Xers..Xers..Xers Saturday

Hi all,

I never got back yesterday. I ended up going to Costco with DS girl friend (the overweight one) to help her get some healthy food. She is going to Curves and is on a diet! I am so excited for her. We are going to cook up some nutritionally healthy food today. So at least for the time being, I have younger DS, and both girl friends thinking and trying to eat healthy. DS commented the other day that it’s easy to talk about, and much harder to do.

I ended up doing Power Hour yesterday and that was it. The workout gets a lot done in a little amount of time. The actual workout is only 45 minutes. I’m definitely getting stronger because I was able to go above Cathe on all of the weights and still complete all of the reps. One more time doing GS for strength and then it is a recovery week.

Annointed - Are you feeling better yet? You really should be after 3-4 days of antibiotics, otherwise they may not be working. I know how miserable tooth pain is. I waited over a week before I went to the dentist with my cracked wisdom tooth because I had a sinus infection at the same time. I lived on Advil, but luckily was able to get the teeth extracted the next day. Sorry you have to wait until the 20th.

Sandra – Did you do B&G overall legs? I thought I was going to die when she did that floorwork sequence twice. Needless to say, I’ve only done that premix once. It is amazing how professors put off reading dissertations. I am assuming that you are still paying for each semester? At GW, we had to pay for 12 dissertation hours, then after that it went to 1 credit per semester. It’s kind of a joke.

Wendy – I’m SO glad you are back! How was it not having access to technology for a few days? Did you get more done? For me, I use Eion for calm easy stretching, Shiva Fluid Power for core and power, Shiva Shakti, for a little of both, B. Kest tone for strength. On both of Shiva’s dvds she has a variety of meditation sequences, which are very nice. I personally love the Prana stuff.

Debra – I totally agree about the P90X pictures. I was laughing as I read your comments. I also was happy that you put in print what I was thinking! I think that the more improvement you have to make the faster improvement goes. It’s when you get to the final stages that it is much harder to get the desired results; ie. the last 5 lbs etc.

Swifty – Glad you got your shoes. I just love NB. I’ve had no foot problems since I started wearing them.

Cheryl – Enjoy your trip.

Laurie – I don’t envy you having girls. I think for the most part, boys are much easier.

Jeanette – I hope the camping trip is fun. Does it get cold enough at night to be pleasant? We are weenie campers. It has to get at least cool at night, and no rain. We did one night of rain in Vermont and that was enough.

Off to get another cup of coffee.

Good morning,

I'm frumpled this morning. Tired and not at all enthusiastic about anything. Yes, it's Day Two of TTOM, and I always have an attitude problem at this time. Today I'm supposed to do DrillMax cardio blast premix, which is fine with me because I love the DM cardio (blast #1 and #2 I could do without, but I'll get through them).

I was just reading the post on OD about whether you "have" to run, even if you don't like it. Made me want to put on a cardio coach and head out the door. Not at all the kind of feedback the poster wanted, so I didn't say anything :)

I'm liking the July '07 rotation, except for the almost complete lack of upper body weight work. I did BM2 upper body weights on Tuesday, and there's no more scheduled until at least 12 days later. I think today I'm going to do GS CST after the DM cardio blast, and then add GS BSB on Monday, after the LIC cardio blast workout.

The yoga went well for the first week. I still haven't done the 1 hr 48 min Backbend Flow on the Fluid Power dvd, but I will do that tomorrow. I think for next week I will make up my own sequences from the FP and YS dvds.

Anointed - I'm shocked to see you starting our thread on a Saturday! Having the internet at home is great for us! How are those meds working? I'm shaking my head that the dentist is making you wait until Monday before changing them? It doesn't sound like they're working the way they should. How are you feeling today?

