RE: Oreo Balls!

OK I make this every Christmas, and it's really good. I'm doing it by memory, so I hope it's right:
Sundried tomato/pesto cheese spread

1 package sliced provologne cheese
1/4 c basil pesto
Pine nuts (toast them off first in a dry saute pan)
1 block of cream cheese, slightly softened
1 small jar of sundried tomatoes, drained, chopped
1 french-bread baguette sliced thinly

First, line a small round mixing bowl with plastic wrap, and let it hang over the sides of the bowl. Next:
Place slices of provologne cheese on top of the plastic wrap --up the sides of the bowl (the provologne will kind of encase the spread)
Mix the cream cheese and the pesto together
Spread 1/2 of the cream cheese/pesto mixture on top of provologne (this is your first layer)
Sprinkle pine nuts and chopped sundried tomatoes on top of cream cheese layer
put slices of provologne on top of pine nuts and SD tomatoes
Next the other 1/2 of the cream cheese mixture
Pine nuts and SD tomatoes
Provologne
When you're done layering, take the excess plastic wrap and fold over the top. Refrigerate over night and serve on top of baguette slices (either toasted or untoasted).

People flip for this spread. It's not low-cal, but it's really good!

ETA: You can add as few or as many sundried tomatos or pine nuts as you like. I like fewer sundried tomatoes and lots of pine nuts.

RE: Melissa!

Rock on Debbie...cookbooks are the bomb! I need all the help I can get at the holidays! Thanks!

RE: Oreo Balls!

Again drooling! Wow we have some talented ladies here! I will definitely look good at all the family dinners. The cool part..prep times are minimal but everybody will think I slaved for hours! LOL

Hey Shelley AND Melissa...

Shell, can you send the cookbook to Melissa? I was thinking there was a link posted but I cannot find one. Thanks!

RE: Oreo Balls!

Another one I like is fruit pizza. I've not made it in forever, but, from what I can remember, all you do is take a role of the sugar cookie dough, Roll it out like a pizza and bake it (not sure how long) but until it's goldenish. Then let cool. Top with thin layer of cream cheese and another thin layer of watered down jam (your favorite kind -- I like strawberry or blackberry -- not too watered down). Then top with your favorite berries and fruit. I like blackberries, strawberries and kiwi. Slice into party-sized wedges.

You also can make this same fruit pizza using a roll of peanut butter cookie dough, caramel ice cream topping and apple slices, but I've never done that one because I'd be afraid the apples would turn brown.

RE: Oreo Balls!

Oh, and just wanted to add that the Oreo Pizza from Domino's IS NOT all it's cracked up to be. The Oreo Balls are WAY BETTER! I'll leave it at that. :)

RE: Oreo Balls!

I LOVE that spinach dip.

Another good standby is cheap and simple. Go buy some cherry tomatoes, some bococcini (mini mozzarella balls - at the deli), some fresh basil and some wooden skewers. Then skewer them up: tomato, basil leaf, mozz ball (if you're feeling ambitious, I like to cut them all in half and match up the halves with a basil leaf between).
Stack all of the skewers up on a plate, drizzle with a nice olive oil, sprinkle with some sea salt (or kosher salt) and some fresh black pepper and you're good to go. Bonus - it's also super-healthy, lite and delicious!

YUM, this sounds SO GOOD!

I have an incredible urge to eat UNCLEAN after reading this thread!

RE: No Dessert is easier then THIS!

Oooh, Thank you so much Debbie and Melissa for these recipes!!:9 I can't wait to try them. Allison, good luck with your party!:D Sandy

I've been to a million of those types of parties!! I'm late adding in my 2 cents, but I've made that apple cake dessert mentioned (the easy one w/ the box of cake mix, but I don't add milk, just butter). Those Oreo balls are always a hit too! (of course, I haven't made any of this stuff since eating clean!! }( )

A cheeseball w/ crackers is always good too. You can get Triscuits or Kashi TLC crackers for a little healthier variety also.

Here's a yummy cheeseball that I always make for holidays.

2 (8oz) packages cream cheese, softened
1 package dry Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix
2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Chopped walnuts or pecans for rolling

Mix the cream cheese & dry HVR mix together in bowl. Add in cheese until mixed well (you might have to use your hands). Shape into 2 balls. Roll one in walnuts & one in pecans. Refrigerate for a couple hrs & serve w/ crackers.

And a simple dip for fruit. (my kids love this!)

1 (8oz) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix w/ mixer well until blended. Refrigerate & serve w/ apple slices & other fruit. Also you could put out those cinnamon graham cracker sticks.

HTH!

Hi Allison! What is up with the jewelry parties lately?? I've been to 3 in the past two months and was just invited to another one next week.

You've already gotten some great recipes. I make this dip all the time and it gets gobbled up.

1 package cream cheese (the "brick" kind)
1 tub of sour cream
1 envelope of taco seasoning

Mix all together. Spread into a shallow dish and top with shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and chopped tomato. Serve with Tostido's.
