#10 Challenge - September 16

Hi Maggie
My worst habit is going home after work and eating everything I see and undoing everything healthy I did for the day. And I don't know why I do this, but I just grab whatever is out and start eating - usually starchy carbs too like you mentioned!
What I started to do that has really helped me is schedule a snack an hour or so before I will be home. So if I'm going straight home from work, I'll eat something around 3:00 - 3:30. If I'm going somewhere after work, then I'll make sure to have my snack a little later. I've been eating a zone perfect bar, apple and string cheese, or oatmeal and those things help me. I find that I don't have the urge to raid the entire kitchen when I walk through the door!
Good Luck!!:D

Thanks for the tip Erin, when you said that you wrab whatever is out and start eating I just had to laugh because that is so me after work! I'd take off my shoes, put the purse down, head for the fridge/pantry and grab! I didn't realize it has become so much of a routine for me until DH asked "Aren't you having your after work snack" when I attempted not to do that anymore. What I have been doing is having just an apple around 2:30 but clearly that doesn't cut it. I need to find something that works for me and like you I think I will start incorporating some protein and healthy carbs into a small afternoon snack. I just hate to ruin the healthy eating for the rest of the day with a mad raiding of the fridge at 5:00. I guess this clean eating thing takes some practice and preparation ;) Thanks again!

What is it with those evening kitchen raids? OMG! I totally do this same thing. It takes some real mental preparation on my part to not raid the kitchen when I walk thru the door. I'm not the only one in my family that does it either - my two pups are just as ravenous when I get home and one of them eats her food so fast she doesn't even chew it! Ughhh....I hope I don't get to that point ;)

I did good yesterday but can feel a struggle coming on tonight..... mentally preparing now!!

Have a great day!

Eating went well yesterday and today has been good so far. I basically eat the same things day in and day out. I am not to creative when it comes to food.

This morning I did Meso 3, Disc 26 Plyo Legs! My first plyo workout! I'm tired!:p

I came through my evening out without any dietary disasters. They had a pasta station with all sorts of protein and veggies to saute and add to the pasta and vodka sauce. I stuck to the protein and veggies over lettuce. It was better looking than the pasta!! More than I would eat at home, but better than the folks pounding down the apple pie next to me.

Great Job!

Hey ladies! Glad I'm not the only one who slept through cardio this morning. :D This stupid stomach bug is just exhausting me. Everything I eat just runs right through me. :(

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi girls,
This moring I did CCV5 on the TC in the gym! I burned 778.8 cal. I LOVE IT:D And the best part, my weight is going down again. I lost 1.4 pounds!

Wow! You are doing great! Happy you found something that is working!

. I have to go to a jewelery party tonight and I'm worried about all the snack options that will be there! The woman having the party always has an awesome spread that rivals many weddings for the amount of food available!!:) I'm going to try to eat carefully and not try to cave into peer pressure, like, "Why haven't you tried the _________?" or "Here, you've GOT to eat this cookie..." :(

Good luck, tonight!

Maggie - I usually don't quote Dr. Phil, but I remember him saying that he had this problem and when he came home entered the house through the door to the kitchen, so in order to stop the snacking he entered the house from through the front door and stayed out of the kitchen.

Hi everyone,

Eating went well yesterday and so far today.

My WO this morning was Ab Circ. med ball and Dm scramble cardio.

Have to go wait for the bus. I'll try get back later.

Linda, although I'm not a fan of Dr. Phil's, this is a great idea!! Thanks for posting.

I have this issue, too. I have been able to control it to some degree by starting dinner as soon as I get home, but there are days when it's been so bad that I've forgotten what I've eaten... YIKES!!!

I have also stopped asking DH and DD what they want for dinner. It's not that I don't care, but it ends up being an hour long discussion back and forth about what I should cook that everyone agrees on and I find myself heading for the snacks to tide me over until a decision has been made. Plus, after a long day at work, I can be easily convinced to go out for dinner and dessert gets me every time.. So, unfortunately for them, they don't get much of a choice anymore but come to think of it I really don't think they've noticed!!! I'm sneaky like that...:D

Erin ~ Click grew on me. I am not a fan of strong coffee- I like a hint of coffee - and these have a strong coffee flavor to me anyway. :D I have samples - wish I could attach one here and share it with you.