TracyX - Are you sure your post wasn't from TraciX? You sound positively excited and happy today. I love that you're helping the girlfriends and your son get on track with healthy eating. Keep us posted on their experience. Was this the son who did BC the other day? Has he come back asking for more? I agree with you on Power Hour - it packs a punch. I love the shoulder routine ("Bam! You're done!"). It always surprises me that more people don't complain about the bicep routine, it's so similar to ME, and people moan about that one all the time. No, I didn't do BG overall legs premix....that one has the double floorwork, too? Good thing to know what to avoid for the future ;) I did the premix: Floorwork and abs. Silly me, thought it was going to be the same as the regular workout, just without the standing leg work. Nope. She adds in the glute squeezes on the ball, makes you do the hamstring roll-ins twice (don't mind those), and all those leg lifts twice (why where they easier the second time through?). You might want to flag this one as something to avoid :) Actually, for my griping, I'm pleased that I've been doing so much floorwork lately because I think I managed very well with this one. I let my university registration slide last year. I got tired of paying tuition 2x a year for absolutely nothing. I was told by a few people that, should the thesis ever get done, I can reregister (may have to pay a large fee to do so, but whatever) and defend. At least this way, if I never get to defense, I don't feel like I'm throwing thousands of dollars away at the same time. Agh. This whole things p**sses me off, so I'm going to stop talking about it. I'm feeling very contrary this morning. I don't want to do *anything* that's on my to-do list...not even the stuff I like. I'm going to go sit on my brand new almost-finished deck, sip the rest of my coffee, and contemplate life.

BBL,
Sandra

Hi Sandra -

I had to comment on the running thread because I really feel that you have to push yourself to do things that you don't like in order to reach new levels of fitness. If that is not your goal, and maintenance is, then no need to push. I really believe that a lot of the time, people choose workouts that they're comfortable with, and don't necessarily challenge our fitness levels. Which is why I rarely do KM.JMO. A lesson for me from the x.

Which leads me to the fact that I felt very frumpled yesterday. I was slightly sore all over from doing CF. I forced myself to do PH and was actually able to go pretty heavy, so you just never know; another lesson I learned from the x.

I haven't been able to stick with the floorwork. I think it's been 2 weeks since I've done any:( I also think that although the leg raises while laying on your side help the saddle bag area, they tend to hollow me out in the side of the glute, which doesn't look so good (excuse # 27 for not doing floorwork).

I haven't done any of the flows as produced on Fluid Power. I always use the matrix. I did the standing flow day before yesterday ( along with the 2nd and 3rd sequences under the hip opening matrix, plus the 14 minute backbending flow. The standing flow is just ingeneious. It is 27 minutes of leg and upper body toning, well spent, but then I think the entire time was well spent. I just love that dvd.

Off to do something, although I really don't feel like doing anything constructive. I might go ride my bike today, but it is still supposed to be in the high 90s and the humidity has been oppressive. It may be a run instead.

Hi to all who follow.

Tracy

Hi,
Just finished Cardio & Compound Weights premix, 47 minutes as called for in the May '07 rotation.

Sandra, 2nd day of TTOM for me also, been feeling more breathless during cardio lately, think it's the heat. Enjoy that coffee on your new deck. Bet it's really nice.

Tracy, high 90's and humidity, what a killer! It's pretty dry out west here so I really don't have personal experience with humidity problems, thank goodness. Hope you have a good bike ride today, if that's what you choose. I'm sure it will be cool at night up where we are going. I packed our heavier sleeping bags and an extra blanket. Plus, we have 2 dogs to keep us warm, though the dachshund doesn't contribute a whole lot.

Anointed, how's that tooth today? Antibiotics kicked in yet? I surely hope so. My temp crown has already come off. I forgot and ate a Viactiv calcium chew and off it came. I shoved it back on and it stays in place okay (it's on a molar), but has a nasty taste to it. I don't get the permanent one until the 28th of this month.

Must get DH up to load the Rhino, I need a shower and we will be taking off. Be back tomorrow night.

Hi to everyone else,

Jeanette

Hey gang,

I must be feeling a bit better, got up this morning and washed a load of clothes. Any who tooth is still aching but not as bad if I drink or eat anything then the PAIN comes, I have to hurry to rinse my mouth put Orajel on tooth then take pain pill, crazy isn’t it. But believe me I haven’t missed one meal and ate some sweets bad I know, but my dog gone sweet tooth is still working.

I'm about to lay down for a few hours, I have the whole day to do what ever I want and believe me today is a do nothing day, probably wont leave my house. I brushed Ted off not feeling him or wanting to be around him feeling the way I do.

