Workout Warriors March 14 - March 20

Rise and shine everyone! Sunshine here and I'm ignoring the fact that it's only 20. ;) We may actually get close to 60 by the end of the week!!!

Saturday was my rest day, but I did wear my weighted vest shopping. By the time I got home, my left shoulder was quite unhappy. Not sure why, but after a few hours of wearing it, there's a sport a few inches from my neck that starts hurting.

Sunday was Athletic Step. Then this morning it was back to Meso 2, Week 1. Chest, Shoulders and Triceps. Definitely was pushing the limits on my weights. A lot of those last reps were tough. I only had to change one though. For some reason my one arm lateral raise weight was just really unrealistic, had to drop it by 3 lbs.

MJ I hope you are feeling better!

Hi Everyone

Today was the first workout in Meso 3. I like the simplicity of slow and heavy lifting, I especially like how the DOMS creep up on you in the middle of the day, "Oh, hello DOMS, there you are." :D

Yesterday I did a 25 minute steady state run on the treadmill. Tomorrow I will run again and try to do something ab related....possibly Pilates. I worked on my after STS rotation too, which I used as an opportunity to buy a few more Cathe dvds.:eek::D I bought Supersets + Push Pull, Pyramid Upper Body and Lower Body, High Step Challenge, Low Max, and Boot Camp + Muscle Endurance. I also bought a new pair of lifting gloves. (Rowan ate the middle finger of my current pair.) My rotation plan is one week of splits, one week of full body, one week of circuits/bootcamp for a total 12-15 weeks using a new dvd each day and utilizing all of my workout dvds. I am excited by the rotation. I love STS and always have great results; I plan to do another round of STS in September.

MJ - I hope you only had to use one box and one brown bag, how are you feeling today? I hope your sweet little nose isn't rubbed raw. Ouchy.

Cathy - Hmmm...why the one shoulder? You must hike it up on one side to counter-balance the extra weight, like we used to do when we carried babies on our hips. How is it feeling today?

I hope everyone else is splendid. Please check in when you have a moment.
:)

Janis I have no idea why it bothers my one shoulder. I had it on for quite awhile today and it didn't bother it, but other times it has and I really can't see that I'm doing anything to create the problem.

New DVD's are always fun :) I like Push/Pull a lot, though I don't use it much. It's a short workout and always seems to go by so fast and doesn't seem overly tough and then I end up with DOMS the next day. I was originally going to start up STS again in July, but that would put me in the midst of it when school starts, and I really don't know what that's going to do to my workout schedule. Especially the first few weeks of getting a routine down. So, I'll do other things until then and start mid or late September again.

I'm enjoying Meso 2 more than Meso 1, because there aren't all those crazy weight changes and by the time I'm done the only equipment still out is what I needed for the last exercise.

I did Hiit 40/20 today and I do think it was my best go at it yet! Chest and shoulders definitely feeling yesterdays workout. Tri's not so much, but then it's harder to tell when they are sore.

Sunny here again today!!

Come out and play everyone! What have you all been up to?

Hello All Warriors!

The people in Japan have been in my thoughts and prayers. The extent of the disaster is mind boggling and on top of everything, they now have the real threat of a nuclear meltdown at the nuclear plant.

I had a busy weekend. Of course I forgot that the time changed on Sunday! Even though DH did not want to do anything for his birthday, family and friends took him out to dinner on Sunday. He really enjoyed himself. The food was really good and the service was wonderful.

Cathy- Is your shoulder better? DH who thought that I was nuts for wearing a weighted vest around the hourse, yesterday he was doing a famer's walk with two 50lb kettlebells and a 40 lb vest. We are doing a KB rotation together.

The three times that I have done STS, meso three was my least favorite. I think that was because Meso three was most like what I had been used to doing with my power lifitng training. Meso one with high reps was most challenging for me because I very rarely trained like that.

Workout this morning- Lauren Brook- Vol 3 KB/TRX combo training
workout yesterday- Physique 57- Vol 2- full body workout

Have a Wonderful Day!

This morning was Disk 14 Legs. I actually tried using the weight I was supposed to for the wide stance deadlifts and did it for three rounds and then attempted to do the first rep of the plie squats with 40 lbs and my lower back went zing! Fortunately it wasn't a major zing. I switched to 30 lbs and that was ok and then I started stretching my lower back during the 1 minute breaks. But, it just confirmed my belief that I simply need to stay lighter with dead lifts forever.

Regina it is so incredibly tragic what has happened in Japan, and I can't even begin to wrap my brain around how horrible it is for those there right now. :(

My shoulder is fine, it's just that for some reason after a few hours there's a spot that starts feeling the pressure and starts hurting, but it goes away when I take off the vest.

