Yippee!!! I need a new step!!!

Oh.. um.. I mean.. sadly, I believe that the days are numbered for my beloved Reebok Step. I've had it since the year of the flood (or so it seems), and I think that Cathe's "Power 15's" are finally wearing it out. Those cracking and creaking noises are getting a bit louder, and they just do NOT sound healthy. ::sniffle:: Sheesh... getting sentimental over my first step here... LOL

Okay, so what does this mean? Time to SHOP!!!!!!! My question to all of you is, which step?? I was planning to get the classic club step that Cathe uses in almost all of her videos. And then... I saw the S&H Superstep. Has anyone had experience using both of these? Any recommendations? My tendancy is to think that the classic step might be more versatile (depending on how many risers I purchase), but the truth is, I haven't really used either of them. I did use the classic step for a few step aerobics classes at the gym, back in the day, but never for weight training and all of the fancy moves that Cathe has taught me.

I'd really appreciate any input from all of you. I've read enough posts to know that this is the place to come for advice when making any big decisions regarding Cathe or working out, in general. Thanks for all of the great info, everyone, and thanks in advance for the step shopping advice!

Michelle :)

P.S. I had a few of Cathe's older step workouts and an unopened PS series for a while, but about 2 weeks after finding this forum and reading your posts, I was convinced that I HAD to sell my old tapes and take the plunge! So, I received Cathe's DVD collection last week, and have been rotating through each and every workout. I LOVE Power Hour! And I LOVE working out with Cathe! I'm currently finishing up the last couple of workouts of CTX, and I just can't wait to see what she has in store for me each morning! If I could do ALL of her videos in one shot, without putting myself in the hospital, I would do it! I'm just dying to try them all!! So, anyway.. I just wanted to say that I am grateful for finding this forum. My feelings towards working out have changed drastically, and it's no longer something that I dread. Sorry this post got so so long, but in a nutshell... thanks everyone -- especially Cathe!! :)

I'd buy the Club Step (the ones Cathe uses for aerobic) instead of the Super Step (in Power Hour/Slow + Heavy). As you said, it is more versatile with extra risers. Super Step can only be used as an aerobic step without the risers (I think about 5.5"). So basically you are stuck at 5.5" height during aerobic stepping. With the other, I could go various heights - 4" during learning new step workout, 6" during regular step aerobic and 8" if I really want an intense one (not lately, though).

You can get the step at www.fitness1st.com for $65 + shipping. Additional risers are cheaper at www.spriproducts.com ($15/pr + shipping). Super Step at www.karenvoight.com for $90 + shipping.

Hi Michelle!

I agree that the Club Step is a better step for stepping. I have both and use my SuperStep for weightwork but I feel my Club Step is more stable for stepping. Sorry to hear you are NOT too excited about your new Cathe tapes! ;-) Have FUN!

Club Step

I use the full size club step for stepping and weight workouts and I love it. I also have the small home version of the step, but I haven't used it since I "found" Cathe. I briefly considered getting the super step, but I can't justify the "need" for it to my husband (or myself) yet, anyway! It seems like I've got fitness equipment spread out through the entire house! I do think I'll purchase some extra risers though. I really do need them! ;-)
Have fun shopping for your new step!

How many risers?

I know, I know.. storing another step, just for weight work is a bit extravagant for me, too. I was wondering... how many risers is best to build up the height of the club step for weight work? I know the step comes with two sets, but I plan on ordering extra risers also. Any ideas on what works best? Thanks again!

Michelle :)