This morning, hour jog on TM, BB abs and later I’m doing P90X chest and back cant wait. Okay off to rest, bbl

Back again. Still no workout done, but I did knead up some bread. Took me almost an hour of kneading, 800+ strokes, but the counting and the motion felt soothing.

I should have said I'm on Day 3 of TTOM, as it started Weds afternoon, and I should have known I would feel like crap today. It happens every Day 3. JeanetteX, we're almost in sync! You're feeling blah too, huh?

I went out on the deck for about 3 minutes, but it was too chilly to sit there. So I came back inside and flipped through my workout binder. Today I need fun. I also need steady state. I'm going to do Step Blast, which is my favourite steady state, and I haven't done it in months. Then I'm going to get some upper body work in by doing PP upper body (once), followed by SS upper body (once). That should do the trick. I'm not sure if I'll continue with the July '07 rotation next week. I'm just not happy with the piddly amount of upper body work. I don't know. Today's really not the best day to make decisions.

TracyX - I agree with you on the 27 min standing poses flow. I love that arrangement. Every pose just feels good. In fact, I don't think there's a segment on the whole dvd I don't enjoy. Even if I don't continue with the July '07 rotation, I'm definitely going to continue to make time for yoga add-ons on a daily basis. On the running thread: I completely agreed with your assessment. Often times activities feel awful to us because we're being overly ambitious in our expectations. If you're just starting out a running program, hill repeats isn't the place to start! Obviously you need to challenge yourself, and get out of your comfort zone to see some progress, but you can't over do it, or you start to dread and avoid the whole thing. You need to find your "intelligent edge" :) . Are you inferring that running in the heat and humidity is not as hard as cycling? Wow. I would have thought the opposite, because when you're riding you're at least getting a breeze to help cool you off.

JeanetteX - Oh dear, you lost your crown? That will teach you to go up hills and fetch pails of water LOL! I hope it doesn't bother you too bad between now and the 28th. That's a really nice premix you did today. The breathlessness is likely a result of the hormone shift (and certainly the heat and humidity doesn't help). I can't remember the exact cocktail, but when your period arrived, one of your hormone levels plunged (the estrogen or the progesterone, or both, can't remember), and this creates the breathless feeling. You will gradually get it back over the next week. When I was pregnant with DD I did a lot of reading about hormones and exercise. One of the first signs of pregnancy women experience is breathlessness, and it's due to the hormonal changes. I can feel a tightness in my chest this morning, too.

Well, I'd better go do my workout before I lose all motivation whatsoever. I always answer Cathe when she says "We had a blast! I hope you did, too!". Usually, the answer is "Yes!"

Cheers,

SandraX

May 07' Premix Rotation

Cardio & Weights "Cardio & Compound Weights Only" Premix (48 min)

Getting ready to start my workout and wanted to say a quick HI! first. At this rate you all are going to forget about me:( Today is the rehearsal dinner for the wedding and I still haven't purchased DS's shirt. That is on tab today as well as the grocery store. Hope I can get back to say a decent hello:p

Good Afternoon Ladies!

I never got around to doing ME. A neighbor stopped over unexpectedly to check out the kitchen remodel and felt the need to stay and chat. That's okay. I'll do ME as soon as I finish posting. I think I'll skip DM and do Cardio Fusion tomorrow morning or later tonight instead.

Teddygirl: It's so nice to see you on a Saturday! Don't ya just love being connected at home! I missed having my computer while away. When I go to the State College area, I find myself thinking that I could search (insert whatever) if I had my computer. But, when I get home, I totally forget what it was that I wanted to find! LOL Ewww! Tooth ache sounds painful! Take it easy! If it gets too bad, you might want to call the dentist before Monday to see if there's anything else you can take before you see him again.

