Your Fave "Someone Ripped My Heart Out" Songs

RE: Your Fave

More than a few by Sarah McLaclan but the definitive on is 'Hold On', it came out when my DH was having lethal dose chemotherapy with stem cell transplant rescue. It described my day to day life to the letter. And did we ever praise each good day 'and love the light that brings a smile across your face'....

Hold On

Hold on
Hold on to yourself
for this is gonna hurt like hell
Hold on
Hold on to yourself
you know that only time will tell
What is it in me that refuses to believe
this isn't easier than the real thing
My love
you know that you're my best friend
you know I'd do anything for you
my love
let nothing come between us
my love for you is strong and true
Am I in heaven here or am I...
at the crossroads I am standing
So now you're sleeping peaceful
I lie awake and pray
that you'll be strong tomorrow and we'll
see another day and we will praise it
and love the light that brings a smile
across your face
Oh god if you're out there won't you hear me
I know that we've never talked before
oh god the man I love is leaving
won't you take him when he comes to your door
Am I in heaven here or am I in hell
at the crossroads I am standing
So now you're sleeping peaceful
I lie awake and pray
that you'll be strong tomorrow and we'll
see another day and we will praise it
and love the light that brings a smile
across your face...
Hold on
hold on to yourself
for this is gonna hurt like hell

---'Arms of the Angels' gets me too

---Leanne Rymes "How do I live" is also forever tied to the last few days of my DH's beautiful life, I used to just pull over and cry to it, now I just change the station...it's part of one of Cathe's cool downs but I just skip it.

----Sand and Water.....don't know the artist but, it certainly rips my heart out:-( :-(

---Beloved Wife, Natalie Merchant...

I could go on but I'm getting a bit maudlin here.....:)

RE: Your Fave

Laurie,

Your post brought tears to my eyes. That must have been so hard, and I am so sorry. You are so strong.

We are going through something very similar with a close friend right now.

I LOVE Sarah too, and they play the song "In the Arms of the Angels" during an Animal Planet Rescue commercial. I know it might sound silly, but I always sit there and bawl my eyes out!;(

Oh dear, let's start a new thread with songs that make us all happy, energized and cheery!:)

RE: Your Fave

My favorite song would be "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

RE: Your Fave

2 others- actually her entire album that these are from- India Arie

The first is These Eyes
Lyrics-

These Eyes never saw you leavin
This heart is in need of some healing
These arms are letting you go
Our life is the greatest story never told

How many more ways can I explain this to you boy
We had had this conversation several times before
I will except nothing less than your complete respect
If you cannot give me that then maybe I should step

These Eyes never saw you leavin
This heart is in need of some healing
These arms are letting you go
Our life is the greatest story never told

All this cryin all this fightin simply ain't my style
Though you're one of the most important people in my life
I love you from the day we met, I know you love me too
But at this point walking away is the best thing we can do

These Eyes never saw you leavin
This heart is in need of some healing
These arms are letting you go
Our life is the greatest story never told

Are we meant to be man and wife?
The answer I don't know
Of life's many mystery's what intrigues me the most
Is who our children would have been
[These Eyes lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

I guess we'll never know
Even as I walk away I'll always keep the hope

These Eyes never saw you leavin
This heart is in need of some healing
These arms are letting you go
That's life

That's the way the story goes
Truth is every relationship is a lesson
Truth is I saw it coming but it hurts anyway
Truth is I'm not the reason you're so angry
Truth is you're not the reason I'm so passive
Truth is I've got to take back my power
Truth is

The reason why it hurts so bad
to walk away from you

These Eyes I never saw you leavin
This heart my heart is in need of some healing
These arms, These arms are letting you go
That's life is the greatest story never told (2x)

Our love is the greatest story never told
Our life is the greatest story never told (2x)

And that's the way the story goes...

:) :) :) :)

The second is Wings of Forgiveness- very poignant! Just depends on the reason for the breakup.