I imagine your husband was walking pretty funny, I wouldn't even be able to lift one of those kettlebells. I can actually carry 50 lbs if I get it up on my shoulder, and with a rack, I can carry more across both shoulders, but with the awkwardness of the kettlebell - that's not happening. I'd be staggering around dragging it between my legs. :p

Hi there warriors!

I have returned from the wilderness of being sick...still have a bit of stuffed nose, but I think that is more allergies. Have been MIA the last couple of days because I have been conducting a marathon of benefit open enrollment meetings at work. So 10, hour long meetings in two days that span all hours (we have 3 shifts at the company) in order to get everyone ready for the new plans and plan year. Needless to say, sleep has been lacking, been on my feet and after talking for 10 hours over two days, my voice is a little shot....but at least the meetings are done. Now just a couple long weeks of the administrative side of enrollments ha ha :p

Anyway, will catch up here and get back on track with workouts (managed to sneak in tennis monday night) tomorrow morning. For now my bed is calling eventhough its only 8pm lol guess i need some sleep.

Hope everyone is well. Catch up with you tomorrow. :)

Apparently, it was a really good thing my back made me back off by 10 lbs on those plie squats because my inner thighs are KILLING ME! and started being really sore last night. Didn't even wait till this morning. Hamstrings and glutes a bit, but inner thighs are just over the top sore. I did manage to do All Step cardio and then the abs and stretch from KPC. I usually love pigeon pose and it's my favorite stretch, but it was really hard to get in that position this morning.

Was beautiful here yesterday. Sunny and low 50's! I had all the windows cracked and was wearing sweatshirts outside. Of course, the boys were in T-shirts. Supposed to be a bit over 60 today. YAY! Now if it'll just stay that way and keep progressing.....pretending she doesn't live in Michigan where it's likely to snow at least a couple more times.

MJ did you get up and workout this morning? Glad you are feeling better!

Hello All,

Nothing special going on but today was such a beautiful day. I hope that this is a sign of things to come!

MJ- Glad that you are feeling better.

Cathy-Yes, dead lifts can be tricky for the back. When I power lift I am extra careful with them!

Workout this morning- Art of Strength - Newport
workout this evening- Lotte Berk Method- Muscle Burns Fat

My DOMS actually got worse yesterday! The first couple of times I did STS the MESO1 legs always killed me and this time they didn't bother me much, but this one got me good. Fortunately, it's a bit better this morning and today was upper body and tomorrow is my rest day.

This morning was Disk 15 Back and Biceps. I actually had to drop my weights for Preacher Curls down by 2 lbs because I couldn't even get the weights off the floor in that position! I thought it looked too high, but decided to give it and go and they wouldn't budge. And more dead lifts. I think the thing I like least about STS is that she'll do dead lifts twice in one week for both legs and back.

After the morning house cleaning, I get to figure out how to try and do labels again. I somehow managed to do them last summer and made the mistake of not writing it down. So, it's either figure out how to get them to merge or type the darn things up one at a time - all 220 + of them. Personally, I'm thinking it'll take less time to just type them up. :p Have to get them in the mail this afternoon.

Regina - I'm glad you had a beautiful day yesterday. We're supposed to be around 50 again today, but then we're sliding back down. A week from Sunday we're supposed to be playing baseball and they are saying by mid-week next week we're back into the 30's. That's not the trend I was wanting to see!!

Cathy- When I did STS, I did not do deadlifts with both legs and back. One time I did them with legs and the next time I did them with back. I subbed another leg or back exercise for the deadlifts. Creating address labels is fairly easy with Microsoft word or Excel. What program are you using? Are you playing baseball or are you going to a game? Just about every year we go to the opening day at Yankee Stadium.

It is 65 degrees here today but next week we too are going to have cold weather again!

Workout today - Spinning - using HIIT format and Rodney Yee - Power Yoga

Everyone have a great weekend!

Regina I have Word for Mac, and it's really hard to find detailed info on how to do things. Last time I found it and did it and darned if I didn't take notes and was all cocky that if I did it once I could do it again. I found some instructions on line and was able to get it set up and do a test, but couldn't get the complete merge. So, since I had to get them mailed today I said to heck with it and just typed the darn things and saved them to a folder for future use.

