Working the abs

Just curious .... when is the best way to work abs? Most of the workout videos I do works abs before the stretch. Can it be worked in any order during the workout (before cardio, before weights)? Thanks for all your feedbacks.

I think all of my videos work abs as part of the lower body workout after the legs. I can't think of any of my videos that work them before the stretch. I don't think it matters when you do them. For example, if you chose to just work abs as your body part, you would obviously do them after you warm up.

Some Firm videos work them through out the workout.

In My humble opinion, I don't think it matters when, as long as you work them! I think it is more important to constantly change your order and ab exercises, as this muscle has an amazing memory.

I think most videos do abs before the stretch so that the ab muscles can also benefit from the stretch. Also, abs and lower back (core) are usually worked last in a routine because their strength is needed for stabilizing throughout the workout.

Certain trainers recommend working the lower ab area (the weakest area) first, followed by the obliques, then by the upper ab area.

shaking up the abs

Hey Nette! The abs are a funny area--they get use to our workouts real quick--so in order to keep them looking good we must switch up our routine! Their are plenty of ways to do this! It's all about sequence! Switch up abs every 3 to 4 weeks--by either starting at the beginning of a workout,in the middle or at the end--also by working lower, obliques then upper( in that order to confuse the area!)--- then change the sequence however you may like---also do standing ab work----weighted ab work---planks,side planks---these are all different ideas to you to pick from and make a routine out of so that your abs are worked differently at least every month! Forgot to mention jumping rope is great for abs--just arm up the calves----There is no one good time to do abs! When you do them at a specific time of your workout for 3 weeks---then move on to another formula---remember too that the best abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym!Hope this was helpful!
