HI all,

Just getting us started today. The weather has been so wacky. It was 80 on Thursday 70 yesterday and they are predicting some snow for this afternoon. I'm happy to say that my hormones have leveled out and are not following the weather pattern!

BBl,

Tracy

Happy Happy Friday!

Saw an ad last night about GET IN SHAPR FOR SUMMER... WE DID IT EARLY!!! ^^5 gang! I'm usually in scamble mode about now- feels good to not be feeling like I cant put on a tank cuz of flappy jack arms!

TRACY X:: I am so glad the hormones are back under control! Great day ahead for you. That kind of weather pattern would drive me nuts but I guess you are getting all 4 seasons this month.

Today I'll do another new kickbox "StrikeZone" Janis Saffell. I gave away the last one I had of hers with the guillermo dude so we shall see. This one has chapters of WarmUp, Kick Aerobics 22min, Target Drills 16min, Kickbox Sculpt 10min, & Tai Chi Stretch. I'll give ya the reviews later. I will also get in a StretchMax or Total Body Stretch as I failed to stretch after either of yesterdays workouts and am feeling very tight this morning.

Yesterdays Posts:

LEA X:: Congrats on now adding plumber to your resume! Is there no end to your talents? ;) How cool Dr Furhmen is heading your way...Did you read his book? I have it and love the principals but gotta say I just wil never give up my animal proteins. The first day I did that the detox process was worse than anything I had ever gone thru. I'm a lost cause! The card is WONDERFUL! Thank you!!! That little guy was doing the "Happy Dance" and just made my morning!! {{{{LEA}}}}
I kinda like it when you cant workout cuz you have time to write us a card!:D

TRACY X:: LOL which came first the 3500 calories or the 1 pound of true fat? Thats the question! I know you dont weigh but I just never count a scale increase as real fat unless it sticks for 7 days. I do calorie zig zagging so I am always a 5 pound scale flux weekly... I know that answered absolutely no part of your question!:7 In the next round of P90X I am planning on doing pics so I suppose you will see what my crazy body looks like. Keep in mind I shall be wearing the Sandra Shorts so I will look leaner in the legs than reality!:+

SANDRA X:: You keep busting me girl! NO I have not done SS as produced yet! I actually did use SS & PP last year as one body part a day (I used 2-3 tapes for each part). I will try the SS as well. On your reasoning to Lea about cardio.... I do think that with the varied intensity and shorter bouts that you can accomplish some good things. As you said the key is fine tuning the cardio durations & variety for your body. Your 60 minute intense cardio sessions are 60 min INCLUDING Warm/up & Stretch - correct? That would make a typical Cathe about 50 minutes of actual high intensity on that day. Sounds good to me! What do I know tho- It took me 10 years to lose 20 - pounds! Thats about .8#s a month! :p

JEANETTE X:: How fabulous that you are seeing the many benefits of your new strong core (& pretty ripped abs I might add!;) ) You must be so proud of that and all you have accomplished over the dreary winter months! Remember thats when most people pudge out and we all did the exact opposite!:7 BTW: Do you wear a HRM during your rides? I'd think that would help with knowing how many (if any) extra calories you need to fuel properly. No magic formula but certainly the possibility remain that you are simply hanging on to BF due to LACK of clean calories. I require a much higher # of clean when I burn excessive cardio calories. I actually log it daily and have it separated as Cardio * Strength + my calories / nutrient breakdown etc... - the patterns becomes obvious after 30 days...

Debra X:: Hope you're reading and having a BLAST! We do miss you;( tho and want to know when you are coming home!!

LAURIE X:: Hope your week is winding down and you are ready for a terrific weekend!!!

STEPH X:: You've pretty much done it and I am calling you STEPH X from this point forward!!! WooHoo!!!!!!! :+ :7 :D

Good morning!

I'm just popping online quick before my workout. DD and I made green cookies yesterday and I actually have to drive her to school today, to bring them for her class. This throws a wrench in my morning, and I imagine DD#2 is not going to be happy about having to miss her morning Barney episode.