Tracy-X: LOL on your ds's comment! Tell him I said, "Just imagine how much harder it would be to eat cleaner without a Tracy in the house then he'd be living my life!":7 I think it's wonderful when people in your life take steps to live healthier. You are a force of positive energy!!! Thank you for the yoga recommendations for different goals. Right now, I only have Eoin and Shiva Shakti. I'll have to invest in a couple more in the near future. I'm impressed with your PH workout! I don't feel as strong now as when I was doing the X. Most likely, I lost strength this past month with everything that has happened; everything except working out! I have to keep reminding myself how far I've come. I wished y'all could have seen me back in Jan of this year. Even people I hardly see notice a difference in my appearance. Maybe, it's the glow of sweat!:7 Oh! You are so right about pushing outside your comfort zone!!!! I hate core work, but I know deep down inside that's a red flag that I need to do it. I also hate high intensity cardio. I talk myself out of it by saying that I'm busy learning combos to do the blasts. But, that's not entirely true. I think I've just talked myself into doing Cardio Fusion tonight! LOLOLOL OH! Thank you for the leg raises observation!!! I have that exact problem too!!!!!!!! The sides of my glutes are hollowed out looking! I want to raise the middle thutt area not hollow out my sides even more. So, what do you suggest I do? Pay a plastic surgeon to go in there and stitch those muscles into place!}( I hope you know I'm not serious!!!:7

Sandra-X: Well, I dare say! I believe you are normal!:p I was beginning to think that your monthly hormones didn't effect you one teensy weensy itty bit! Contrary! I love that word! I remember reading a story titled Miss. Contrary to eldest dd when she was 5. Whenever she acts like a little Miss. Know It All, I ask her if she's a Miss. Contrary. It stops her dead in her tracks! I LOVE the story. It's in one of the Uncle Arthur Bedtime Stories. Her father takes his dd to the city. All the while, he tries to teach her about where she is and what to do if she gets lost. But, she keeps interrupting him and tells him she already knows. Well, he pretends to lose her and watches what she does. The police officer knows the plan. At first, she's so prideful that she won't even ask for help. Finally, she meets the policeman. He asks her questions about where were they going and what were they going to do, etc. When she realizes that she should have listened to her father's instructions and that she really doesn't know everything, she finally breaks down sobbing. That's when her father, who has been watching her the entire time, goes to comfort her. Lesson learned. Oh! If it were so easy like in the stories!!! sigh. So, you're feeling a bit contrary today? Welcome to my world!}( :7 ;-) That's how I felt when I was reading the post on modifications on Ask Cathe. I won't repeat what I was thinking. I do admire Cathe for exhibiting extreme grace. You are wise to add in a little something for upperbody. LOL on finding zen in kneading! My dh knows to watch out if I break out singing a hymn while frantically cleaning! ;-)

Jeanette-X: I probably missed you already. Hope you are having a great time camping with dh!

Nicole-X: Don't be silly!!! We could never forget about you. Okay, fine! I did forget to post a personal to you yesterday. I'm only human! Do know that I think about you during my day! Have a great time at the rehearsal dinner. BTW, who's getting married?

Well, I've procrastinated LONG enough! Hi to Debra (slept in?), Amy, Amy-X, Cheryl, Traci (hope Sandy is doing better with the stairs), Laurie, and anyone else I might have accidentally forgot. See, I'm still procrastinating!

Ballistic Hugs to ALL!
Wendy

Hi all,

I ended up going cross country biking with Dh for a couple of hours. Then I came in and ate 2 bowls of mashed cauliflower and now I feel sick. DSs GF is coming over to make some soup. That will be fun.

Wendy - I really do think that the leg raises hollow out the side of my rear. I just don't need that. I look better when it is more rounded. My solution is not to do them.

Annointed - I hope you feel better. I know how miserable that is. There is just no getting away from the pain.

Off to clean up.

Tracy

Workout done!! And yes, I had a BLAST!!! Today's workout was exactly what I needed: fun, sweaty, and covering all the bases. Well, except core, but I'm feeling my core very well from yesterday, so that's fine with me. I think I'm going to try one of Shiva's routines from her Creative Core Abs dvd. I've never tried that dvd yet. I like the Water Core she does on the Fluid DVD.

