Good morning!
I'm all mixed up so this post could end up sounding incoherent. And yes, I have just had a cup of coffee. AF just arrived this morning - almost a week early. I feel like I got cheated out of my PMS power-mode week! And what's up with the early arrival??? Grrrr. Getting old is making me whacky.
TraciX - I haven't tried the Happy Hips that, I think, TracyX has mentioned. Hip openers are important for me, too, and so far the best I've found is....YogaX. Tony is one of the few yogas I've found so far where he actually holds the poses long enough to make a difference. Plus the first 45 mins of movement warms up the muscles really nicely so that when you reach the static poses the joints are ready to open. StretchX is good, too. Shiva Rea has a forward bends & twists segment that works on the hips, but she moves in and out of the poses more quickly than I'm ready for.
Here's the pumpkin-cauliflower soup recipe:
Steam a head of cauliflower (about 4 cups, chopped really small) until really tender. Combine in a pot with 15oz can of pure pumpkin puree, 3 cups of chicken stock, 1 cup of milk, 1 tbsp of flour (for thickening; optional), 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of sugar (optional). Heat until bubbly. The longer you leave it sit before serving, the thicker it becomes. It apparently serves 7, with each serving having 55.7 cals, 11.5g carbs, 0.4g fat, and 3.2g protein.
LeaX & TraciX - Are we competing to see who can provide the best out-of-shape before picture? I swear this week has been a sad mess in the eating department for me. Like LeaX, my dinner last night was pizza (3 pieces), followed by chocolate chip cookies. We won't mention Saturday, Sunday & Monday. I have a feeling my unexpectedly early visit from AF has something to do with it. I've also been sleeping terrrrribly bad, and the tiredness makes me a tiger for simple carbs. I stupidly had a cup of coffee yesterday afternoon, and was awake most of last night, regretting it. So now I'm all out of sorts. Haven't done my workout yet, despite having a rather busy day planned. Argh. What are your plans for eating during P90X? I presume no one here is intending to follow the eating plan in the manual? I would like to just aim to stick with 1800 cals/day.
LeaX - I'm not a mom who socializes with other women just because they're moms. I've made a handful of friends who also have young children since we moved here, and those are my circle of playdates. I don't plan on doing much of the P90X cardio this time around. It will likely be mostly Cathe, maybe some running. I just want to do the P90X upper body weight work and ARX. I think that was the most effective thing about the program for me, the first time through. So nachos hang around in your stomach for a bit, do they? Ugh!! But it sounds yummy!!
LaurieX - no, I didn't *offer* any of the soup to the kids LOL!!! And to DH I said, "This is pumpkin-cauliflower soup.......Which you're welcome to have. But look, I've also cooked some carrots!" I made it so that I would have it for my lunch for the week, so I wasn't in sharing mode. Terrible mother, huh? I love pumpkin. Did you know that it is a very common ingredient in jarred baby food, in places like New Zealand? It's as ubiquitous in their baby food as carrots are in ours.
StephX - Hi! Nice to see you! How was the tournament? I think GS BSB is a terrific workout, too. I'm ready to start another round of Tony simply because I have no intentions of doing All-Tony All The Time. Heck, I may only be doing 4-5 weeks of the upper body weight work. That doesn't seem so bad. Have fun with LIC cardio today. I enjoy that workout very much.
DebraX - Your BM2 workout sounded great! I love how versatile the BM workouts are. Enjoy your last day with DH!
Jeanette - that's really too bad that the language in Departed interfered with the movie. Maybe you should have watched a couple episodes of The Sopranos first, to warm up your ears a bit?
I think my shins are all better today. Your half-a**ed triathalon story still cracks me up! You're hilarious. Yay on finally finding a woodstove!!! And getting a new washer!!!
Oh yeah - about the weather. We all had a bad day of it yesterday. We had snow, wind *and* rain all afternoon. Blech.
Time to go. I have no idea what this day is going to bring, and my brain isn't working well enough to handle any curve balls, so wish me luck.
