Working out 2 hours a day made me too hungry!

I want to share my personal experience, I have been doing P90X and sometimes I would workout for two hours at a time in my efforts to add more cardio (I work and don't the time to work out in the evernings). Throughout the day and night, I would get extremely hungry to the point that if I didn't eat I would get a headache and was in a bad mood. Sometimes, I could not sleep because I was too hungry, so I would get up to eat so that I could get some sleep. The overtraining was causing me to overeat and I end up gaining six pounds while working out extra hard. My goal was to be lose fat not gain more, but that is what happened.

Now, I took a different approach, working out less, 60 to 75 minutes, drinking as much water as I can, and I am still eating 5/6 small meals all including protein, BTW I was doing all that and still gain weight, but I lose five pounds in two weeks. What has changed is that I am not lightheaded due to hunger, so I eat less, I am sleeping well, and I am in a good mood most of the time.

This morning I did Imax 3 and Abs that is about 75 minutes, that is as much as I will do now.

Hi Logos,

Congrats on finding the righ amount of time for your body.

Sometimes if you do an early morning workout before breakfast for 2 hours, this can have alot of the same affects that you described, you burned up all those carbs as your brain was constantly sending signals to arms and legs. You brain runs on carbs, as well as the fat burning process when you first start doing activity. So it's pretty easy to empty out that storage and make yourself starving as well, as you dig a hole, and now need to fill it back in with food. But with this you can play around with it and find you're max. Say 100 minutes and you can get away with eating normal for the day where as 120 minutes will wipe out you whole supply and make you want to eat all day long.

I workout any where from 2 to 3 hours during a given day. Not always high intensity. And that's one thing people don't realize, if you do high intensity and actually hit your anerobic threshold during the workout for most of the workout, and a lot of people can do this if they've been working with high intensity workouts for a while. You're buring calories in your tummy, not fat around your tummy. Which is a bad thing. As if you hit your AT you actually are doing so high that you have very very little calories from fat, or even no calories from fat. I've been working with one of the new machines that finally got the okay to be put into a fitness club, and this thing can actually tell you if you've reach that level or not, and what percentage of fat your burrning at your current intensity level. And for the most part, we've had awesome results. But even with me, I pushed my intensity up to my max just to see what it would do and say. And the reading came back I was in my AT and I wasn't burning any fat. And I went home and wanted to eat my whole house. Which is the sign of hitting that level, something I knew well before be there had never been a test were we could show clients, hey you working here, and your not burning fat at that level.

So I competely understand about the hungry and you can easily put on weight from it, as your brain doesn't seem to know when to stop requesting food when you do that. Or at least not for me, all I get is more more more, no matter what I give it, when I push myself too much.

But congrats on figureing it out and making it work for you, that is what counts the most.

Thanks these posts are useful. Now I am doing the doubles P90X and when I have changed the cardio P90x with a Cathe's cardio I was very hungry too. That's the reason why sometimes I have substituted the cardio P90X with christi taylor hi/low (less intense)or 60 minutes in my stationary bike.Anyway I have discovered the most important thing to see results and lose weight is the clean eating. You can do a Cathe's rotation but if you don't eat clean (as I did before)you don't lose fat.Now I spend less hours working out and I am seeing better results because I am taking care of what I eat.

Hi Mariangeles,

I will start week 13 of P90X on Monday, I have notice more muscle in my chest, shoulders and arms. I am also more tone in the middle. I am planing a lean out phase which will cosist of more cardio and cicuit workouts like HSTA and of cource I will continue to eat clean I am following some of principles from Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. I let you know how it goes. Now that I have the muscle, I will focus on keeping it and lose fat. P90X is a good program for building upper body strenght.

It is very important not just to "eat clean" but enough and quality food -- especially when you exercise more than 1 hr a day. If you try to cut calories while working out hours for longer period of time it will backfire. You can still maintain a negative daily calorie balance ( lose fat) and fuel the hard workouts at the same time. Mari
