Anybody have the Core Balance Board by Cathe?

Anybody have the core board? I used to use a Reebok Core Board and absolutely loved it. However, not sure how this one compares. I do have a BOSU but think this would be a bit different. Wonder if Cathe is going to, one day, do a DVD using it??? Would love to hear from people who have this, or at least tried it on the RT. Thank you! ;)

I've been contemplating buying either a core balance/"wobble" board or a bosu, so I'd like to hear how Cathe's board measures up...

I just got it last week.

The platform is 14" in diameter, and it has little bumps for traction. There are 3 levels of difficulty ("wobbliness" :D ), adjusted by simply attaching a little cup to the bottom. It's hard to explain, but you'll get it once you see it. It comes with a mini-dvd featuring Cathe, who explains how to use it. She also demonstrates some exercises.

I like it a lot. I have a functional fitness DVD that required the use of a balance trainer of sorts, and this fits perfectly.

Lori - thank you! What DVD do you have to use with it? Do you know how it compares to the Reebok one? I'm thinking that the movement would be similar whereas the BOSU is nowhere near to the Reebok, although I love my BOSU :) I guess the board comes with things to adjust the level of difficulty? Seems like I read a post where somebody didn't have what was needed to change it. I think I'll get it. It will, in the end, only cost slightly more than what is in my basket now, by the time I pay shipping. This puts me over the $99 mark by $6! :D Wish they were more descriptive on the website. One thing I wanted was the size of it, so thank you for that.

If I ever get around to it, I will use my Bosu and my balance disk. It's hard to remember. ;) I would do bicep curls, etc on it-- any weight work you do while standing. With lighter weights than normal until I got used to it!

I get the general idea of it being a balancing "tool" in order to work your core more than usual.

Have heard of others who use their bosu for DVD's like Low Max, IMaxes, etc. Would this item work well for those types of things also?

And do you really feel your core when doing just standard weightwork while standing on the board?

TIA :D

As I understand it, this will be different from the BOSU in some ways, but similar in the use of the core for balance. For the Reebok board, you could use the Cathe tapes. I don't think this would work. The BOSU would, but I think it would be too much. Some of those moves are so fast and detailed. I may try Low Max one day, but not the IMAXs. Actually, I think I have tried Low Max, but not the whole workout. If you could get a Reebok board, you could use it more easily for the more difficult Cathe DVDs, IMO. The problem is they are expensive, and I don't think they are being made anymore.

I got off track - yes, you can definitely feel your core using something like this. You just have to work to balance. It's fun b/c you don't realize it really, but you are working. I use my BOSU for upper body work when Cathe is just standing there. Just a little extra bonus for me :) Tracey Staehle does some balance things just using one leg. I enjoy that too, but really get a kick out of these balance things. In an athletic training class I used to take, we used the Reebok core boards along with gliding discs...ahhhh:p

I've been working with the first one. The second DVD is coming in the mail (hopefully soon!). I found these through Kathryn. :)

Denise is such a nice person. I emailed a quick equipment question to her, and she sent me this long reply with a lot of advice and information. I tell ya...I wish she were in Chicago.

The approach is very different from Cathe's style. There's no music, and Denise is quiet but encouraging. Someone once said it's really like working one on one with a trainer, and they're right.

The Beginner DVD is more for those who are brand new to exercise or injured (me). Catheites who are in good form would probably want to head right for the Intermediate and/or Sports Conditioning DVDs.

Here's Denise on a morning TV show:

I love my bosu :) I average using it about 3 times a week. My favorite is Jari's Ripped 1000. I do most of the cardio on it (all except the plyojacks and the side lateral taps). For the weight segments I use it for all but the side to back lunges and the tricep track. On those two I use my high step with three risers.

That's just some examples...I could go on forever giving more :)

I've really gotten my money out of it that's for sure...especially since I actually bought mine for $50 (classsified ad in the paper ;)).
