    Invisible 50s

Interesting thread. I am 56 and think there are pros and cons to any age. I agree with Jeanne Marie regarding being able to afford things now. Twenty years ago I was living hand to mouth and felt I couldn't be myself at work because I could not afford to lose my job. I just had to be whatever...

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

Sorry about your boot height problem, Clare and JM. I definitely don't have that problem, but will keep a look out for what you need. Project!!!

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

I've noticed that too, JM. Fortunately, I do like suede. Have you tried La Canadienne? They tend to have narrower shafts than other boots, but they are pricey.

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

Pants and boots are never a problem. But this year I started wearing skirts for the first time since I was 11 years old, and it's much more comfy than I expected. I love that they make tights with really comfortable waistbands nowadays. They didn't have that when I was young. What happens...

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

I've been looking around, and it seems to me that most women who wear boots with tights seem to have found boots that pretty much fit their legs. I can't fathom how they find them. You know, there are lots of beautiful boots with wide shafts. You are lucky!

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

Thanks JM! I was thinking of you when I posted this. And, I might add, your legs are lovely and shapely my dear, NOt skinny. So there. ;)

    Books.

Hi Clare! I'm on a Dennis Lehane kick right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it starts to give me nightmares soon and I have to move on to something else. I am reading what I am told is the less dark stuff, which is the Kenzie/Gennaro series. I'm always looking for books that are...

    Boots for "skinny" legs?

Hello, Fashionistas. Anyone else loving boots this season? I have no problem finding great boots to wear with pants, but I went on the hunt for tall boots to wear with skirts and kept striking out because the boot shaft was too wide. Someone recommended a site called skinnylegboots.com...

    Best Cathlete Advice Ever

When I was younger, I used to think that 60 looked like Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith show, which of course I thought was ANCIENT. I look back at pics of the actress who played Aunt Bee now and I can see it was just the hair and the dress. Here she is at age 62 and (if you ignore the matronly...

    Interesting article in today's Times

Citing a study that questions whether all calories are truly alike and suggesting the possibility that carb calories cause obesity more than other calories. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/01/opinion/sunday/what-really-makes-us-fat.html?_r=1

Best way to monitor fitness improvements?

I ordered the Polar FT60 which is supposed to be like having a personal trainer on your wrist. LOL! I'm excited about it. A fun new toy to play with. I hope it will make those long walks on the treadmill and elliptical training tolerable and even interesting. Oh, and it's purple! :D FT60 -...

Any Forty-Somethings out there who are struggling?

Janis, although it's unlikely that this applies to you, I just want to put it out there: I used to have a similar IBS reaction to fruit, and then I started either buying organic or washing thoroughly with fruit wash, and the problem went away. For me, I think it was more what was on the fruit...

Any Forty-Somethings out there who are struggling?

I've read in a few places that a little extra weight during the change process is actually good for you and helps to control some of the "symptoms" such as hot flashes and anxiety. Mother Nature has her reasons. Of course, that doesn't make it any easier to accept when you just want to fit...

Best way to monitor fitness improvements?

Good advice, Tracy. For the record, I may have been a Cathlete in my forties, but I turned 56 this year  and I am not at that level anymore. Whatever those hormones were that drove me in my 30s and 40s have quieted down. A LOT. Nonetheless, there is a lot to be said for even having...
