Yummy Party Recipes

Cathlete
I'm having one of those dorky jewelry parties this weekend (I kinda got suckered into it) and I need some ideas on good (easy!) party recipes. I RARELY throw parties and am pretty clueless.

Should I prepare dinner food or just apps? Any ideas on desserts?
TIA!!

Allison

I'm GOING to a dorky jewelry party this weekend! I'm not so excited about it:p Especially since I don't like any of the jewelry (I checked out their website).

What time is your party? I would just do apps. And desserts should be something like squares or bars or cookies or things that are easy to eat without cutlery.

Oh Allison! I am a total loser when it comes to parties but I would serve appetizers. Finger foods are always winners with me! I always use this site for recipes when I don't have a clue what to make....

The ratings are very accurate and so are the recipes.

My old standby recipe is crab stuffed mushrooms which you can find there.

I have a very good and easy recipe for cookies which everybody raves about. They are ridiculously easy:

CAKE MIX COOKIES
1 package of cake mix (any flavor)
1 large egg
1/4 cup of oil
1/4 cup of water
1 cup of chopped nuts, raisins, oatmeal, coconut, chocolate chips, M&M'S® etc. (anything you like in cookies)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine cake mix, egg, oil, and water. Beat until well blended. Stir in remaining ingredient (s).
Drop by teaspoon about 1 inch apart onto greased cooke sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes or until done. Makes about 4 dozens. Yummy!

Oooooh, Melissa those sound de-lish! I'll be making them for sure!

Ugh, this party is way more stress than it should be. I'm just so darn clueless.

Oh, and Shelley--it's a Silpada party. I'm actually really starting to like their stuff. I have a friend who's husband broke his back a few months ago and she took up selling this jewelry to make a little extra money for the family. So when she asked me to host a party I just couldn't say no! Oh well, hopefully it'll be fun!

Have fun at the one you're going to! If you weren't so far away, I'd tell you to come stop by my house on Saturday!

Allison

OMG that stuff is gorgeous. I'd totally love to come to yours instead of the one I'm going to. I was showing my SO some of the stuff on line last night and he looked and said "what the he!! is that junk?". And it's expensive. I don't pay $40 for earrings, especially if they look like I got them out of someone's jewelry box in 1972.

Okay, rant over!

Allison,

For simple, easy apps try kraftfoods.com, or pilsbury.com. Food Network has a lot of great ideas, but usually more time consuming than I am sure you are wanting.

HTH :)

Have fun!

ETA ~ Melissa those cookies look totally to die for!

Hi Allison...here is a recipe that is ALWAYS a hit and you just plop everything into a crock pot (after you fry the ground beef):

CON QUESO DIP

2 Cans of Tomato soup
2 Cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup
2 Lbs. Velveeta
2 Lbs. Ground Beef
1/2 Pkg. Taco seasoning (recipe calls for full pkg. but that is too strong IMO)
1 Small Can of Green Chilies (they are not hot)

Fry ground beef, drain and mix everything together in crockpot til cheese is melted. Serve with Tostitos or fav chip! (It's great for dipping carrots too!) ENJOY! (This is a huge hit with teens also. Which, BTW, you would pass for one! :)) Have FUN at your party!

No Dessert is easier then THIS!

CHERRY COBBLER

Take a large can or 2 small cans of any pie filling...cherry is our fav! Put into 8 X 11 pan (I would double recipe and use a 13 X 9) Then, sprinkle a box of Jiffy White Cake Mix on top evenly...melt a stick of butter...I KNOW! :7) in microwave. Add approx 1/3- 1/2 C. of milk to the butter & stir. Pour over cake mix...there will be some cake mix exposed...no worries as it will not be after baked...bake in a 350* oven for approx 30-45 minutes til lightly browned. (Sorry, I never measure the milk but either will work. That is it....sooo good and comes out tasting sooo crunchy & buttery. I wonder WHY??? (Sometimes, I sprinkle walnuts on top before baking)

I get invited to these things all the time in my neighborhood. Something really popular around here are wine and cheese parties. Basically just buy a bunch of different types of crackers and cheese and have everyone bring their favorite bottle of wine to sample.

Here are some other ideas:

Red pepper hummus and pita chips

Spinach dip and crackers

KNORR SPINACH DIP

1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen chopped spinach, thawed (do not use fresh)
1 1/2 c. sour cream
1 c. mayonnaise (I use Hellmann's)
1 (4 oz.) pkg. Knorr vegetable soup mix
1 (8 oz.) can water chestnuts, finely chopped
3 green onions, finely chopped
Loaf of pumpernickel bread

Squeeze spinach until dry. In medium bowl, stir together spinach, sour cream and soup mix. Add finely chopped water chestnuts and green onions. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Cut slice from top of round loaf of pumpernickel bread, hollow out loaf to leave shell to contain dip. Use bread removed from shell and top slice to cut into bite size pieces. Butter inside of bread shell, fill loaf with dip and place on platter and surround with bread pieces and variety of raw vegetables.

Oh my god, how funny! I was actually planning on making that EXACT recipe! I love that spinach dip. Thanks for the ideas. I'll be sure to put out lots of lovely cheese and crackers too!

Allison

I would set out some nuts, wine, cheese and crackers with a fruit plate, some good chocolates and call it a day!
I entertain for our company alot, and these always feel "fancy" and yummy at the same time.
I will have to try all of those delicious ideas everyone gave you!:p

RE: No Dessert is easier then THIS!

How about Oreo Balls....no laughing at the name of them, either, until you try them! I got this recipe, maybe even from somebody on this site. EASY. DELISH!

In a food processor, process a package of Oreo cookies. Then toss in an 8 oz brick of cream cheese...process until it all comes together. Scoop and roll into balls. Refrigerate. Then you can do what you want with them. Sometimes, I just serve them like that in a dish. Sometimes I dip them in melted chocolate, and other times I just drizzle on melted chocolate (thru a zip loc bag with a corner cut out of it).

YUMMO!

Gayle

RE: No Dessert is easier then THIS!

Yeah Gayle Yeah! That sounds better than the oreo pizza...my DH bless his soul laughs uncontrollably at that commercial for Domino's Oreo Pizza! :) Thanks for the cool recipe! I am glad this thread was started, I love recipes.

Maybe all of the "Cathe" gals should make a cookbook! That would be fab!

Melissa!

We DID make a cookbook...actually, Shell-Belle did...let me see if I can find a link for you!