I am about to go downstairs and do.....SH shoulders, and IMAX2 blast-only premix. That's right. TraciX motivated me to actually give this one a try today. It flies by, I'm sure. Right Traci? I hope so. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. But I, ah, just don't have the *time* to do the IMAX blasts as well. Oh shucks, huh Traci?

TracyX - just an fyi that I replied to your yesterday comments last evening, in yesterday's check in thread. And yeah, I got a bit yakky x(

Morning ladies,

Today was Slim Series Firm It Up, without the abs. Think I will do something different for abs this evening. I've gotten to where I enjoy doing a short (15 minutes) ab workout in the evenings. Also helps keep me from snacking, though that hasn't been a problem here in the last few days.

Traci, I'm looking forward to wearing a sleeveless shirt at work but it's still a bit cool for most of the morning. I also already have a funny tan line from last Sunday's warm bike ride. I need to buy some sunscreen as I'm out. I dislike burning and have grown to love wearing sunscreen, knowing I'm doing something good. However, I never wore it until only about 5 or 6 years ago, lots of skin damage before then. Hope you enjoy your new kickbox workout today. We'll be waiting for an update of course. I don't usually wear a HRM when I'm riding with a group because with them, I'm going to ride at whatever the pace is, I don't want to worry about a high heart rate nor do I stay at a certain heart rate zone. I have worn it in the past and usually, my calorie burn is very, very low for an intense workout, compared to others. A typical 60 minute tough Spinerval or Cardio Coach might have me burning under 300 calories is all, while others may report huge calorie burns of 500-600. I just hate bumping up my calories because of fear of gaining more. I've kept my calories up since finishing P90X, doing less intense workouts and gaining pudge. I counted them yesterday and I was around 1500-1700 with the regular handfuls of dried cranberries. I'm going to bump downwards a little bit and see what happens. Today's weight was 3 pounds less than yesterday, but I still may be a bit dehydrated from last night's ride so will probably up that with being sufficiently hydrated.

Sandra, I just read about the green cookies and remembered St. Patty's Day. We used to always have corned beef and cabbage around this time. I really don't like it any more, though DH loves to cook it. It's soooo salty for me and lots of fat in the corned beef. Enjoy Imax2 blasts! I've never done just blasts. Hmmm.

Must get ready for work now,

Jeanette

Morning Xers,

If you are Finnish, I want to wish you Happy St. Urho’s Day! And you should all be wearing purple today. My DD’s are embracing their Finnish heritage, and went to school wearing purple. :7

I did another segment of the Yoga Target Zone, this one was Power Weight Loss. It was a good one for only 20 min. I was actually sweating. Of course for someone more advanced in yoga, this would probably not make them sweat at all. :D

Traci, You asked yesterday if I struggle keeping cardio to a min. I am one of those people that doesn't like cardio, and I like the short but intense workouts that are more athletic. But I'm finding, like Sandra, that I do need more cardio to get that pouch belly down. I have about a 2-1/2 pack.

The Barry's do seem expensive, but there are 5 DVD's and four of them have three different sections. Each section is between 20 and 30 min in length. The segments are Weights/Cardio/Treadmill. The full body one is supposed to be different. But will let you know. I actually got mine from HSN and also got $15 off for being a first time customer. Yep, give us a review of StrikeZone. Another one on my list of DVD's I want. I am so glad my DH doesn't question why I have so many exercise DVD's. :D

Sandra, What you wrote yesterday could have been written by me. I went through the same thing with my weight. I was down to almost my perfect weight, but man was I a crabby, unhappy person. I knew it was mostly what I was eating, so I changed it up. Gained weight, but am a much happier person. P90X gave me a better upper body, and I got to see the top portion of my abs, but I still have that belly too. I like how your rotation is using different weight routines to change things up. It kind of reminds me of the Look Great in 8 rotation were you do one week each of Circuit, Heavy, High Reps and Supersets. I think we just need to experiment with different things to find what works for each of us. I know that running helps slim my legs, so I know I need to incorporate that into my rotation also.

