Workout Warriors March 7-March 13

Saturday was my rest day and one of those fun late winter days. On my shopping trip I drove in freezing rain, sleet, rain, snow....

Sunday I did KPC the low and high intensity drills and abs.

Today was 30/30 and AC Stability Ball Abs.

So, after 4 weeks of no sugar, neither the scale nor the tape measure has moved a bit. Apparently, I have done an excellent job of maintaining my weight. I do think that I feel better off the sugar, so I'm continuing to ignore the chocolate/peanut butter brownies that are sitting on the counter. :p

Obviously while I ditched the sugar, I just replaced the sugar calories with something else. I don't do well at all when I try to cut calories. I always feel lousy and lack energy and that's just knocking a couple hundred or so off a day. My body knows what it wants and it always wants to maintain whatever I'm at. And given that these extra pounds have been added very gradually over the last 2-3 years it seems quite happy to want to maintain them.

So, what I've decided to do is not try and mess with my diet so much, and honestly I'm eating quite well right now given that it's still winter and cold and my body always wants heavy foods in winter, is to start wearing my weighted vest around the house whenever I'm home. It's just a tad short of 10% of my current weight and should help me burn off some extra calories throughout the day. I'm hoping to maintain the level of calories I've been eating since the extra calorie burn will be spread out through the day maybe it won't notice. ;) I might get away with wearing it during some of my cardios, but not things that involve hiit or blasts.

Then I'm not going to weigh or measure for a month and see what happens.

Hope you are all having a great start to your week!

Happy Monday Warriors!

MJ – I’m sympathetic to your over worked and burned out plight. (((hugs))) . As for STS, or any rotation for that matter, how ‘bout if you just take baby steps. Perhaps you could do one full body lifting workout this week. Then next week you could do the lifting only portions of 4DS. The STS commitment block could be broken by not attempting the full rotation, but instead maybe just do STS M2 as a split workout, i.e. back one day biceps the next. Have you tried Travel Fit? I really like it, it gives you a pretty comprehensive workout without having to plan ahead or set up weights, so that's another option. Congrats on getting to the steady state portion of C2 5k, when I read that I realized I’ve been slacking off and tightened up my run/walk ratios. lol. :D

Regina – What can you tell me about Virginia? What fun workouts did you do this weekend? Thanks for commiserating with me about my tires. You should’ve seen the wee little spare VW provides for the Toureg, made my car look so – uh, incompetant. :p

Cathy – I think my weight is at a bodily comfortable spot too. Maybe our bodies need a few extra pounds as we move into the next phase of our lives. Do you really need to lose? If you weigh slightly more than 100#'s isn’t that about right for your height? Feel free to indulge in your chocolate peanut butter brownies, I don’t want you to feel deprived or sad, and I will still send you your yoga incentive reward for playing along. :):):)

Kim – Bummer that you got stood up by your friend/hairdresser. Does she keep a calendar for chrissakes? Take a baseball bat with you next time to fend off her frisky hubby. How was the standup comedian? Who did you see? I think I’m a Cathe-droid too. I just like to follow along and do what she says and not have to think too much about what I’m lifting so long as it is challenging and I’m not injuring myself in the process. :D

As for me – Saturday I ran on the TM, warming up with a 5 min walk, running 5, walking 1, repeat for a total of 30 minutes. Sunday I did – check it out- Athletic Step, and today I did Higher Reps. Tomorrow I am running again and following it up with Pilates…then I'm going down the mtn to grocery shop. DH is coming with me, that makes it more fun, slower for certain, but more fun, plus he loads the car up and helps me put all the stuff away when we come home, triple bonus.

The move is still a pending consideration. Arrrggghhh – so frustrating for me – I do not like limbo land. In the meantime I am obsessively looking at homes for sale. My DS referred to it as my new hobby. Lol.

Waving hello to all of our MIA warriors, chime in at anytime, we miss you.:)

:D

Good Morning Warriors!

Quick check-in between meetings....

No tennis this week, so I am trying to take things a day at a time and see if I can focus on my other workouts each day. Yesterday I did the LIC step premix and tonight I will do my C25k run/walk and STS.

Thanks for all your ideas and support, I appreciate it. I will fill you in on some of them I am trying when I have time a little later tonight. Janis and Cathy it looks like you two are doing well, will catch up on particulars later.