TracyX - I was thinking about how the Fluid DVD is almost constant motion. You do hardly anything in a static way, not even downward dog (not sure if I do the undulation correctly, but I like the way it feels). I was reminded of the Jell-o commercial where the people are jiggling all around to some funky music, and then they form themselves into the letters J.E.L.L.O, still wiggling around. Made me laugh, anyway.

Anointed - You're incredible: doing such tough workouts when you're feeling so bad. Please don't overdo it.

NicoleX - You will always be missed, but never forgotten!!! Don't worry about that! It's unrealistic to expect that everyone is able to participate 100% every day. Life keeps us all busy, at one time or another. Remember Back In The Day, before email and the internet, when we would use all this time to do other things?? Those other things didn't suddenly disappear, and still require our attention. Speaking of which: I missed anything you've posted about a wedding. Who's getting married? Is DS in the wedding party?

WendyX - Aaaahhh, lovely to see you! You've been so good about catching up with all the discussions you missed. If I tried that, I'd eventually get overwhelmed, and quit the forums. So, I'm just trying to do my best.....I had to go back and reread my post. So, I used the word 'contrary', did I? "Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With cockle shells and silver bells, all in a row." Not sure what that really means. Are cockle shells and silver bells not supposed to be planted in the same row? Or do I have my flowers mixed up? Silver bells belong in the Christmas carole, not a nursery rhyme, don't they? Whatever. See what happens when I start to type without censure? It's like a literary litmus test. About the Miss Contrary story. I can see the point of the story, but I swear it's stuff like that that sends our kids to therapists when they're older. She'll never be able to trust her father again! I'd be furious with my parents if they played a trick like that on me, and I know my own DD would never forgive me for needlessly traumatizing her that way. Ah, who am I kidding? My kids will end up in therapy just by virtue of having had a nut-job for a mother. I cracked up at your dream the other day. I've dreamt of Cathe, and various Catheites, too. I promise I would never ignore you. I don't think you would let any of us ignore you. Of course, having 6-month old twin babies with you would guarantee that you would get loads of attention, so perhaps that's why you brought them? About your workout today: You do realize, don't you, that Cardio Fusion is WAY harder than DM? Just thought I'd ask...All the workouts you're planning are high on the fun scale, though. My glutes are hollow, too, and I thought that was supposed to be a good thing??

It's turned into an overcast, miserably drizzly day. The deck won't get finished today, boo hoo. The bread looks terrific, though. I'm going to go start drafting my report.

Cheers,
SandraX

Tracy-X: :7 :7 :7 LOL on your solution! I meant, what do you do for a more rounded look! Pray tell!!!

Sandra-X: You crack me up! Don't worry. My dc will be right there alongside everyone else's grown children when they go to therapy. I can hear eldest dd already -- Yes, my mother wouldn't buy me the complete volume of Lizzy McQuire chapter books. Instead, she made me read William Bennet's Book of Virtures. She's evil! LOLOLOL Relax, type without censure! I do ALL the time! Gets me into trouble sometimes too!!! (see Ask Cathe) I remember teaching that nursery rhyme to my dds when they were little. It had background information and an art activity. My mind is too muddled with useless information to recall any of it except the painting mess! If I wasn't too lazy, I'd go through boxes of old curriculum to find it. Sorry, I'm too lazy! Oh, NO! I didn't realize that CF was harder than DM. CF looks to be more fun though. So, CF it will be if I get my second wind. I suppose a hollowed out side glute is to be desired. However, I'd rather focus on lifting that glute from the rear!!! Glad you got a feel good workout in today! Sounds like it blasted your mood to a less contrary mood. Wish working out had the same effect on me! }(

Gotta go and clean some more!

Ballistic Hugs to All!

DH is distracted by Shark Week on the Discovery channel:)

TracyX, Sounds like a productive trip to Costco yesterday. I'm surprised with all of your healthy eating and fitness mindset that your sons are dating girls with eating issues. You must be proud at least that they must like these girls for there inside beauty and not their physical fitness. Still it must be tough for you to see them struggling with this issue at such a young age. So nice of you to help them with it:) PH is a good one. I think I have it on next months rotation. LOL on the floorwork loathing:) I dread it as well but for me it works well.
Does mashed cauliflower taste anything like mashed potatoes? Where are you going on vacation? I do hope DH can get the FIL situation figured out soon. My DH lost one of his expensive binoculars and he was grouchy at everyone so I can imagine what your DH is like with all of the stress.