Melissa ~ Now I am craving a cinnamon crunch bagel from STL Bread Co. Yummmm. It doesn't take much for me to crave something while AF is visiting.

Cindi ~ I have to manage my BS. Eating 5-6 small meals/day really does help. I have to watch my carbs which of course I crave. What is that about? ;) Anyway, I do well if I eat some protein & good fat with each of my meals.

Laura ~ Hope you get over the stomach bug ASAP!!

Hi to everyone!

Yesterday, I did a CLX DVD + Pure Barre lower body only and my PT prescrbied exercises for my abs. Today, I plan on some stretching and cardio maybe? Haven't decided.

OMG, me too. The first response from DH is "what do we have" or "Don't know, What do you want" and it goes back and forth like a tennis match until I choose something and throw it on the stove/oven/grill. Meanwhile, the almonds have been hit hard, and I'm ransacking the refridge for more. That's it, I'm picking out the food on the way home from work tonight.

Boy, Laura, feel better. Stomach bugs stink.

Thanks for the tip Linda, I wonder if that would actaully work for me? The problem is that would mean parking in front of the house instead of in the garage at the back to come in through the front door and not the kitchen door. It might be worth it, at least until it gets cold. I tell ya DH will really think I have lost it at that point ;)

Hi everyone!

Meals were pretty good today, have alot of energy. Todays workout was Cardio and Weights.

M1-Thomas whole wheat english muffin with cream cheese, egg whites
M2-Chicken sausage and whole wheat toast
M3-South beach cheese pizza and green beans
M4-Tuna and ritz
M5-Tilapia, whole wheat pasta, green beans, sf pudding

Have a great evening!

Jenn

Thanks Autumn. I'm a vegetarian and having protein with every meal is just hard. But I think you are right - I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to up my protein. I do eat dairy and eggs - I will try to plan them in throughout the day. Nuts are good for protein of course, but the calories add up fast!

I avoid soy though - I've heard mixed things about it so I figure it's better to steer clear.

LOL Melissa!! And here I was afraid you guys would think I was mean for not really giving them a choice. Nice to know I'm not alone!!! And like I said, they don't even notice, which I think is pretty funny...:p

This thread has such great energy. You guys are keeping me motivated...THANK YOU!!!

Autumn - sorry I made you crave a cinnamon crunch bagel from STL Bread Co. That was not nice of me, but sometimes you just have to satisfy your craving and move on. Not that I'm trying to enable you or anything, I'm just saying...;)

Meals for today:

M1: cinnamon raisin bagel (it was fresh, slightly warm and totally worth the 300 calories!!)
M2: chili
M3: apple & lowfat string cheese
M4: 4.5 oz 93% lean beef w/steamed brocolli, green beans & carrots
Snack: Quaker lowfat oatmeal raisin granola bar

This brings me to about 1300 calories so far. I was considering having a snack of salsa & a toasted whole wheat tortilla broken up into chips. Only about 100 calores, but I'm still feeling full from dinner. And since it's past 8:00 and one of my rules was no food after 8, I think I'll pass. I should go brush my teeth before I change my mind and regret it.

Have a good night everyone!!

I started to post this morning, but my computer had a virus - apparently I got rid of it. Or it's lying in wait, waiting for my Cathe username and password - ha!

Today was great, down 2.5 lbs! I know it's just the swelling going away, but I'll take it! My dr said no lifting more than 25# for 3 more weeks (he said TWO before!). Plus no situps or pushups - no love lost there, my 2 least faves. I did HSTA this morning - no plyos or straddle taps and kept the barbell light. I was happy that I did most of the upper body work almost full strength.

Eating was good yesterday, and so far today (well, there is an hour left before bed and it's when I tend to do the most damage). 96 oz water - yea!

Pam - How was eating out at the all-you-can-eat restaurant? Any good choices? I remember going to a seafood place like that as a kid, loading up on hushpuppies and fried shrimp. Bowl after bowl. Good times. ;)

Erin - I always feel like I need something sweet, especially after dinner. Really intense dark chocolate works pretty well - it's harder to overdo it with the 70% stuff.

Debbie - I love those Viactiv chews! Though at one point I was getting WAY more than the RDA. :)

Have a great night everyone!