Lea, Just try and get the addy out of me for my DH. :D My DD’s concert was for the 3rd and 4th grades. All the 4th graders had to play their recorders for the first two songs. The theme was Children around the world, so they where singing songs from different countries. It was really cute. And then I have to confess, we went for ice cream! Maybe I should join you in the detox! The e-card was just what I needed today, thank you so much. But now I feel I need to work off that ice cream. :D

Jeanette, My kickboxing/yoga workout was great yesterday. Those power scissors in CTX KB have given me some good DOMS in the rear! It is hard to sit still today. I am liking the new yoga DVD also.

Tracy, we are having the same type of weather. 70 deg one day and now we are suppose to get some snow today.

Boy I’m long winded today, I need to get back to work.

Have a great day!

Laurie

Good morning all. To those of you getting snow today after a few days of summer weather all I have to say is OUCH!!! What is up with that? I feel for you.

I am getting antsy and feeling better, so I might try to do something today. If it starts to hurt I will stop. I really feel frumpy today, so gotta do something.

Today I have a few people coming over to have dinner, so I might or might not make it to personals today. If I don't I wish everyone a happy day.

Hi all,

Traci – I could never do the Furman thing either. I have to have the meat products. As much as Sandra found that lack of carbs effected her psyche, lack of protein and fat effects mine. I’ve eaten a low fat diet for years with minimal protein, and I’m sure it has contributed to my moodiness. Are you doing Kickbox every day? Your upper body should be looking really good. I loved the comment about .8lbs per year. Oh well, better slow than never. You know what is amazing? I have several of Cathe’s dvds that I have never done as produced. I'll check out the DVD. 5.99 is a steal and thier freight is cheap.

Lea – I’m antsy after two days. I will be doing something this afternoon, I just don’t know what yet! I hope that you can get something in; standing and sitting yoga maybe. I have a Rodney somebody or another who does all of the poses without the vinyasas. It would be good for an injury period.

Debra – You sound like me, sneaking off at work to check in. It seems like to me when the Barry’s were on pre-order they were 59.95. I didn’t order them because I had just gotten the CIA ones and was reminded that not everything is right for me. Those sound good though. I’m glad you like the new yoga. Is it Yogaish? Those are the ones I like. I was looking for something new last weekend, but didn’t find anything except that B Kest one Jeanette. Congratulations on loosing all of the weight. I know that it is not easy.

Jeanette – I thought about you as I reached for the bag of cranberries at Costco yesterday, and then decided against buying them. I’ve read where cycling burns huge amounts of calories. No such luck for you? I am not fighting the layer of fat as much as the smaller muscles. If my rear did not have fat on it, there would be mostly bone! It gets depressing if you think about it. The thighs are not as bad, but still, I would be a toothpick without the fat covering. There is no way I will ever change that to mostly muscle.

Sandra – Same to you, congratulations on loosing all of the weight. My son lost about 55lbs. I know that it is not easy. I’ve lived on a high carb diet for years and must admit, that wasn’t working for me either. Since adding in more protein, I feel better. That’s one reason why I couldn’t ever become a vegetarian. I’m just not educated enough to get enough protein from animal products and I shy away from too much soy. I didn’t know the physiology of the carb/glycogen/relationship, and it is interesting. I guess that accounts for the bloated feeling after consuming carbs. As for the cardio, if you have done the routines that you have multiple times, then I would definitely try to shake them up either by mixing and matching segments, repeating segments, etc, just so that they are somewhat new and challenging for the body. Weekly running would really shake things up. I think that one of the reasons that the x is so effective is because it is a complete shock. I guess I don’t know enough about exercise physiology to comment on heavy vs lighter weight work, but I still think that the heavier weights do wonders for the body in minimal amounts of time. I’m not sure that you can maintain gains from heavy weight work by using lighter weights, but you may burn more calories. I just don’t know. The thing that I like about the x weight concept is that doing multiple exercises per body part instead of 3 sets of 12-15 is that it allows you to go heavier for more of the exercises. Heavy seems to burn more calories for me, but we all are different and finding out what works for your body type is key.

Tracy

Back again!

