Would you wear these colors?

I just received an order I placed for casual shirts on www.bluefly.com. First of all, I have to let you know what a nice shopping experience that was. I'd never even heard of them, but they give a contribution to my Upromise account, so I gave them a try. The clothes are nice and reasonably priced, but the coolest part was the way they packaged my order! I got 2 short-sleeved t-shirts and 2 long-sleeved. They wrapped them all in a nice dark-blue tissue paper, the way Victoria's Secrets wraps your underwear, then put them all in this very nice gift bag. The girt bag was so nice, I'd consider using it for giving a gift to someone, if it didn't say Blue Fly on it.

Anyway...the one long-sleeved shirt I got is a bold orange. I NEVER wear orange, but it was a cute shirt on sale and I figurerd that just because I never wear orange, doesn't mean I CAN'T wear it. I tried it on and it fits well, except it's a v-neck and comes too low and wide for my comfort zone.

I think a nice t-shirt camisole works perfectly underneath - but the one that I have is a pale pink. I tried it with the orange shirt and I think it looks nice. But...I've never felt strongly about my ability to match colors. I saw on Trading Spaces the other day the designer tease a boy who said purple and red don't match. She said that since you use red to make purple, they match. I figure that since you use red to make orange and also to make pink, they match.

What do you think? Will people think I'm a dork for wearing light pink under bold orange?

Hi, I don't know. I also am not an expert at matching. I shall however ask my darling neice who is very good at these things and get back to you after I get an answer.

My mom just went shopping for my almost 8 year old daughter and everything she baught was pink. And about half of the shirts also had ORANGE! I think orange and pink go great together, so I would definately give it a go!

I think it all depends on your attitude while you're wearing it. If you're confident, you'll stand out from the crowd and look fabulous! If you're tentative, like me, and feel a little uncomfortable standing out from the crowd, and if you ask everyone you see if these two shirts look funny together, you might have a little trouble pulling it off. Be bold and look upon it as an adveture and you'll be gorgeous.

You're worrying to much about what other people think....how do you feel about how you look? It sounds to me like you think it looks pretty good. I am not an adventurous dresser, by any stretch of the imagination. Recently, I had to step outside of my fashion comfort zone to attend a family celebration. I really wasn't sure about how I felt or looked in this outfit but I got many compliments, people even stopped me to tell me how nice I looked.

Go for it. It's a safe situation with virtually nothing for you to lose. People will not be scrutinizing you nearly as much as you are scrutinizing yourself.

PS - I hear orange is the "new black" for summer - LOL

Light pink with bold orange? Offhand, I'd say no. Bright orange and bright pink, maybe. But if the light pink looks like a light ORANGE under the shirt, then it would work. I think the best match would be either white, or a multicolor with some orange in.

I do like the way it looks. I think my attitude comes from having parents who owned a ladies clothing store when I was younger. Mom was a MAJOR clothes snob!

Absolutely i would wear it. I love to shop and am always trying to keep up with trends and the oranges/greens/pinks/peaches are being used together this season. It sounds adorable, in fact i'm on my way over to bluefly now ;-)

on the other hand, if you don't like it, you could always go out shopping for a different color that suits your taste;)

Donna, it's a definate go. people wear pink and orange together all the time. In fact i have seen several pink shirts with orange insets this season at Target and Dillards.

The main point though, is that if YOU think it looks good, then by all means wear it! ;-)

OK. Just heard from my fashion plate neice. Here is here email.

"Definitely! A deeper ["hot pink"] pink would look better than ligher pinks, but either way, yep! "

I agree with Jes & Cathy. I used to do the "safe" thing & wear black or neutral colors all the time. Not anymore. Not only that, if you like the way they look together, go for it.

I have a t-shirt that I love I feel so comfortable in it that is pale blue with lipstick red letters across the top. It is so cool. I just don't see those colors together too much.

I'm with your Mom: Major Clothes Snob here. I can't help it, my Dad was in the fashion industry and my excuse is that it's in my genes.

So much for my credentials. I think orange and pink can be great together for spring. If you think it looks nice, it probably does. Enjoy!

If you feel good in it- go for it! Just tone it down with some khaki or white bottoms. I was actually just looking at some Sak handbags, and there are many bright pink/ornage combos out that look pretty cool.

Another option is to tie in some more pale pink to bring it all together. You could get a pale pink handbag, belt, jewelry, etc.

And about red and purple lol- tell that to the Red Hat ladies!

I read your quote to fashion conscious 14 yo dd and she said "Oh yah! I'd definitely wear it. Colors in."

I've seen orange and pink together everywhere from shirts to skirts to beaded curtains to kids medicine (oops, maybe not the best example.)

We say go for it!

Donna,

I say go for it Girl!! What do you have to lose? Personally, I love all the red, pink, orange and fushia combinations. It'll look great this summer with a tan and maybe some white pants or skirt!!

You'll look fabulous I'm sure. Post some pics!!:)

Donna, I say go for it too. I am sure it looks nice.

Rather than ask yourself what colors look good with orange, ask yourself if you can carry that bright orange around your face. If so, when you hold it up to your face, it will make your complexion look better.

The pic I have on my picture trail with the top in Fall tones is not for me. I found out because I read a great book. What You Wear Can Change Your Life by Susannah Constantine and Trinny Woodall. They devote an excellent chapter to color and color combinations. This isn't a cheesy Color Me Beautiful Book, it's much better. They have 2 other great books and a website on bbcamerica. I found out with my light brown hair and green eyes I look best in Mid Tones, which are clear red, hot pink, dark lavender, lemon yellow, aqua, sage green, mid green, and periwinkle. I can wear other colors of course, but these suit me to a T. I used to be a black clothes queen. Ever since I got rid of the black I get tons of compliments. Especially when I wear aqua. More people tell me how wonderful that color looks on me.

Anyway, I consulted my book they say hot pink, nectarine (a pinky coral), and apple green look good with the color you have.

Also, that deep V-neck may suit you, especially if you have larger breasts. Turtlenecks and crew neck t-shirts look best of flat chested people. Scoop and V-necks look great on people with a large bosom.

Have fun wearing your cute shirt. And my apologies for blabbing so much!!

Oh, Lori, how I love Trinny and Susannah! They are SOOO talented.

I have learned so much from them. All my new shirts are v-necks and scoop necks now. All my new pants flair a bit at the bottom, and I always look for lower waisted pants.

I didn't know about their color recommendations, though. I will have to have a look at the book and find out more about it! Thanks for the tip.

Nancy, I love that book. You could study the color section for hours. :) Once you find what colors look best on you, then you can go to the color combos pages, and it really gets fun.

Do you know their rule for black? It's controversial! :) A lot of people get upset, but they say NEVER wear black with color. Which makes a lot of sense to me. I would constantly pair up black pants with a bright turquoise, red, or pink shirt. I realize now, that it is boring. They say black "cheapens" the color. Just my opinion though. It's so much interesting to pair color with color. Not a rainbow bright, Peewee's playhouse color. I find that it gives a much more pulled together look. The only put black with white, gray, and bitter chocolate brown.

Well I could go on and on about this, but you probably already know the black with color rule. :)

BTW, they have to book at Walmart for cheap.

Have a great day!
Lori
