Wrinkle/age/skin cream

I have seen some great posts on favorite lipsticks, bikini waxing etc., but I was wondering about skin creams....specifically, I will be 42 this winter and am ok with all the wrinkles, crows-feet etc., except these lines between my nose and my upper lip ... I think it is because my neice told my mother she had "old lady lips" due to these lines. They freak me out completely... I am not interested in Botox but I see all these adds for "wrinkle" creams etc. and thought this would be a great place to get some REAL feedback... anybody found the fountain of youth?? or atleast youthful upper lips (is it too much to ask for??)? Thanks!

Have you ever tried Mary Kay? They have a lot of great anti-aging products. Check out the lip primer. Go to www.marykay.com I use the Timewise anti aging cleanser and moisturizer along with the day and night solutions. I love the way my skin feels.

Hope this helps :)

Hi gaijin,

I'd really recommend getting Leslie Baumann's book The Skin Type Solution, which gives a lot of great info on what anti-aging products work best for your individual skin type.

I'd been using Avon's Anew line for years before reading her book, only to discover that my skin type doesn't respond well to alpha-hydroxy acids. As soon as I switched to my (recommended) retinols, I started noticing huge differences! Also, if you can get the hardback version of the book, it contains more info than the paperback.

Hope this helps! :)

Obaji and retin-a creme. You would need to see a dermatologist who carries the Obaji line for a prescription. It's pricey, but it honestly works.

I've got the same lines above my lip and I'm not a smoker!! Must be from all the drinking straws I used in my younger years  I highly recommend Retin-A. I have been on it for a few months now and the lines are more subtle. Just be careful around the lip area.

I'm not sure there's much to be done about those lines without injectables or laser surgery. I had Fraxel done a few years ago & it was miraculous--the lines pretty much disappeared. But it was expensive & pretty darned uncomfortable.

I think there are skin creams that can get rid of very fine lines & improve skin texture, but when it comes to wrinkles there's nothing to be done without lots of money & various procedures.

Ann Gittleman (Fat Flush Plan) wrote that witch hazel and cocoa butter store are two of the best things for a woman. Plus they are cheap from the Dollar General. I don't do cocoa butter cream in the summer and in the south though. I switch to a lighter moisturizer. The key is to clean and moisturize.

I'm a big fan of Burt's Bees. I use the day cream, night cream and eye cream (at night) and the cream cleanser. It has really made my skin smoother and I think reduced the wrinkles. Of course being pregnant and having a chubby face right now also puffs out the wrinkles some. Drinking LOTS of water also helps a TON I have found!!

I found Obagi-C from a spa trip for facials. Then I started ordering this product online through Skin-careRX.com, so I don't have to go to the spa to get it. It made a big diff in my skin, lighten brown spots, brightened and softened lines. Really good stuff. I use Clensing Gel, Day and Night Lotion and the Serum. Not inexpensive - but worth every penny. Starter kit comes with a DVD that is very helpful.

*raises hand* Another Obagi/Retin-A user here. These products have been clinically shown to reduce many skin concerns and should be used only under the care of licensed aesthetician. I'd highly recommend that you schedule an appointment for a consultation with an aesthetician in your area.... you won't be disappointed! An aesthetician can prescribe a treatment regimen that is designed to address all of your specific skin care needs. :)

LauraMax -- I just had the pixel done a couple of weeks ago and I'm VERY pleased with the results. I have to attend a wedding rehearsal dinner for my stepson THE DAY FOLLOWING my next procedure... ugh... but.... oh well.... I'll deal with it. Thank goodness for mineral makeup!! lol

Here goes . .

Botox = a miracle drug.

Yes - it works on the upper lip as I pearce my lips when I'm thinking. No more.

Plus - I don't get tension headaches anymore.

Not what you wanted to hear but . . .

I couldn't agree more.
You can find Obaji online, but you need a prescription for retin-a, and some of the Obaji is prescription only.
Every woman should use retin-a. It does wonders for your skin. :D

I learned a tip from someone on this forum a couple of years ago: use eye serum around the lip area.

I started getting pretty bad "smokers" lines around my mouth (not from smoking but, I'm pretty sure, from teaching French! All those rounded vowels, repeated and exaggerated for the students' benefit). Then I started using Principal Secret eye serum around my lips. It's improved them quite a bit.

face exercises

Thanks for all the great suggestions...I will look in to a couple of them over the weekend. One last question, has anyone tried face exercises???