<Reaching down to give Traci and hand up. Helping dust off her backside...my! So solid! Buns of steel!>. Sorry about that, Traci. I didn't mean to make you fall off your chair. But I'm glad I was able to shake things up a bit for you :) Your workout for the day looks very similar to KickMax. I hope it's a good one! About SS - it's really fun as produced, and the premixes are splendorific for cranking it up a notch. They really get in there, IMO. Okay, LMAO! You snuck in and posted about your workout. It's a must-buy! KenpoX with Cathe fun-factor? That sounds like a keeper for sure! I'm writing that down. Thank you! Are you sticking around for the whole weekend, or just until your social event is over tomorrow? I can't remember what you're doing, but there's something on your calendar for tomorrow (just in case you forgot ;) ).

JeanetteX - Wow, what a great ride you had last night! And your back was feeling good? Yay!! You're going to be setting PRs in all those races this year! Yeah, I remember when people finished that August rotation there were a number of posts to Cathe asking "What do I do now?" I think, like P90X, rotations like that are great for taking you to your peak, for a short time. They aren't sustainable over the long term. Heck, all those fitness models we see have "off seasons" where they gain a bit of weight and lose some muscle. It's part of the circle of fitness, I think. I hate wearing sunscreen. Hate hate hate it. But I do it faithfully, and make sure to smear it on the kids, too. We are an extremely fair bunch of people and go from white to red really quick. I'm also at higher-than-average risk of developing skin and mole cancers, so have to be very cautious about sun exposure. But since I hate the feel of sunscreen, I will often choose to stay inside rather than go out. How sad is that? You used to do the corned beef and cabbage thing? Wow! I haven't had corned beef since I was very young. A friend just invited us for dinner on Sunday. She's cooking a ham, and I've been asked to bring my hash brown casserole. I can already feel myself puffing up like a blow fish. Her ham is to die for, though. She does an amazing job. I'm looking forward to it! I hear you completely on the low calorie burn! DH once informed me that in a 90 min cycle he burned something like 1300 calories, if not more. I can't remember the number. I totally didn't believe him and told him to reset his hrm because it was lying to him. Sadly, it probably wasn't. He's just tall and male. It's not fair!

LaurieX - Happy St. Urho's day to you, too! Who was St. Urho, and why wear purple? Thank you for your comments on my Thursday post. I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with all this, although I'm sorry you have to go through it, too :) I've never heard of the Look Great in 8 rotation. Where's that from?

LeaX - I don't blame you for wanting to do something today. Long lay-offs are tough. I wish you the best in finding something that will make you feel better without exacerbating your injuries. When are you going to the meditation centre? Enjoy your dinner tonight! Sounds like fun!

My morning workout was terrific! I loved it! The SH Shoulders felt good, but I love working my shoulders. The IMAX2 BlastMania premix felt, well darn it, it felt downright fun. I did this premix once about 3-ish years ago, and found it super hard. Today, it felt like a decent cardio, and truer to a cardio-interval workout. I'll definitely be doing this one again. I've done IMAX2 so many times as-produced that I've grown quite bored of it. This helped change things up a lot. I just wish I could program the dvd to randomly mix up the order of the intervals. Thanks for motivating me to do this, TraciX! That's why this forum is so great!

Hey, Xer babes! Last night I did YogaX and tonight is Core Synergistics for the LAST TIME! That is the only thing motivating me to do it at this point. I have today off as a teacher comp. day for staying late 2 days this week for Parent Teacher Conferences. DD and I went to get her 3 year pictures taken. There’s a wonderful photographer near us and we had a fun time. I can’t wait to see what they look like!

TraciX - I feel so honored to be included as StephX! I’m almost there! I never thought I’d see the day! So, I’m just guessing, but it appears that you enjoy the Janis Saffell Kickbox Strike Zone workout? (LOL) I am going to have to get this one! I mean, for 5.99 you really can’t go wrong. I consider you my personal workout reviewer. I’m also planning on getting Tony’s Core Cardio to sub for Core Synergistics, which I can barely bring myself to do one more time.

TracyX - That IS weird weather! Did you say you lived in the Midwest? Sounds like it by the weather patterns. What workout are you tackling today?