SandraX, If you are adding on yoga to the July rotation, I wouldn't worry as much about the lack of UB in the rotation. Yoga really leans out the upper body and tones it nicely. I am addicted to yoga and feel so good when it's done:) Have fun with PP/SS! My cousin is getting married. DS is the ring bearer. There is a two-year old as well so he will be the helper:) Yummy, bread! It has been a little too hot for baking as of late.

JeanetteX, Have fun in the woods with DH! Are you enjoying the rotation? C&W kicked my butt a little this morning. The cardio is very fast paced but that's how I like it. Get in, get out:D Glad you had the new garage door installed! No more burgular type entrance for you:)

Anointed, Nice workout today! Aren't you do for a recovery week soon? You are kicking your butt, that's for sure:)

WendyX, Hey, if your neighbor gets to see your kitchen remodel, can't we?:) My cousin is getting married. It's actually my DH's cousin but I've known her since she was 14. She is marrying into a wealthy family so I'm a bit daunted by the people that will be there:p So, the trooper must have been thrown off by your beauty:) Way to go Wendy!!!!

Traci-X, Hope you are enjoying the bay and Sandy is too:)

LaurieXX, LOL! Your post yesterday was quite entertaining:) Did your boss know he had a green band around his head? Men! I had slight DOMS that would have been worse had I not done yoga later that day. I would not volunteer to do that premix again, it was tough! So glad you are feeling good about your push-ups! Tony definitely helped with that:)

Debra, Missed you today! Is your BFF there yet? I would guess so because you always beat me to the boards. Yes, I see now you are antiquing! Enjoy your dinner and the girl time. My BFF and I are on the oute at the moment due to her lack of wisdom in the man department. She is such a fluzy when it comes to commitment and it's driving me insane. We have been friends for 31 years so it's sad. I'm glad your toes are polished again. Of course, as a manicurist, I would feel that way:D

Cheryl, So happy for you and your career! Sounds like all is well and fate has dealt you a nice hand:) It's almost RT time!!:D I wish I could go with all of you.

I'm so glad, I'm finished and DH is still watching Shark Week:):)

I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

Hi all,

Nicole - Glad DH is busy:)Nothing worse than when they are in bad moods, it seeps onto everyone in the house. Although my DH will never admit that it is him; it's always everyone else. No mashed cauliflower doesn't taste like potatoes, but it is a different way to get the veggie down. Dh won't eat it, but I was thinking of trying to shape it into patties and brown them. It is very difficult to watch poor eating from both DSs' girlfriends. I've seen both extremes: almost anorexic to the exact opposite. It's interesting, because the one who is most overweight is the most grounded. I just keep trying to help everyone get on track with their eating. Glad you have become addicted to yoga. It is such a good thing to be addicted to, and beneficial in so many ways.

Sandra - If I saw myself in a mirror, I would probably be very disappointed by the way my poses look. I feel better though, and for me that is all that matters. I was actually thinking about trying to find someone for a lesson or two to critique my yoga. I'm very stiff in the left hip / groin area. It's the last issue I have from my herniated discs, but it's not going away easily and I have difficulty sleeping some nights. I agree with Nicole, the yoga will help with the upper body tone. It has really helped me.

Wendy - I know, I was being a smart a$$ about the solution for the hollow butt. Mine is not hollow now. I was actually worrying a little about the firewalkers, because I feel them in that area. I don't do them often enough to make any difference. Maybe you can ask Cathe. Glad you are back, your posts are always so entertaining.

Annointed - You are a trooper for working out through the discomfort. I never quit working out either, it was about the only time I had any relief. I hope you are feeling a little better. It makes you understand how difficult it must be for people with chronic pain.

Traci - I hope Sandy is faring well at the bay and you are enjoying it. We always miss your presence:)

Off to finish dinner. There is a rumble of thunder, but no rain yet. We are having a very serious drought. The last few days, have about ruined everything with the intense heat.

Tracy

Hey Guys....
