Would you work out with workmen looking in the window?

I am having my house re-sided this week and today the guys who are doing the work (along with their cute, semi-naked young helpers, lol) are working on the half of the house that includes my workout room. I got my new club step (which is twice the length of my old one!!!!) and I am dying to try it, but I don't really want to work out with these guys looking in the windows, lol.

What would you do?

:p

Marie

I'd just toss some bath towels, or sheets over the windows and workout. I used both when we first moved into our house and didn't have mini blinds or curtains on the windows, and the big glass door in the center of my workout room, and since no fence or anything else to separate my yard from my neighbor's, they could watch me from their back porch, and had one heck of a view. So first went up the sheet, and later on, I put solar panels on the sliding glass door, as it faces the west and would heat up my workout room by 10 + degrees more then the rest of the house, but the pannels keep anyone from looking in as well.

Can you put something over the window? That's what I would do. I don't think I could work out while they were peering into the window.

I did breastfeed my little baby boy in my family room and then realized a guy was way up in one of our Oaks cutting off the dead branches. How embarrassing! I had all the blinds closed, but the windows go almost to the ceiling in that room, and the upper windows are not covered!

Have fun with your new step? If you don't mind me asking where did you get it? Was it a reasonable cost?

Dallas

Thanks, I was thinking I should just cover the windows, but then I feel like I am hiding something in here, lol.

Dallas, I did a lot of research before buying my step. I could not find the club-sized step in any local stores here. I watched some ebay auctions but the shipping always seemed to drive the price up to the same amount as just buying a new one.

I found the BEST price on the older model (i.e., pink/aqua version) at Walmart.com, but only if you don't require shipping (you can have it shipped to some of their stores but they don't have this option in my area). (Oh, and make sure you search on "Original Club Step" because they also have that smaller-sized step and it's not really clearly marked.) However, with the shipping charge to my location, it was almost as expensive as the black/gray model (which is what I really wanted) which I found on amazon.com with free shipping.... so I spent $85 but it is the new model with four risers. I am pretty happy with the purchase even though that was more than I wanted to spend. I cannot believe how much larger it is than the one I was using!

Cheers,
Marie

Thanks for the info. I saw that one on amazon.com. I've been researching it too, and have looked into ebay, etc. You're right shipping really drives up the cost. I have a smaller Reebok one. I'm ready for a full sized step, too!

Don't forget to cover up those windows!:p

Dallas

Have you tried sporting good stores like Dunhams? That's where I got mine and have seen them at most sporting goods stores. I don't remember what I paid, but not shipping. Take care and have fun working out.

Take your workout outside and away from the house? Swim laps at the pool? Go power-walking? Or just shift your w/o to after 5pm, when the men knock off for the day.

No, I would not be able to concentrate. I have a hard enough time as it is with my own children gawking at me as they pass me by when I am working out. I try to find corners to work out by or I will drag my weights in my bedroom with my door locked so they don't come in, not that they would want to follow me in there, but I get tired of hearing, "mom, what are doing...ah, that looks sick"...blah, blah, blah. I did do the walking lunges with weights along the side of the yard with two old men watching me cuz I can handle that, but not when it comes to lifting heavy...need complete concentration. If your just doing cardio, then maybe, but not lifting heavy I wouldn't. JMHO

If you had to ask, I would say you already know the answer. You are not comfortable with the idea. You should not feel like you are hiding something by covering your windows...it's your house you can do whatever you want!!

Now...start your workout already!!

We've had workers all week re-landscaping our backyard and we don't have blinds on our bathroom window, so I just took a garbage bag and taped it up in the window so you can't see it. It's worked great.

I wouldn't either. It would just feel too weird.

I got my club step on ebay--$35 plus $20 shipping. Not too bad for something to be delivered right to my front door, especially considering the nearest Walmart is like 30 minutes away.

Thanks, everyone. My kids are home so I am rather a captive audience at the moment. I will work out later when these guys kick off for the day. Right now all I see out the window are two very hairy legs and someone else's head. And we are on the second floor! LOL

Laura, I saw your original post about the deal you got on your step. I am jealous! Wendy (fit_mom) also got one really cheap off ebay. My cut-off for a used one was $50, though; I figured over that I might as well just buy a new one. :) I have to say, though, the old Reebok one that I've had for the last 12 years was probably the best $30 I ever spent, lol, so I don't mind much.

Cheers,
Marie

I wouldn't. But I can't imagine being in that situation, because ALL my windows (and door with window in) have shades or curtains on that I can close. I wouldn't imagine having bare windows, even if I lived on the 23rd floor of some building. Even if supposedly no one can look in. And when night falls, and it's darker outside than in, all the curtains get closed.

Paranoid much? Maybe, but I was the victim of a peeping Tom when I was in grad school, nude, sitting on my bed doing homework, with the shades down, but a slight breeze lifted the edges slightly once in a while, and that was all the motivation this perv needed. My-male--roommate went outside with a baseball bat after our neighbor called and told him she saw a guy standing and watching me. Unfortunately--or fortunately for the guy?--he was no longer there when my roommate got outside. It's a creepy feeling to know that someone has been watching you naked and you don't even know who it is.

Whenever I see a movie where a woman is undressing or even just walking around her house at night with the shades up, I think "CLOSE THE SHADES!"

My neighbor has no such qualms. She sits on her sofa watching TV late at night with the front shades open. We live on a dead end, but there are still people who drive in (who didn't read the sign) and can look in on her (I actually banged up the rear bumper of my previous car running into a light post while backing into my drive and being distracted by trying to see what the heck she was doing with the shades up---nothing interesting, just chowing down and watching TV. )

Kathyrn, that is sooooooo creepy! I am glad the guy went away but I would imagine being pretty freaked out about the whole thing.

My windows normally have curtains and/or blinds, but I am also having many windows replaced while they put the siding on, so the place is helter-skelter at the moment.

I WILL add, however, that having a couple of hot youngsters around wearing no shirts on was definitely motivation to work out, lol. My SO would be so pissed if he knew I said that! lol

:)

Cheers,
Marie

RE: Would you work out with workmen looking in the wind...

Yes I would, and I did! :D

We renovated and added on to our home a year or so ago, and my workout area was seriously invaded by workmen. Not only were they outside the window, they were inside walking through as well. The process lasted over a year, so it was either get over it, or not work out.... so, I got over it!