"Wings Of Forgiveness"

I just want you to know
After everything that we've been through
I just want you to know
That I still love you
That I still love you:

Had to go
Across the water
Just to find
What was here in my heart all along
Spend so much time
Trying to be right
That I was dead wrong

If Nelson Mandela can forgive his oppressors
Surely I can forgive you for your passion

You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment
And fly high, and fly high
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment
And fly high on the wings of forgiveness

Had to run
To the arms of curiosity
Just to find
What was here in my life all along
I had found that the art of simplicity
Simply means making peace of your complexity

If Gandhi can forgive persecution
Surely you can forgive me for being so petty

I'm only human
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment
And fly high, and fly high
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment
And fly high on the wings of forgiveness

I've searched for romance
Flowers and affection
What I found is a lesson
Of what love really is
Found the game of love is
Not about how much you can take
In fact authentic love is about
How much you can give

After everything that we've been through
I just want you to know
That I still love you
I want you to know
That I forgive you
(thank you for teaching how to give)
And I wanna let you know how much you changed my life
I wanna let you know you taught me how to fly
And I wrote this song to tell you this
I'm better cuz you taught me how to give

I took a swim
In the sea of guilt and misery
To find myself in an island
In the middle of nowhere
In my solitude
I asked to know the highest truth
And what I was told
Is to let own self be true

If Jesus can forgive crucifixion
Surely we can survive and find resolution

Let's keep it moving
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment
And fly high, and fly high
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment
And fly high, and fly high
Let's keep it moving
Let's shake free this gravity of commitment
And fly high on the wings of forgiveness

After everything that we've been through
I just want you to know
That I still love you
I want you to know
That I still love you
And I wanna let you know how much you changed my life
I wanna let you know you taught me how to fly
And I wrote this song to tell you this
I'm better cuz you taught me how to give

I still love you
I want you to know
I still love you
Want you to know
I still love you
(And I always will love you)
And I wanna let you know
I forgive you
I wanna let you know
That I still love you
Want you to know
I still love you
I just want you to know
I still love you
Want you to know
I still love you
Want you to know
I still love you
And I wanna let you know
I forgive you
I wanna let you know
I still love you

RE: Your Fave

Thanks for you kind thoughts and words tneah and Cody:) 'Rip Your Heart Out' songs are a gift because they let us know that others have felt the pain we feel and turned it into something beautiful. We've got to keep balance though, sometimes you just have to crank up 'Love Shack' or 'Ray of Light' and dance your fool head off:7

RE: Your Fave

Mine is not associated with a break up, but does remind me of a loss of love. I first noticed the lyrics while driving to my mother's to help make funeral arrangements for my brother after his suicide.

Makes me smile and cry every time I hear it.

Pacing the Cage: Bruce Cockburn

Sunset is an angel weeping
Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what it's pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like you live too long
Days drip slowly on the page
You catch yourself
Pacing the cage

I've proven who I am so many times
The magnetic strip's worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And every one was taken in
Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage

I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing
It's as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later you'll wind up
Pacing the cage

Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You can't see what's round the bend
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage
Pacing the cage

RE: Your Fave

I love that song too. It makes me wonder about her subject. I always picture her with a beloved mentor who has developed alzheimer's.

RE: Your Fave

When The Spell is Broken by Richard Thompson

When the spell is broken
When the spell is broken
How you ever gonna keep her now
You can't cry if you don't know how
When the spell is broken
When the spell is broken
All the joy is gone from her face
Welcome back to the human race
How long can the flame
Of love remain
When you curse and fight
And never see like
Or hear like spoken
When the spell is broken
(Can't cry if you don't know how)
(Can't cry if you don't know how)
When the spell is broken
(Can't cry if you don't know how)
Oh when the spell is broken
All your magic and your ways and schemes
All your lies come and tear at your dreams
When the spell is broken
(Can't cry if you don't know how)
When the spell is broken
Now you're handing her that same old line
It's just straws in the wind this time
When love has died,
There's none starry-eyed
No kiss, no tears,
No farewell souvenirs
Not even a token, when the spell is broken

Don't swear your heart
From the very start
Love letters you wrote
Are pushed back down you throat
And leave you choking, when the spell is broken
(When the spell, When the spell, When the spell is broken)
When the spell is broken
When the spell is broken
(When the spell, When the spell, When the spell is broken)
When the spell is broken
When the spell is broken

RE: Your Fave

"I don't want to miss a thing", by Aerosmith
"you will always be my baby", by Maria Carey.

Saddest thing I ever saw was a video made for my SIL after she had her twins at 23 weeks. The first part of the video was her son and her in the hospital set to Aerosmith's song, because he passed away after two weeks. The next part of the video was set to the Maria Carey song and it was all about Madison, who lived. I have tears thinking of it now. It was a long time since I've seen the video, but I blubbered like an idiot the whole way through. BTW Madison is almost nine now, she's got some issues, but she made it!
