haven't done that many in a day in quite a while.

Can I join?

I am so happy to see this check in. I have never joined a check in group and am excited about it. I found out about the hundred pushups from a different thread I started and am happy to see that I can do more than I thought. I have to do my pushups for today. I am starting my second week of the challenge and I am at level 3. I did not do a chest workout last week but will get one in this week.

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! Thanks also for the idea about doing it halfway on toes. I think I will try pushing up on my toes tomorrow, for at least a few. I wasn't trying to be a whiner, cuz I *know* in my head that I didn't get out of shape overnite and I won't get in shape that way either. Sometimes it's just so aggravating to realize how far I let myself slide and how far I have to go! Thank you for the honesty that it may take a LOOOOOOOOOONG time before I can crank out toe push-ups. It makes me feel a little better in a weird way to know it will take time and that's okay.
Hopefully I'll check in tomorrow with a more positive report! :)

eta :OMG cakebaker 200 pushups in one day!!!!!!!?????? Unfriggin' believable! Can I be you when I grow up??????!!!!!!

Anytime Becky! Just hang in there and c'mon back here if you need some more encouragement! Push ups are hard, that's for sure. Let us know how the Cathe method is working for you.

And welcome mabdoo! The more the merrier!!
