WORKOUT Saturday 07/17

Dutchie42

Ran a little over 15K with Rover. Did the following schedule: 4-8-12min of running with 1min walkbreaks/drink breaks. Plus a number of extra breaks on account of fetching Rover, or letting him drink, etc. TEmperature has suddenly jumped up to 24C. And it really got to me.

Well, according to my HRM I used up 911cals. Do I need to load up on carbs now? I'm a little confused about what I should eat before and after running long distances.

I'm almost at race distance (16.5K). Yeah.

15K!...good for you Dutchie. I think Rover is a very good running partner for you! I wouldn't load up on carbs myself, but generally over an hour of any kind of cardio I think it's good to use a sports drink.. (mainly carbs), like Gatorade, Accelerade, its a personal preference. When I do a long run I just usually sip an ounce or 2 every 15 minutes. Something else I started doing a few years ago also was after my long runs, within 30 minutes of finishing I would eat some kind of protein for muscle recovery. Now being vegetarian I use the protein powder after every workout. Have you checked out this site www.runnersworld.com as they have alot of good info there....I am doing Yoga today and maybe some shoulder, bicep, and tricep work too.....have a great day...:)...Carole

Thanks Carole. You're so good with helping me figure this running thing out:) Noone I know runs, or works out for that matter. Not quite true, some (male) colleagues of mine run.

People (read: females) are always telling me I shouldn't workout so much, or getting me cookies or something. Somehow I always feel like they are trying to sabotage my efforts. And now that I'm trying to get back to near my pre-accident weight (approx. 117 pounds at 5.5") they tell me I should eat more. And they don't believe me when I tell them I eat like 6-7 times a day! Some even dare tell me I shouldn't eat so much fruit but should add some gravy on my dinner. Can you believe that?

Sorry, I'm ranting.

Dutchie:)

You are welcome Dutchie and I am sure Mari will have some great suggestions also. I am so lucky as my sister runs and I have alot of running friends.

I understand your ranting!! As I knew I needed to loose weight I would not even mention it at work as they would say "You don't need to loose weight" and like I have said in the past, it really isn't anyones business but mine!! And when I tell them I am eating a vegetarian diet....OMG!!! So, I don't even go there.... :D . Dutchie, you just keep doing what works for you and I wish you luck on getting to your goal weight...:)...Carole

Hi everyone,

I did Reebok's Power Blast tape this morning with abs only from PS Back, Biceps and abs and Power Hour.:7 I was back below goal this morning so I was happy. 2 days worth of almost hour long cardio plus my usual weights did the trick.:D

Hope all of you have a great day!!:D

Hello ladies

Just jumped in to say good bye for a while -- I'll be on vacation!

Dutchie, people are funny. Don't worry about the remarks.
About he food -- for me it is not so imporant what I eat right before the run, but the day before. If I eat too little the day before the long run I'm defintely too pooped. For me good before run meals are some fruiit and yogurt, or just a Clif bar -- if you have it there -- so about 200-300 calories, mainly in the form of carbs. Good after run meals for me are smoothies -- fruits and protein,

I did some cardio for 20 min plus ME abs and P90X Sh-Bi-Tri yesterday, today there is no time for anything. Probably I won't do too much for 10 days, but I'll be water skiiing, hiking and kayaking!!!

See you guys in 10 days!

Mari

Mari, waterskiing, kayaking and hiking sound fun!...We'll miss you, and I hope you have a great time!!!!....:)...Carole