LeaX - Boy, do I know how you feel with the injury! I thought I would never get through this rotation due to sickness and injuries! I know it gets incredibly frustrating. Just do some activity and you’ll feel better. I’m sending healing vibes your way.

LaurieX - Well, I’m joining you with working off the ice cream. DD and I went out for ice cream after her photo session today. Now, I’m feeling gross and bloated. Another motivation to get out the old Core Syn and diminish that feeling.

JeanetteX - Great idea doing the abs instead of snacking in the evening. The yoga belly section really got me last night and I’m not sure why. Those one-legged boats are brutal! My quad is on fire when I’m doing those, counting the ticking of each second until I’m done. I’ve never really kept track of my calories, but you did get me thinking about it. Am I unknowingly consuming more calories doing P90X and will I continue to consume more when I’m done? Hmmmm. I’ll have to think about that one.

SandraX - Let us know if you survived the IMAX 2 blast only premix. I’ve never been brave enough to try that. I don’t think I have the cardio stamina. That’s pretty impressive.

Well, I’ve got to put DD down for her nap. Maybe I can get one in, too. DH and both DS are going to another wrestling meet this weekend, so it’ll be just us girls! I’m actually looking forward to some quiet time. Have a great Friday, gals!

Steph

Back with a few personals! Heavens- I'm still all a fluster from that workout...:7

SANDRA::Staying in town this weekend...thanks for reminder! LOL- DH forgot all about it and did a big pout last night cuz he cant fish... MEN! We have a BBQ to go to at one of my friends and she is single so he will have no guys to talk with...She's also my "spiritual" buddy so she and I get off into the talk of meditations, angels, and the sort. I'd let him bow out but he has been given the "pass" on so many occasions that he hasnt seen Linda in 2 years! WOW on DH & 1300 calorie burn! I need his bike!:7 You love shoulder work? ME TOO! I have the best lookin shoulders in town just cant let thes drift!! I am sooooo happy you enjoyed your blast fix. Must say I didnt find it nearly as easy as you seemed to have but I'm not the cardio addict you are either! (anymore that is)
Now perhaps you will try the blasts from all 3 Imax's + Lowmax Blasts! Yeah baby- thats the ticket!!! Oh yes...Thanks for the hand up from the floor!

TRACY::
Had to laugh at resisting the bag of dried cranberries! It really is like you have all these little "angels" on your shoulder whispering the cautionary tales! I so hope your back cooperates so you can get in your workouts of choice this weekend. Doing Kickbox 2-3 days a week as I want "it all"! Great upper, great abs, great butt! It actually has been two weeks that I've done it this way and I can definitely see the diff in my body. It really is all about getting in the Kick but without the intense cardio factor for my body... I'll actually use these new kick DVDs as my "doubles" cardio in X - just not a full hour. thats why I love the chapters in my newest ones.

LEA::
What ya up to today girl? If you really do feel frumpy why dont you just open your picture trail.... You are a lean & mean mama! Keep in mind also that your body will be so "shocked" by the down week that it will all kick in big time as soon as you start up again! I know you arent sitting around eating ho-ho's so be thankful for the little break. - If you are sitting around eating Ho-Ho's STOP IT and IMMEDIATELY go put them in a box and ship overnight to ME!:p Enjoy your dinner party- what ya makin????

LAURIE::
Another sheltered person here that has no clue what St. Urho’s Day is! Do enlighten me tho!!! maybe Leas dinner party is a St Urho Party!!! :+ Happy you found a good Yoga! I'm still in search of one that wont make me freak out because its too hard & slow! A 2.5 pack is GREAT! Gotta start somewhere! I remember the days when I thought only certain people were actually born with ab muscles!!! OOOH- I'll check out HSN for Barrys. They really sound terrific - can any of them be considered a PlyoX type?

