work out when sick?

I've got a cold and though I'm better than yesterday (when I KNOW I couldn't have managed a workout), I'm just a little achy and have the sniffles and a bit of a headache today. I'm thinking that I should go ahead and get a nice workout in. You don't think that I'll hold myself back from recovering from my cold if I work out do you? I know I remember people who would say that you needed to rest to let your body get better...but I feel like I should workout. When do you give yourself a sick day?

I give myself a rest day when I'm achy all over or my breathing is impaired.

Case in point: I was diagnosed yesterday with bronchitis and the doctor told me to lay off the workouts until my lungs healed a bit. She said they're working too hard already, no sense in stressing them even more.

I take a rest day when I am achy, dizzy from sinus and overall exhausted. I asked the same question a few weeks ago on this board and listened to the advice to REST! It paid off. I took about 5 days of rest and was able to hit the ground much healthier and kick my workouts harder than if I would have kept pushing myself. Plus I still lost 5 lbs that week b/c I wasn't hungry and when I did eat I was still doing BFL style eating. It gave my muscles a chance to rest and felt great!

I am out of commission today and HATING it! I never miss a workout! I just know I'd feel worse tomorrow if I don't rest. I may do something half assed later...just to do something!

It depends on how I feel. If I'm feeling weak, I don't workout. If I have a cough I don't do cardio because it hurts my lungs. But if I can breathe, I'll exercise. (I mean, if my nose isn't stuffy.)

I woulddn't work out if I felt like you do. I wouldn't have the energy to give it my all. Is it really so terrible to take today as a rest day or do some gentle yoga or stretching?

Respect your body and curl up on the couch with a good movie or book instead. You'll feel much better tomorrow for doing so!

No I would'nt work out either. When I am sick I NEVER workout.

Take care and hope you are feeling better soon!! :)

I hate when I get sick. I missed 2 weeks of working out with some nasty bug. It wasn't quite the flu, but it was worse than a cold and I ended up on antibotics. I hate missing workouts. I tried working out after a week and got 15 minutes into L&G and I couldn't go anymore. I would rest because you may not have your full energy and your form may suffer. JMO!
