Kanye West is such a jerk!

Sorry, but when you tell someone that you are going to shove the f*****g ball down her throat, you deserve to be penalized. Every professional gets bad calls; deal with it! From what I have seen, it was a correct call.

Beyonce is a class act all the way!

We are all in agreement that she should be penalized. I NEVER said she shouldn't. I was just a little surprised at how everyone is so angry about it after she has already been penalized, fined and has appologized. I think we are all on the same page here.

Sorry, I thought I heard on the news yesterday that they reviewed it and it wasn't a foot fault. Must have heard incorrectly. Wouldn't be the first time! ;) Doesn't really matter anyways. She was fined 10K and lost her match. I'm not sure why everyone is in such a tizzy over it. There's trash talking in all sports. It's not like the footballers and hockey players are all little innocents. They get a time out or a flag, Serena gets crucified in the media. Kind of a double standard. There's got be more important things going on in the world right now?

Oh jeez Liann--I never even thought of that comparison! Ever had seats behind the glass at an ice hockey game? Those guys make Serena look angelic! Almost as if..........she's wearing a halo!;)

I grew up on an ice rink Laura (trained at the Washington Caps practice rink) and for beating your opponent to a bloody pulp, you get to sit in a time out box. Do it again in the same game and you might get tossed from the game. If you just told the ref where you would like to stick you stick, you might have to be pulled away by a few of your buddies. And the fans eat it up!

I know! I'm a Flyers fan. ;) And not only do I see the fights, I can read lips.

i almost posted something about this morning. i didn't want to offend anybody but this so called class act is just jealous b/c taylor at least writes her own music while he steals beats from other artist. just wondering when the hip hop community as a whole are going to throw him and others that act like him out of their culture club. when ppl talk hip hop they automatically think him and other not so great role models instead of more respectable artists.

hats off to beyonce for being a class act though. i think the hip hop community was so embarrassed by that stunt.

i saw the serena meltdown but not exactly sure WHY she did. but they were comparing that to mackenroe(sp?) just kind of chuckled though.

There are artists from all genres that engage in dispicable behavior, behavior that was far worse than what he did last night. Kanye West is a childish, attention whore and what he needs is a quick slap upside the head from his mother - who unfortunately has passed away. The hip hop community can't throw Kanye or anyone out - the folks who listen to and buy his records have to stop listening to and buying his records if they want to see an artist punished. And trust me, Kanye is not revered within the hip hop community.

i know they can't literally "throw him out" i was just using a figure of speech. i wish though somebody would have said "he doesn't represent me or what hip hop is about". media treats him like he is hip hop god and a diva to boot so it goes straight to his head. just that whole culture is misrepresented by those that show poor judgment in behavior legal or illegal.

on the other hand i know there are far worse, those are who i define others(i don't buy for a minute TI or 50 cent are done with gang activity) but they get the same glory and lumped in the same genre as the good artists. while some may be controversial(dixie chicks, pink) but don't act a fool in public and are berated and never recover in their careers(although pink always bounces back so maybe not that best of an example).

i guess i am from a different time when respect was the key. never heard of the new kids on the block slapping the paparazzi b/c they were following them, not that paparazzi at time don't deserve it. just if i were a public figure i would try to be more positive and respectful. i don't particularity care about russell brands or his lame jokes but i wouldn't bum rush a stage and say somebody else should have been host.

his butt should have just been thrown out of the event though. it wasn't the first time somebody ruined a speech but they were thrown out why should kayne get special treatment?

I heard on CNN that he was escorted from the building after his little stunt.

Glad to hear that! He should be ashamed of himself for ruining Taylor's speech! Too bad they can't fine musicians for acting like a-holes! Maybe that would be the way to reduce the deficit???

I wouldn't have known about it either if I had not turned on the news this morning. It's amazing to me what is considered news now days. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a publicity stunt between West and MTV.

with mtv it doesn't surprise me anymore. ah i guess all i have are my memories of adam curry and his big hair to carson daily and the eclectic mix of videos on daily request. now its the 23rd edition of road rules vs real world to the 5th band puff daddy is putting together.

I heard of this and I as well this it's just awfully rude! Is there a link so I can actually see it? I missed it...you tube have it?

Serena only apologized after much outrage. I saw an interview with her prior to that and she flat out denied her appalling behavior. The fact that she would act like that in the first place is a reflection of her character, or lack thereof. As far as the fine, I suppose that is the equivilant of a $50.00 traffic ticket to her. What bothers me about is the sense of entitlement, that the rules don't really apply, and that she is just so important. Quite frankly, I don't like to see unsportsman(woman) like conduct on the part of any athletes, including hockey players. Being competitive doesn't have to involve acting dumb in public, especially when you don't have a real job. ;)

I had no idea what this was all about so I checked out Kanye West's antics on you tube earlier. He's such a jack @ss!!! OMG, if I were Taylor I think I'd have popped him one right there on the stage! Not sure what Beyonce did in response but if she stuck up for Taylor then ITA that she is a definite class act. What Kanye did is despicible!

Wendy - Beyonce won an award later and she invited Taylor up on stage and let Taylor finish the acceptance speech that Kayne interrupted. I thought it was a very classy thing to do. I thought Taylor's interview later was very classy as well.

Thanks for filling me in Liann. Wow, that IS classy. I don't know much from Beyonce's music but I just might buy a cd of hers on principle now! :)

Getting back to the OT: what did Kanye West do?

Kathryn - you have probably pieced it all together from the previous posts but if not, here is a rundown of the MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards):

1. Taylor Swift (for "You Belong With Me), Beyonce (for Single Ladies), and several others were up for the first award of the night - Best Female Video.
2. Taylor Swift won.
3. During her acceptance speech (really as soon as she started), Kanye West came up on stage, took the mic and said Beyonce's video and song were much better.

Much later that evening...

1. Beyonce is up for video of the year (again for Single Ladies).
2. Beyonce wins.
3. Beyonce says she remembers the emotions of winning when she was with Destiny's Child at the age of 17.
4. Beyonce calls Taylor Swift back to the stage so that she can have her moment and finish her speech. A total class act!!!

Carrie

ETA: I just read an article describing Kanye's appearance on The Jay Leno Show. He is blaming his behavior on his mother's death in 2007.

Just had to add that for me, the best moment in all of VMA history was when Beyonce invites Taylor back on stage and then the camera pans the audience and lands on Lady Gaga's birds nest and there is this empty look in her eyes (cause that's all you can see). Here's this awwwww moment, and that's where the camera man decides to hesitate, love it! Still makes me giggle.