My boys play club baseball and the guy that runs the club was insane enough to set them up with a game on March 27. Last year we practiced outdoors in April and scrimmaged and had a tournament the last weekend in April and froze our butts off! One of the Mom's actually wore her ski pants the second day. :p

We're planning to go see the Tigers play the Giants this summer. I'm a Tiger fan and DH has been a Giants fan since he was a kid. I have no idea how that happened since he grew up in a city that borders Detroit! So, I'll be sporting my Tiger's gear and him his Giant's and we'll see how it goes.

And just for the record, while I love Curtis Granderson and he was "my" Tiger, I do not love the Yankees. :D:D:D

Yesterday was my rest day and I wore my vest shopping again. This morning I did Step Moves and B&G Stability Ball Abs. I actually just kept going back to sleep until 7:30, so I ate breakfast and didn't workout until 10:00. Not sure if it's the fact that my cardio endurance is better or having breakfast and a quart of water first, but I really did great. Granted the cardio in that one isn't terribly difficult from as far as cardios go, but still I rocked it really good. :D

Hello Warriors and Good-bye another week.

Regina I love some of the W/Os that you mention and I've never heard of. Sometimes I go lookylook at some of the things that sound interesting. I just saw a little bit of Yoga Groove on YouTube. That's looks pretty cool. I'm feeling I should be doing more yoga. I really got going with that 2-3 years ago but as I was fitting in it most every day I wasn't managing any cardio round about then, so now I'm top heavy on the cardio and I must admit to neglecting quite a lot of my STS stretching - although when I've done it, it's great.

Form pointer anyone?? Cathy mentioned pigeon pose and I've been meaning to bring this up for ages. I never know where my bent leg in the forward position should be?? Should it be more central between the boobs, or slightly more towards the shoulder (ie same knee same shoulder - not across the body). Its much more comfortable for me to be central and that gets right into the adductor - but if it's slightly to the side it also gets the hip flexor of the straight leg. And I think people in the videos seem to be more to the side than is comfy for me. I never do well with this posture as I never stop fidgetting about trying to get into the right position.

Cathy Step Moves came round on my rotation this morning and having said last week that this is the W/O that is least challenging for me I ripped off your plan and as I don't have a vest :( :( :( I wore wrist weights and although they are only light compared to my ankle weights I got a much better W/O out of it. I've been on the verge of raising the step time and again for that one, but I'm just so shy of a tumble and/or injury it's just not worth the risk.

Janis Your plan of a rotation using all new W/Os sounds like fun. Not sure if that would suit me, I like to have a bit of familiarity with complex stepping otherwise I'm gorping at Cathe throughout - although I realise that what you were talking about was predominantly lifting.

I said that I caved and bought a bunch of downloads to take advantage of the discounts a couple of weeks back. I've still not seen those yet. The reason I can't put them on an i-pod is because I don't have one. DD has a redundant i-phone which has a smashed screen as it is a casualty of calamitous DD - and I was planning to use that but I need the knowledge of DD to utilize this. Sounds straightforward eh?? You'd think. Maybe need to harvest expertise from a little further afield. Was determined not to get these transferred onto discs, but that's looking distinctly likely.

This week I'm very happy to be back in STSville. Me likey it here and will be planning lots of future visits. (I'll be along with you in September Janis). Also did the cardio from C&W one day as a warm up on my STS day and Imax 2 on a cardio day. I think my cardio capacity is suffering while I'm in the STS programme. I don't mind that as I can easily switch it up a gear in a few weeks, but I've always found Imax 2 extremely simple. A quick in and out, but it was surprisingly challenging this week.

I am very sad about the World (Japan) and apparently we went into Lybia last night - I can't even bear to turn the news on to find out details about that, but procrastinating is futile. Also I had a very sad e-mail from Mary at the beginning of the week. She has no good news and it troubled me to read her sadness. Sorry to bring this all along on here, but that's why I've not posted earlier in the week. Felt very negative and couldn't bring myself 'UP'.

Love and light peoples

Kim,

I had to acquire a taste for Yoga. At first, I only forced myself to do it because it was good for my body. Now I actually enjoy it and my flexibility and posture has really improved. I am by no means a Yoga expert but rather I still consider myself a novice so I do not want to give you any advice about proper positioning for poses. I would probably be wrong anyway.

Here is the Link for Yoga Groove. I love this workout. The workout and the music are great. I only wish that the dance sections were longer. I wish that I was as talented and flexible as they are!

Kim- You do not need an IPod to use your downloads, although I do have an IPod. I burned most of my downloads to DVD so that I can use them sans computer and take them with me or use them in my workout room.

Cathy- I am not a Yankee fan either. It is just tradition for a group of us to go to Yankee Stadium on opening day. I am a Mets fan! Actually I am a Brooklyn Dodger fan (smile)!
