    Question about compound exercises

Hi Cathe! During the compound exercises, is the idea to use a weight that is heavy enough to fatigue the upper body muscle, or is it really just supposed to warm up the upper body muscle before the heavier work? If for example shoulders are very fatigued from the compound exercise, then it might...

High step circuit - first time

I finally tried High Step Circuit for the first time at the weekend and loved it. I've had all of the high step workouts since each one was released but was reluctant to try them because I don't have a high step. Well it worked fine. I have an old step and used the end of this plus the end of my...

    Another Slow & Heavy

I would love to see a total body slow heavy workout. Most total body workouts are fairly high rep, but I believe it is possible to gain muscle mass with a total body workout, you just need to increase the weights and lower the reps. :)

Another Pyramid workout with a slight change

I would also like this, with supersetting the push pull muscles. :)

    A 60-minute step workout

How about a 60-minute step workout in 3x20 minute segments as others have said, but with a premix version where you have the option of adding a blast at the end of each segment. :)

    So how strange am I?

I hate it when my cat brings in a mouse. If its alive, I catch it and put it outside. (Although whether they can recover from the trauma of being played with by a cat, I don't know.) Personally, I would rather catch a mouse alive and put it outside - I don't think its necessary to kill it...

Core work has enabled me to do full pushups!

I've been doing the core work from PUB regularly lately (re pikes, I went from not being able to balance on the ball to being able to do every other pike. My aim is to do all of them). I've never been able to do pushups on my toes before. Anyway, I was viewing P90X chest and back at the weekend...

Cathe or other - Thin but flabby!

I agree, a good balance of cardio and (moderate/heavy) weight training. Personally, I wouldn't recommend very high rep (low weight) weights such as Power Hour, but heavier stuff like MIS, the Pyramids, Muscle Max, Pure Strength, Gym Styles, Slow Heavy. Just find a style that you think you will...

    Had turkey for lunch....

Doesn't turkey have a lot of tryptophan (an amino acid) in it? I think it is supposed to be a good evening meal because it helps with sleep.

Not sure how to word this....

Am I the only one? I like a bit of background noise, it makes it clear that people are working really hard. It would be weird if they were completely silent. I wouldn't want so much of it that it sounded false, but I have never found it irritating at all in Cathe workouts.

Help on the DREAD issue of Weight Training?

I second the circuit training idea. Cardio and weights has a really nice step routine with intervals of weight training. You could also try the high step workouts. There are others like Step Jump Pump, and Bootcamp. You won't be able to go very heavy with circuit training so that will limit how...

    Attacks on London

I'm in West Sussex, England, and am constantly reading the latest news on the BBC website today. I used to live in London and caught the tube every day so it seems very close to home. Hope other England posters are okay.

Pyramid upper - can you go heavy?

Thanks for the replies. Regarding "muscle definition" and "strength gains", do you mean that you increased muscle mass? I really enjoy pyramid upper, but want to increase muscle - I think I just need to know that I am not wasting time doing the wrong workout.

Pyramid upper - can you go heavy?

I'm intrigued that so many people rate the pyramid workouts as effective weight workouts. I do think they are fun, good music, instruction, etc. But, because the rest periods are pretty non-existent, don't you find that you have to lower your weights compared to other strength workouts? What...

    Callanetics?

Callanetics is VERY effective for tightening the lower body and for increasing flexibility. If you go to www.videofitness.com, there are reviews, and also discussion threads in the forum that give a lot more info.

Body Blast Step Blast & Step, Jump& Pump

Step Blast is currently my favourite Cathe step workout, with IMAX-2 coming second. I don't always have the energy for the whole of Step Blast, but sometimes do a couple of the combos, or 1 combo and the blast at the end. I also like the step portion of SJP for a quick cardio session. Not so...

Help! I'm getting too small yet have lots of fat

I've already said this another post (sorry if I'm getting boring!) but I have the same problem, and have found that Callanetics has really tightened up my lower body. My thighs especially look better than they ever got from doing weighted leg workouts. I have also been cutting out sugar (for a...

    HELP! Bikini in 3 weeks.

I have a really hard time toning up my lower half too. Any of the workouts that you have will help (perhaps others can come with a rotation for you). However, what I have found most helpful is Callanetics (has done wonders for my thighs), and cutting out all sugary foods.
