YIKES...Sugary Protein Bar!!!!

I like to buy different protein bars so I don't get tired of eating the same ones all the time. Anyhow, bought The Balance protein bars this week, 24 in a box, to be exact!! I didn't read the back label because most protein bars are not high in sugar unless you get the Snickers Marathon kind which I think is just junk anyways (JMHO). Well The Balance protein bars have 13 grams of sugar in them...ooh, la, la! Not good, so should I eat one before my workouts or after? If after, I am thinking that sugar is going to go straight for my butt. I don't know, I am just frustrated and any advice would be appreciated.

Wow that is a lot for that bar. If I had bought just one or two I probably would just eat it but since it is the whole box I think I would either return them. Maybe just freeze them if it is only a box of six and one day when you run out or are desperate for chocolate have them on hand. I have bought balance before and never looked at that either. I just went into the kitchen to check mine. I have atkins choc decadent (love it) 17 g of protein and 0g of sugar. Since you workout so hard I wouldn't take it unless like I said there was nothing eles to eat. Saw your thread on your bf going down if you have any pointers or did something different let me no Please. Karen

I've always heard and read that if you're going to take in simple carbs, the best time to do it is the post-workout meal (I've actually read it can be good to do this!). The simple carbs cause an insulin spike, and insulin unlocks all the cells in your body (including muscle) so that nutrients (like protein) can enter the cell. Also, because of post-workout burn, you'll get rid of that little bit of sugar relatively easily.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Silly me, opened up the box and started crunching on the bar...though, wow this one really taste pretty good...hmmm, maybe too good. That is when I checked the back label off box. SUGAR!!! Alittle too late. I won't be able to return the entire box of 24 since I already nibbled on the one bar so I am stuck with it. DH thinks I might be o.k. if that is all the sugar I intake for the day, but I am not too sure as I think my bf will go up unless I do more workouts in the day which I just don't have time for, and since DH just started Atkins, he won't be eating them. I guess I will just list them on Ebay with my Victoria's Secret Bras this week.

Where did you buy them. I know that Hi-Health is really good about letting you return anything if you don't like it or if it's not what you expected. I would try to return them and get something different.