Hello to everyone else, I know you are reading, so come back out and post. :)

CTX arrived yesterday afternoon, so I've decided to try out those cardio/ab workouts this week. I can see using this series as a one week fill-in between rotations, and for some of the cardios. I just feel like except for legs, the upper body workouts are too short to do for longer than that. When I did my one part per day rotation before STS I was working each area for 25-30 minutes not 10 and I saw great results in my upper body from that. Ten minutes just doesn't seem like enough.

MJ, looking forward to hearing more from you later! Why no tennis this week? Sounds like you are making great progress with your runs. :)

Janis, I think there is something to what you say about our bodies just wanting to add a bit of weight as we age, and if it was just a bit I would be more accepting of it. At 4'9" anything more than a couple pounds, really is very noticeable and not just in looks, but in how I feel and move. Right now my goal is to lose 13 lbs and that puts me at a weight for I feel good and can move comfortably. Where I am now, my lower body often feels like it's just not fully functionable. :( I also have the issue of my right knee and the added weight tends to increase it's issues. So, the more I weigh the more often it bothers me. My best weight is actually a few pounds lower than that, but I'd be more than happy to settle for the 13 lbs being gone. Not to mention it would be a LOT easier to find pants to wear. Right now, about 1 pair in 20 will actually fit me, so it's a real PITA to try and find any. End of saga....

I'm with you on not liking to be in limbo. I tend to be pretty decisive and don't take long to make decisions. OTOH DH can hardly make a decision to save his life and then they tend to be very long and drawn out and drive me insane! Plus if my decisions turn out to be bad, I deal with them and move on. If his turn out bad, he'll lament them for decades and drag them out occasionally to beat himself up with.

How do you like High Reps? I've only done it a couple times and I like it especially certain parts like the plate work for lower body, but it's not my favorite kind of workout.

Oh, and I'll skip the brownies. Unfortunately, once I eat something with sugar, not eating it is all over for awhile and I'd like to see how it goes after 12 weeks.

Typed all that and forgot to say that today I did All Step and the abs from that one. I like All Step. Worked up a sweat and felt like I got a good workout for the length of time. There was one part that had a bit of a learning curve, but I had it down before the final run through. When she finished off with rounds of power 15's, 7's, 3's and 3's, I was able to do it without a lot of effort which showed me that my cardio endurance is definitely better than it was a few months ago. Abs didn't do much for me. I like the newer types of ab work a lot better, so I can't see doing that one as a stand alone ab workout.

Cathy- CTX has an upper body pre-mix that includes all of the upper body exercises. I like this pre-mix. I like your idea bout wearing your weighted vest in the house. I may give that a try.

Janis- I like Virginia. I spent time in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News and Virginia Beach. I spent some time there when the Army did joint maneuvers with the Navy. This month I am doing a kettlebell rotation. Sunday - I did AOS- Smokin' Ladders, yesterday I did Bento- Kettlebell Dynamics and today I did Lauren Brook- Vol 3 - Lower Body Focus workout and Rainbeau Mars- Power Yoga. Did you find any homes that you like? I love to look at homes even though I have no intention of moving out of my present house.

MJ- it looks like you are keeping busy with your workouts. How did you decide to work out your STS rotation?

Every day I have plans to get to bed earlier but never manage to get it done. Maybe today I will.

I can tell you that you can work up a pretty good sweat while wearing the weighted vest and doing housework. :D

This morning I tried the cardio from 10/10/10 and I love it! Very fun and varied. This may well become my favorite short cardio!

I'll only be there one more time, but last night I decided the steps at the gym where the boys are having their indoor practices look really good for a cardio work out. Thursday night I may set myself up with comfortable clothes and my vest and have a go at it. Not sure how long I should do it for though. Thoughts?

So Regina did you make it up earlier today? A very long time ago, I started going to bed at the same time every night, and that totally helped me become on early riser. Long ago, I used to hit snooze multiple times during the week and sleep till 10 on the weekends.

Rainy here today and given the forecast our snow is rapidly disappearing and should all be gone again by tomorrow. This all = very wet dog.

Good Morning Warriors!

Cathy- I did not make it to bed early yesterday but I am going to make another attempt at it tonight. When the weather permits DH and I do stadium stair running. It is a good cardio workout.

One of my sons was near the P57 studio in the city and surprised me and purchased P57- vol 2 for me. I am going to add these workouts into my April rotation. He knew that I liked P57 because he purchased the vol 1 workouts. Does anyone else have P57 vol 2 or vol 1? I am really enjoying my kettlebell/ TRX month. This morning I did Turbo Fire HIIT 30. Anyone else have a TRX?

