I certainly can sympathise with not having time for meetings. There is an on-line option, or there is on-line software that is also helpful and keeps you accountable. I think the suggestion of having your thyroid checked is a good one. I know in my 30's I gained 20 pounds in 3 months due to a migraine preventitive I took. It took me three years of hard work to finally get my metabolism working again. Another thing you might try if you can afford it is to meet with a nutrionist to help figure out the best way that fits your lifestyle. this person could help you map out a plan, give you tips on how to eat to rev your metabolism, and once you become more active, how to fuel your work-outs and still lose. Losing weight is hard work, I tried unsuccesfully for 30 years, and for some reason, this last time was my time. Don't give up, try to think of it as fueling your body for energy for your life, and that you don't want to put bad fuel into it, but good effective fuel.

Good luck and even if your December report is 10 pounds, or whatever, that is still a victory.

You said, "I'm one of those people that basically have to starve myself to see results, and that in itself makes it hard for me to keep going with any plan.Sad but true!" This is NOT true, you do NOT have to starve to lose weight! As we've said, you have to re-educate yourself to eat right, and you will find that you can eat a lot and not be hungry and STILL lose weight. Go to the library and get a copy of "Picture Perfect Weight Loss" by Dr. Shapiro and see how much you CAN eat and lose weight. You don't even have to read it - just look at the pictures.

PLEASE stop making excuses - most of us HAVE had weight problems, so we really get it. Take ownership, be positive, and get to work. Have a plan and then work the plan, and stop the negative self-talk.
If you REALLY want to do it, you'll accomplish it.

Hey there,

I've lost 50 pounds using WW and have been at or under my goal weight for two years now (I'm now working on a personal goal). Here's my 2 cents... One thing I learned at the WW meetings is that beyond the physical aspects of embarking on a weight loss journey (i.e. hunger, cravings, building up an excercise program, etc) a large part of the process is the mental aspect. You have banish thoughts that you are going to fail. Take that tag line off your signature 'I want to be committed to lose weight' and replace it with 'I am willing to do what it takes to lose weight' or 'I *am* committed to lose weight'. There's a quote from Yoda in Stars Wars that I love (forgive me fans of Star Wars if I don't get this exactly right!) It goes: 'Do or not do, there is no try'.

Secondly, you have to make your health a priority in your life. Granted, you have your family as your priority too, but if you don't have your health then how will you take care of your family. Think about how you spend your time. If you have time to watch TV (or even surf the internet LOL) then you have time to exercise and prepare healthy meals. If you don't have the time at home, then maybe you can use your lunch hour to take a walk. Park in the far corner of the parking lot, take the steps instead of the elevator at work. There are many small things you can do to help the process along if you make your health a priority.

You might think your goal is so far away, but take it from me after a couple weeks on the program you will start feeling significantly better. It's not like when you hit a certain weight everything is instantly better. Once you get traction in the program and you begin taking control or yourself rather than letting things control you, you will start feeling a sense of empowerment and your self-esteem will rise.

I started WW with a group of people at my work and I was the slowest loser. Two weeks out of every four I didn't lose weight or even gained. My husband says I'm just too stubborn to give up and I guess in a way he was right. I stayed with it thru good times and bad and over the course of just about a year - and over the year averaging maybe a pound a week - I got to my goal. So think about it, if you lose just a pound a week you will have over 50 pounds off by next year. It's not the Biggest Loser, but it's doable and you won't have to starve yourself and do hours and hours of daily workouts to get there.

Today's a good day to start taking charge of your weight. If you don't start today, a year from now you will wish you did!

All the best....

For those that do WW On Line - Do you feel you have the support and accoutability that you have with the live meetings?

Goal 160 - Some places also have morning meetings or weekends if those times work better.

I was thinking the same thing about WW and meeting times - they are kind of like AA, where you can find a meeting just about anywhere at any time of the day.

good evening, I have been there with the weight and I know it is not easy to start and finish any weightlost journey. Don't be discouraged, it does take time to loss the weight. Having lost over 100lbs was a good thing for me and my body. I was overweight for a long time and was always making excuses for myself as well. My husband got so tired of me saying "this is the day I will lose some weight" only to stop trying after 5days on any diet. When my doctor told me that I had to lose some weight (ten pounds at a time), I just laughed at her saying, "it is easy to say, hard to do". I was telling her I dont have the time (working, kids, husband...etc), she said something that just stuck in my head. She said " It is amazing how people never find the time to commit to an exercise/good eating plan when they are heatlhy, but when something happens(heart attack or stoke) all of sudden these same people find the time. And their jobs or home life did not change".

She told me to find the time before it is too late. Just start off with small goals. When I was 232, my short term goal was to get out of the 230's range. When I got down to 228, my short term goal was to get out of the 220's range...and so forth. I always kept my ultimate goal of 150 in mind. It can be done. I am now at 129-132 depending on the time of month or day. I think ww is a good program to start of with. If you cant do all of the workout's in its entirety, just make small steps, like 10 minutes for the first week and build from it. But commit to something, no matter how short or long.

Remember to eat as clean as possible, get plenty of rest, include cardio and weights with you workout plan and drink lots of water. The weight will come off slowly, but surely.

30lbs to lose by christmas maybe too extreme, so start with a goal of 10-15 lbs. Since you dont have a lot of videos(cathe), maybe you should walk for some cardio, 10-30 minutes a day 3-5x a week. You probalbly should have some other weight training videos. If you are looking to purchase some of cathe's other workouts, begin with the pure/strength series or the pyramid upper and lower body vidoes.

I hopes this help a litte for you, and again dont be so hard on yourselve, life is really to short.....Love chap...
