I'm suddenly having a panic attack! I have been a stay at home mom for the last 11 yrs & prior to that I worked the sam ecompany for 7 yrs!

Today I have my 1st interview for a P/T admin asst in a financial services ofc. Now I'm suddenly having cold feet!!

Just venting...any others w/similar situation?

you will do awesome!
your mommy skills transfer so well into the workplace - you are the queen of multi-tasking and will be an assett to any office!

Good luck! I've been a SAHM for 9 years and with the economy it looks as if I have to head back soon. I'm a nervous wreck. I've always hated interviews and now it's worse after being out of work so long:( Let us know how it goes, you'll do fine. Just think, you've been the CEO of a household, that's saying something! Again, good luck and positive thoughts:)

You're going to do better than you think. Last fall I was in the same situation...I had been a SAHM for years and went back to school and so I had my first job interview in a good 10 years. I felt awful afterwards, thinking I did horribly and sounded stupid, but I ended up getting the job!

Be confident...just because you've been out of the work world for a while does not mean that you cannot bring yourself up to speed as soon as you start the job. You're going to do fine!

1. Be positive
2. Emphasize your strengths
3. Smile and relax
4. Show that you are a team player
5. Show that you are flexible
6. Discuss why you are the best candidate for the job
7. Show up with a printed professional resume with a cover letter and hand it to the interviewer

Thanks!

THank you for all the kind words! I just got back & i actually think i did very well. What was supposed to be a quick 20-30 min meet&greet turned into a 50 min meeting!

We'll see. Even if I don't end up getting the job, just making it thru the dreaded 1st interview was confidence boosting! I was afraid of people thinking "who' s that old lady coming in here for ajob???"

Thanks to Cathe workouts I don't look my 43 yr old self! (lol)

Wishing you much luck! It sounds like it went great. :)

I've been home with the kids for over 13 years. I filled out a couple of applications for part-time jobs a few months ago, and the job history section was hilarious. I remember thinking, "Um...I'm not sure if you can contact my former employer. He may not remember me. He may not even work there anymore."

I've since learned that I have next to nothing to put on my resume, so I've got some volunteering to do before I head out there again. Not too many people are impressed with a history of 9 years of homeschooling.

Let us know how it all turns out. And you're right ~ the experience alone is worth quite a bit!

I agree with everyone else!! You'll be fine in the interview, you'll be AWESOME!!! I also agree that your parenting skills have prepared you better than you realize. ;)

You have my sincere best wishes!!

That is wonderful news that the interview went that long! I always try to psyc myself out by telling myself that they are the one looking for someone and that it has to be a good fit for both parties. Just be myself in other words. If I interview with someone and our personalities don't mesh as much as I need the job it probably isn't a good fit for me. The fact that the interview went longer means that they wanted to know more about you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope you get the job!!
