Yoga Videos

Can someone recommend good yoga videos for beginners to advanced? I've been having some knee problems so I would like to start cutting back on impact workouts and start incorporating yoga into my workouts. There are so many videos out there...how to choose?

Has anyone done "Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyond"? What is your opinion?

Thanks in advance.
:)

i like shiva rea, baron baptiste, and bryan kest workouts. i have a variety of others like bodywisdommedia.com 's yoga complete for everyone(this has 60+ premix practices for all levels and times) and a few denise austin's when i want something short. i alos have caribbean workout yoga videos which i rather enjoy and they are also short and more beg/int. the others are for all levels.

I have and really like the Ali McGraw Yoga Mind and Body (I think that's the title) and the Yoga Journal ones with Rodney Yee. I really like them.

I have done Kundalini Yoga for beginners and beyond, love it, love ALL the Ravi and Ana DVD's. They are challenging in a very unusual way. I especially love their Yoga Cleanse DVD. As for the beginners and beyond, the five tibetans section is great and I always feel younger after doing it!

I also have some knee issues, so I have to go light from time to time. Enjoy!

I also love Rodney Yee (although some seem exceptionally long-90 minutes!). Have you heard of Crunch Fitness Fat Burning Yoga with Sara Ivanhoe? I love this one (although I wouldn't call it a serious fat burner- LOL). It does challenge you, though, and Sara has beginner to advanced models in the background. Take care:)

I've done Sara Ivanhoe's yoga from FitTV. I liked her instructions. Thanks for the info. I've done Ashtanga yoga years ago and I need to get back on the yoga wagon.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Bryan Kest has a Power Yoga dvd with 3 workouts on it...each 45-60 minutes long. He guides you through each to make it as "beginner" or "advanced" as you want. All 3 workouts are really fun! A lot of bang for your buck.

Yes, Eric Schiffman is the instructor on the Ali McGraw tape. He's great. Gives really great instruction/direction and has a great, soothing voice. I wish I could get this on tape - he could easily put me to sleep at the end of the workout.

I highly recommend, "Yoga Short Forms" the practice, with David Swenson. It's based on Ashtanga yoga and has 15,30 &45 minute routines, from beginner to imtermediate. It also has a 10 minute deep relaxation segment. David is a wonderful instructor, who is easy to follow and has a soothing voice. I have several yoga DVD's and David's is by far the best.

My favorite Ravi & Ana's are Total Bliss Hips, Yoga Beauty Body, the Chakra Yoga Set on Dance the Chakra's, A Journey thru the Chakras. Beginners and Beyond is also good -- just be aware that Kundalini is very different than traditional yoga. I am staring to use Yoga Cleanse more and more and like it also, as well as the other Fat Free Yoga's (wow - I guess I like a lot of Ravi & Ana's).

My favorite traditional yoga's are:

Rainbeau Mars Yoga for Beauty Set - Dusk & Dawn. They compliment each other. They are geared towards beginners and are great for days when you are down and just want to do something to make you feel good....not real strenuous but not totally restorative either. They have a nice balance.

Altar of the Heart with Tilak Pyle is a wonderful video available at his website or Fitness Organica and is another one that is not particulary difficult but makes you feel great.

Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti is a very versatile DVD with tons of footage shot on a sand dune in the Maldives Islands and is gorgeous. It has a Matrix or preset practices to chose form and the level goes from beg to adv. Lovely DVD.

I also love anything by Eion Finn. He's a bit more difficult. His Power Yoga for Happiness is a wonderful DVD with 6 premixes on it.....my fave is Magically Hips and it is wonderful for us Catheites. He also has another DVD called Pure & Simple Yoga that I like a lot and it's only 40-45" so it's easy to fit in. Eion's website is www.Vancouveryoga.com if you want to check him out. He also has some free downloads that are available that are very good.

For a tougher yoga session, I always turn to Bryan Kest (he has some 90 minute audio sessions on CD that are tough - plus the above posters DVD listings that are shorter) and Mark Blanchard is really tough. Most of his practices are 90 minutes or so. His website is www.ProgressivePowerYoga.com. Some of his stuff is available at Collage where you can preview it also.
Good luck with your practice and I hope it helps you with your functional fitness, etc. I love yoga.....and can't seem to even get a really good stretch without doing an hour yoga session any more!

I like Baron Baptiste. I have his Long and Lean Yoga and Journey into Power 2. I love them both. There is also a Journey into Power 1 which is not as advanced as 2.