Cathy- I too like 10-10-10.

Do any of you use the Cathe workout blender?

Have a great Wed!

*crawls into thread* Hi warriors!

two more very long work days trying to get the ceo and coo/president to come to a conclusion on healthcare, round and round, arguing and rearguing points with them has left me exhausted and caused the last two days to be unplanned, yet again, rest days....grrrr. In the end i got about 90% of what I wanted to do, which despite my inability to recognize it fully now, is actually a pretty good victory for me...they both are very brilliant, decent guys, but tough to win points in discussions, especially when they both come to the same conclusion on something together....nothing like debating the bosses for your stress level lol

So now the workout gods are messing with me once again by giving me the first signs of a sore throat today....despite my insane, stressful past year, i have managed not to get sick...so now I must will it away, no time to be sick right now at all. lol

now i am going to crawl back out of the thread and into my bed for extra sleep....sorry for the self-centered post, will be back tomorrow...one way or another..:p Hope everyone is well.

*crawls back out of thread*

Cathy- CTX has an upper body pre-mix that includes all of the upper body exercises. I like this pre-mix. I like your idea bout wearing your weighted vest in the house. I may give that a try.

Cathy Regina got here b4 me. I was going to mention doing the CTX upper body through as an entity. I've often done that. Also, your idea of using the entire programme as a fill-in, I mainly do that too - I've said b4 that I do the kick-box + 10 10 10 together so you have the option of varying the intensity of the cardio by upping it to your own preference. Glad you're liking it though. I love that idea with the weighted vest, I've not got one at the moment; but note to self on that one. Any unwanted peanut butter brownies can be Fedex'd over. All donations welcome.

MJ Janis suggested about splitting the muscle groups for STS M2. Cathy + me are starting M2 next week if that helps we could all go together, or find a way for you that fits round everything else; though you do sound pretty stretched. Maybe Cathe could come up with a Stressed-Max  Hopefully the signs of your sore throat have diminished now. I thought I had a cold last week, absolutely streaming day one - then nothing day two  WTH.

Regina I had to Google P57. I've not heard of quite a lot of the things you mention, but its fun to look them up and find out. I started going to bed early when my daughter was young because she wouldn't go to bed, so I just used to go into my room and watch TV, that used to settle her down. Now I find I can't stay awake, or sometimes when it's freezing I just go to bed early for the warmth, then I find I wake up after about 4 hours and I have great swathes of time in the middle of the night when I'm wide awake

I've yet to experiment with the w/o Blender, but I do have quite a few downloads now. I caved with the big discounts last week and took advantage of spending ££ I shouldn't - I prevaricated over that for ages but in the end figured it was a saving and bulks up my collection. For the 1st time I'm going to experiment with putting them into an ipod as this is what they are designed for, rather than the discs I use currently so Blender is WIP at the moment, but I'm keen to trial it.

Janis So how did you get on with Athletic Step?? I'd like to know as it absolutely kills me, everytime. I did it also (Sat not Sun). I find all that jumping so early in the first routine zapps me, it might be better a bit further in when an old lady like me is a bit more toastie. I was annoyed this time because sometimes I need to pause for a breath b4 going onto the challenge, but this time I needed to pause b4 the challenge and then AGAIN b4 the blast. Maybe I've dropped a bit of cardio endurance due a slight reduction in my cardio the last 4 weeks because of STS. Or likely due to the few extra #s I've got. Maybe I don't need the weighted vest after all!!!! I have the reverse problem with Step Moves and have to use that as a warm up only as I barely break a sweat. Once I couldn't be bothered to wait for a new disc to load, so I just repeated it through again.

OK so STS recovery week. I did Athletic Step (puff puff pant). + Low Max, (I'm apt to get a bit twitchy with this one as it was during a very basic outer thigh extension that I wrong footed and fell off the step and went bouncing round the kitchen). + Scrambled 'Legs' from BM2 - I actually replaced my w/o dvd player to accommodate this pre-mix as for some reason my previous player wouldn't recognise it, then I realised 6+ months on, I've never actually done it. Then did GSL, but very rushed that day due to appt so had to split it over 2 days.

Also have to say I just love the STS Abs Circuits, well as much as you can 'love' abs w/o's. Cannot compliment those highly enough.