JEANETTE:
Are ya ready for the weekend???? Thats interesting about the HR.. When I took spinning classes which were like Spinervals I always burned about 300-350 in 50 minutes... When I street ride I burn about 20-30% more. I think its cuz I'm so darned scared being on the open road tho!;-) Keeps the HR up!! Look at that nasty scale messing with your head!! I am constantly amazed by the extreme # up/down from morning to morning...especially since I basiclly eat the exact same way every day and drink the same amount of water... I think its very cool that you are now accustomed to PM ab work. GREAT THINKING doing it at night to also keep you away from snacking! Theres an idea I just might steal as DH eats dessert every night at 7pm...I could go do abs while he endulges...Thanks for idea!

Thats it for me- trying to get DH to invite me out to dinner- one more piece of chicken or turkey and I'm gonna need a coop!

Sandra, St. Urho's Day is just as made up as St. Patrick's. Just a reason for the Finlanders to drink. Very popular where I grew up though. :D Here is a link to the Look Great in Eight. It was published in Muscle & Fitness Hers.

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0KGB/is_3_3/ai_98592788

Traci, Now I really do want the DVD.:)

Not to encourage the spending, but here is the code for the HSN $15 off 451500. The cardio is mostly plyo work in these. I haven't checked them all out yet, some people say that some of the moves are unsafe. But after doing Cathe and P90X, I have been applying their advice and making the moves safe.

Laurie

STEPH X!!!! How did I miss your post????? Could it be that you are so tiny now that you've completed X?????? What type of pics/measurements did you do? Will you share so we can all oooooh & ahhhhhhh?
My pleasure being your personal reviewer! Whens my first paycheck?:+ Oh goodie on Core Cardio!! For some reason it is truly more bearable! Maybe just a different pace. Enjoy girl time this weekend!!!!
In case ya couldnt tell I'm happy for you and graduation............

Hi guys! I hope nobody took offense or thought I was rude for not checking in lately. I think that I was so tired of feeling "committed" to the daily schedule of P90X, that I just needed a break from all the daily thoughts about it. I really miss hearing how everyone is doing -- I read today's and yesterdays check-in and it sounds like everyone is doing well and experimenting with different ideas.

Well, after stopping P90X, what was the first thing I did? Silly me - after being sick of sticking to a schedule, I spent tons of hours trying to come up with some program with "my perfect" mix of cardio, weights and yoga. Well, that just isn't working out. I think I need a very loose type of schedule, nothing to rigid. Otherwise I stress out too much when I can't stick to the schedule and end up passing on fun activities like, dinner with friends, movie, etc. just to fit in my workout.

What I have pretty much ended up doing is rotating workouts in a particular order, but inserting rest days whenever I want them. I am doing workouts in the following order:

1. Chest -- no DVD, push-ups, chest presses and flies
2. Cardio - (some type of plyo, imax, low max, Cardio Coach)
3. Back & Biceps -- have been using my P90X dvd
4. Yoga -- (currently LOVING - Yoga for Happiness w/ Eoin Finn)
5. Cardio - Kickboxing (whatever kickbox I feel like)
6. Shoulders & Tris -- Sometimes I use Chest Sh & Tri X and just skip the chest work.
7. Lower -- no DVD, heavy weights 6-8 reps
8. Yoga
9 & 10. A couple of rest days inserted where needed.

Like I said, I try to keep it very flexible and usually insert at least two rest days in there. I also try to do two ab days, at least one of which is ARX. Notice there isn't much cardio? I seem to have developed quite a disliking for cardio these days. I am having very good results with this and I think mentally as well. If I get through my weight training sessions quickly I will add a short yoga or cardio session on to the end. As you may notice, there are times when a body part doesn't get worked in a traditional calendar week, that's fine though. Seems to be working for the time being.

If I remember correctly aren't some of you going to start the X back up shortly? I thought that I remembered reading that Traci X was planning to start again? I wish Tony would come out with more workouts! I would buy them up! This week I just didn't feel up to doing any weight work so I took extra rest days and did Core Syn today. OMG! I forgot how freakin hard that was. Sweat was pouring off of me!

Well -- I hope it wasn't too rude of me to jump in after being MIA and just go on and on about what I am up to.

Lea -- I saw your e-greeting link on yesterday's post and I thought that it was so sweet! Enjoy your green beer!

Monica
