X-Box question

Help for the clueless, please? My sons pooled their money and bought an XBox 360 console with Kinect. They would like to play some original backwards-compatible X-Box games, but it says you need a hard drive for that. Is there a way around this, or do we really have to purchase a hard drive? If that is the case, it's going to have to wait until Christmas--which they would obviously rather not do.

Thanks in advance!

How big was the HDD that came with the Xbox? If they have enough space, they can use that. If they need a new drive, they can be found really cheap as Zenara posted. I'm sure we paid less than $50 for a drive at Target or Best Buy. Look around for deals.

Thanks for your replies. I guess it's a 360 Slim, so only certain hard drives will work--but we are looking at the refurbished ones. We'll keep an eye out. Thanks for the advice.