Sorry this is long - I'm off now. DD B'day tomorrow so day off and lots planned.

Bye Bye
Love
Kim xx

Today was Kick Box from CTX and that was very fun, too. Plus I had help in the form of a gray furball. :p I got to do the warm up around him, and then he went away until I got out my mat for abs and "helped" with those, too. Apparently, he felt I really needed to be cleaned up, because during planks he was very determined to clean my hands for me! He's a very sweet cat, but I really could do without his intense desire to lick my hands all the time.

Regina I'm on dial-up so no Workout Blender for me. That's so sweet of your son to pick you up a new workout. :)

MJ I really hope that you aren't coming down with anything! Sending lots of stay healthy vibes your way. Hope all the crazy madness with your job gets much better. Like Kim said we're starting M2 next week, so you can join us in what ever way works for you.

Kim have lots of fun with your daughter today! I've been there with those wide awake middle of the nights. I found after awhile that they were linked to certain days in my cycle, but now I seemed to have moved on from there and it rarely ever happens. I never had much problem with night sweats though I would get extra warm at times. That too seems to have passed and I've rather missed it over these cold winter months when I could have used a bit of extra heat! :p I LOVE Ab Circuits, too, definitely my favorite ab workouts.

Snow is on it's way out here. Some is still lingering, but we'll be above freezing again today and that should pretty much do it in, except where it's been piled up by plows.

Hello,

My name is Janis and I am an addict.

Seriously, I think a twelve-step program might be in order to address (ha!) my house hunting addiction. Then if you factor in my husband’s preferences and my son’s, I can spend days circling around and around. I’m neglecting all my normal chores and activities, plus email, phones calls and a regular bed-time. What’s crazy about my addiction is – I’ve never been to the city we are possibly moving to, and when we take a trip out there in a few weeks I’ll have to start over. Some ground work is necessary, to get a feel for where you want to live, but my approach is rather excessive, I think. But – you know – that is how I do everything. :D

Today I decided to take as a rest day, not from house hunting but from exercise. It has been a couple of weeks since I have had a rest day, and I feel like I need one. My head feels like it is stuffed with cotton and my body feels achey – I could be joining MJ in the land of cold/flu, or it could be hormonal down turns. I know I’ll feel better tomorrow having taken today off.

Cathy - CTX sounds like a lot of fun. I’m going to wear my weighted vest the next time I go on a hike with Rowan. After trying Cathe’s nutrition software for a month, [true confession here – I used it one week out of the month] per your recommendation I signed up at Spark’s People. When I use it consistently and plan my meals ahead, it works very well for me. Staying accountable is sooo boring though, needless to say I’m hit and miss with it, but I can see and feel a difference when I do make an effort to be accountable for calories in and calories out.

MJ – ((((hugs))))) and congrats on putting up the good fight for your department, 90% is a huge victory. You are a WARRIOR!

Regina – When you lived in Virginia, were you on the base or off? I’ve looked at P57 a number of times, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. I will need to create a rotation once I’m done with Meso 3 though and a series of full-body workouts is compelling. I like Cathe’s style so much, it is hard to find instructors who cue, instruct and give form pointers like she does. I have P90x and don’t mind Tony, but I don’t see myself doing the full ninety days…just not into that many pull ups! The workout blender does look fabulous! Did you buy it? I’ve found a number of houses that are within our price range and will work for us in one way or another. There are so many factors to consider like, ROI: appreciation/depreciation and transaction costs, how long the house was on the market, what will happen in the next 6months or year in the housing market (another down turn is predicted), what happens once our youngest leaves the nest, suburban vs. urban vs. beach...my head is spinning and spinning.

Kim – Happy Birthday to your daughter (and to you!) Yep, there is a lot of hopping in Athletic Step, have you done any of the HiiT workouts? They are hip-hoppity squared. I like Athletic Step and did really well considering I’ve not been doing any jumping, hopping or stepping workouts. My knees were complaining the following day, otherwise I came out of it just fine. I don’t find it too difficult. Now – Step Moves – well, that’s a whole ‘nuther matter. I can’t even do the step workouts in 4DS, just too confused by step workouts in general and uncoordinated. Do you have and have you tried Intensity? I haven’t unwrapped it yet, not sure if I’m ready for it yet, I probably should build my cardio endurance up first.

Donna - Are you out there? How did your 8k go last weekend?

Alrighty then, that's it for me. Tomorrow I plan on running and doing a full body workout of some kind.

:D

Janis I've never had much opportunity to look for houses, but I love to design them in my head. My Dad liked to build and sell houses as I was growing up, and apparently I inherited that from him. Unlike him however, drawing them on paper is not for me, I'll just stick with my imagination and if I'm ever actually in a position to do it, he can draw the plans for me. :) How soon will you know if and when you are going?

I say give Intensity a try. If you can do Athletic Step without a problem, while it's harder and you may have to take a few extra pauses, you should be able to do it. Have you been doing the Hiit workouts? You could start by just doing the hiit sections. It's the step part that's killer.

Hello All Warriors!

Cathy- I was off today and wore my weighted vest while I did house work. Thanks for that suggestion. MY DH thinks that I am nuts though.

Kim- Happy Birthday to your daughter! I tried the workout blender but decided to wait until all the bugs are fixed and the incorrect chaptering on some workouts is resolved. I did not want to spend the time and effort trying to get it to work. You did GSL and Scrambled legs form BM2 on the same day?

MJ- I hope that you next few days are stress free and you get some rest and don't come down with anything.

I am going to bed early today- that is my goal!

This morning I did the Art of Strength 'FirePower' and this evening I did Yoga Groove'.

Have a Great Friday!

This morning was CTX Step & Intervals. I enjoyed it a lot. I like that these have step moves I've never done and I really like the warm-ups. I think they are more fun than in the newer ones, where the warm-ups all seem pretty basic. I didn't think the intervals were as hard as the newer stuff, but that's not a bad thing. :p Got a good workout from it.

Last night I ran stairs for a bit. There actually aren't that many so I did lots of laps up and down. Basically I did 180 steps up/down then took a short break and did that a total of 3 times. So, 540 steps total each direction. My calves definitely took notice and are just a bit sore today.

Regina, my family looks at me like I'm nuts, too, when I wear my vest. I just ignore them. ;) Since it's still cold enough to wear a coat here, I think I'll wear it tomorrow shopping. Not sure I'm up to dealing with all the looks and questions if I don't have something over it. :D

Happy Friday Warrior!

I walked on the TM for a 5 min warm up then ran for 25 minutes, steady state, and no residual tightness, tweakedness, or soreness. Huge accomplishment! I followed that up with Travel Fit. It gets the job done, I'll say that.

Later Rowan and I went for a walk out at the vineyard. It has been a while and he really needed it.

I have been trying to follow the news about Japan's earthquake. Just horrible. 8.9 is almost apocalyptic...then to be followed by 6.6, holy crap!

Cathy - I think I may give Intensity a whirl tomorrow. Although - hmmmm - maybe I should wait a little longer and get a few HiiTs under my belt first. I wonder if I'm up to Imax2. Everything regarding a possible move is still pending...we could know by next week - then again that is what I thought last week. I am surrendering the whole thing. I've bookmarked all the houses I am interested in and saved all the pertinent details of my research. Now it is time to let go and move on - we'll see what comes from it. I almost caved in and ate some cookie yesterday - but I remained strong and vigilant. :) Not much of a scale budge for me either. I'm blaming age and hormones. Way to go on the stair climb. Great news that your calf took to it ok.

I hope everyone else is having a fabulous Friday and has great weekend plans.
:D

Warrior Down! Warrior Down!

*sniffle* Hi *sniffle* Warriors!

Yesterday the sore throat continued to attack, then last night the *sniffle* stuffy, runny nose *sniffle* started to come on strong. *sniffle* Made it through work *sniffle*, sort of anyway, I was there, dont really know if I accomplished anything of use *sniffle* and now I am home *sniffle* and about to flop on the sofa *sniffle* with a box of kleenex and a brown paper bag to collect the used kleenex *sniffle* like I used to have to do as a kid :p *sniffle* *sniffle* Cant tell if this is just super allergies hitting that the meds wont take care of because the pollen count is insane *sniffle* or a real cold *sniffle* maybe a combo of both *sniffle* either way, its not fun *sniffle* boo hoo for me! Alright, off to the sofa to *sniffle* and watch useless tv (already watched too much earthquake/tsunami coverage live in the middle of the night....its terrible what they are going through) while dozing *sniffle*

will check back later. glad you are all okay. thanks for the healing vibes, keep them coming please :) *sniffle*
